Summary: Too confusing to make sense
Review: Well, I read this book, and the writing style really got to me. Ellen is pretty much just a bigoted kid who won't even lie on the bed of her African-American friend. I have no clue why Oprah chose it to her book club, it's downright impossible to read unless you are in second grade and you are not familiar with quotations. I will be forgetting this one in a while...

Summary: Pretty good!
Review: I was disappointed after reading this. After all the hullabaloo about it on Oprah's show I was expecting some mini mastepiece. Unfortunately it is not that. It's still pretty good though, just not as good as A Virtuous Woman or as good as they say.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A MUST READ FOR ALL!
Review: This was a truly wonderous book. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to find out the depth and character of "Ellen Foster". A very interesting, strong person, this book flows beautifully. I was overjoyed to see that Oprah put it in her club! If you want a book.. read this one!

Summary: I love "new mama"!
Review: What a wonderful modern novel about life from the view of a girl we all wish we could spare from the life she leads! This book melts in your mouth with its rich language. By the time Ellen becomes a part of the "Foster" family, I am so grateful to NEW MAMA I want to embrace her. Are there people like her out there? I so hope so...

Summary: Ellen Foster was one very well written book!
Review: Ellen Foster is a book I read as a freshman in high school. My teachers often ask my opinion of the book, and I always tell them positive words. After they ask if I have read J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye. I have read that book too. These two books are equally as well-written as the other. Good Job Kaye Gibbons!

Summary: Ellen made me laugh.
Review: Although this is a story about difficulties, Ellen's take on things made me laught out loud sometimes. It's amazing how resilent we can be in the face of life's challenges. I thought this was a good read.

Summary: A inspiring novel about a little girl.
Review: Ellen Foster is a small achivement but a achivement just the same. I'm not one who like dramatic books very much but this was an exception . I liked it but did not love it, in the long run it was on the good side of mediocre.

Summary: Ellen Foster, I believe is one of my best works.
Review: Ellen Foster, an 11 year old was made to live in our hearts forever. She went through a lot of things as a child. She did not take pity on herself and put things together. She should become one of the greatest girls of all time.

Review: Great novel. Not only were the characters interesting but it left me wanting more! So, I went out and bought A Virtuous Woman also by Kaye Gibbons and would recommend that novel as well.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Interesting character, but difficult to read
Review: Character of Ellen was very well-developed. Writing style very confusing, however. Readers interested in mental health-related issues will enjoy it for the complexities of the personalities involved. I will read other Gibbons books but will be very selective when recommending this book to friends.
