Rating: Summary: Content thats ALL Review: I thought the book was of a quility that only Wilbur A Smith can write MOST EXCELENT DUDE and that it had great content and action, to that other writers coments that it was the worst book he ever wrote, dont be dumb! It was a brilliant peice of work done by the worlds best writer, READ THIS BOOK you will love every word of it, personaly i would give it a 10/10 but youl have to read it, im sure you will love it.
Rating: Summary: Awesome book Review: This book starts off with a bang(literally) and just gets better from there. The pace is relentless and the sheer storytelling is wonderful. I didn't want the story to end. The ending is anti-climatic but not dull.
Rating: Summary: Terribly predicable. His worst book yet! Review: Having just read "River God" and being a great fan of Mr. Smith's other books, I eagerly read this book. I am afraid that this has to be one of his worst books ever. It takes about 10 pages (am I being harsh? I think not!) to figure out the plot. From then on, it is just a matter of plowing your way through the it! Some books are worth reading as a form of escapism, but this "novel" just doesn't cut it!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read. Review: When I finish reading a book, I give it a rating from 1-10. The Seventh Scroll received a 10+..... I just could not put it down! It was as though I was watching a fast action thriller on the big screen. The only fault I found was the sexual perversion of one of the characters. If you can overlook this flaw, it is a must read for anyone with an interest in Egyptian history. Unknowingly, I read The Seventh Scroll BEFORE I read The River God. As it turned out, I was glad I'd done it that way, and I would recommend to anyone who has not read these two books to read them in reverse order.
Rating: Summary: Good story, but weak in a couple of spots Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the story, but I was a bit disappointed in the heavy-handedness of the references to Wilbur Smith by the characters. Also, I found that much of the dialogue seemed forced and "scripted" - not enough contractions or believable statements in parts. That having been said, I still could not put it down - the story is great!
Rating: Summary: A story truly deserving of the term "epic" Review: The characters are strong, the locations are exquisite, and the plot is thoroughly entertaining. Wilbur Smith knows exactly when to speed it up to enthrall the reader and slow it down to allow the reader to catch their breath and appreciate the power of the story. What puts this book over the top is that it makes the reader feel as though they are right there in the middle of the story as it is unfolding. It's got a little bit of everything which satiates a wide variety of readers. The relationship between Royan and Nicholas is a realistic budding of love.It is an epic adventure filled with danger, suspense, and powerful drama as Nicholas and Royan find an enemy at every turn. The description of the settings by Smith is terrific. This book is an excellent read for anyone. Easily the best book I've ever read.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not that good Review: I thought the seventh scroll was a fair attempt to recapture the air of River God. It failed. The start was too slow and I felt that the start of the plot was too convenient, especially when the van tried to kill the heroine. The trip into the gorge was a long ascent of hindsight timewasting and Quentin Harper could not replace Tanus. The love interest was also a bit weak, although carefully constructed it did not make me glad they got together. I felt some jubilation when they finally reached St. Francis's tomb. All in all from the Nile to the waterfall, give this book a read, but lower your expectations. Dave:(
Rating: Summary: "Seventh Scroll" an excellent read! Review: Smith is a great story teller: adventures a la Indiana Jones. Hard to put the book down. His description of Ethiopia makes you feel like you can actually see the landscape. You also get a large dose of Egyptian history in the bargain. I've read several of Wilbur Smith's novels, and I think this one is far and away the best!
Rating: Summary: Indiana Jones and Mr. Smith's Wild Ride! Review: Forget Doomed Temples and crusty Crusaders, this story growls like an English bulldog and chases you through 600+ pages of adventure sleuthing replete with unscrupulous baddies and just enough romance to keep you turning the pages. Smith dances across Eqypt and Ethiopia, chasing clues left 4,000 years ago by Taita, leading to a lost Egyptian tomb. Read it today!
Rating: Summary: Excellent -- second only to River God Review: After reading the "River God" I was excited about this sequel. I was not disappointed. It was as riveting as it's predecessor and was equally as difficult to put down. You knew Taita was there at every turn -- trying to prevent the discovery of his master's last resting place. I will be a Wilbur Smith fan from the day forward!
