Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: No-brainer, but fun to read Review: This had to be one of the most overrated books I have ever read! For people to say it is "an epic tale of true literary excellence" is trash!! The book was so predictable I found myself actually skimming throught the pages! It is a very fun book, full of cheesy predictable stunts found in every other cheesy adventure novel, but it is a great read to clear your mind. I would never ever say it had worthy talent though, and I can't believe the other ratings on this book. There is so much more out there...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Wilbur Smith's technical research on 7th Scroll Review: A wonderful ripping yarn as usual. However, Mr. Smith shows that he is no diver; when descending in free-diving, as in Scuba, it is necessary to equalise the pressure in your ears (hold your nostrils and breathe into your nose) otherwise descent much below about twelve feet will become too painful to continue. With rebreathers you most certainly can descend way, way below 33feet (one atmosphere), but you have to plan your dive carefully in advance and fill the bottle with the correct gas mixture for the depth and anticipated duration of the dive so that you do not breathe oxygen at toxic levels. The main advantage is that you can stay down for longer without worrying about decompression. Cool stuff, rebreather diving. Just takes the edge off the story a little (very little). Kindest regards to Mr. Smith and family.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An edge of your seat thrilling adventure. Review: A reader from upstate New York, USA , March 17, 1999 An edge of your seat thrilling adventure Ancient Egypt was a time of great pharaohs, slaves, and numerous treasures, including a four thousand year old treasure lost in a tomb waiting to be found. In his thrilling and adventurous novel, The Seventh Scroll, Wilbur Smith writes about the adventures of two Egyptologists following the writings of an Egyptian slave by taking you through the wild forests and rivers of Ethiopia and into the tombs of the ancient pharaohs. Dr. Royan Al Simmia, a beautiful young, and energetic Egyptologist and her partner, Sir Nicholas Quenton-Harper, find themselves embarked on a wild adventure. They followed the writings of and ancient Egyptian slave, Taita in there search for the lost tomb of the Egyptian Pharaoh, Mamose. Mamose's treasure has a promise of life long wealth to anyone who could find it. The treasure is so grand it could drive someone to murder to be the first one to discover it. "My name is Taita. I am a physcian and a poet. I am an architect and a philosopher. I am your friend. I will answer you." Smith uses his character Taita from his much acclaimed novel River God, as the base of this novel. Taita was a mathmatical and scientific genius for his time. He could calculate and design angles as perfectly as we do today. He was also a master riddler and game player. "All of these numbers and extraneous symbols- they spell no choherent words. They do not relate to each other ina any way, except that no number in the list is greater than eight." Said Royan. "Oh, Lordy, Lordy!" Nicholas exclaimed as his face cleared. "You clever lady! Taita is playing the game of bao with us!" As the designer and master in charge of building and hiding the Pharaoh Mamose's tomb, Taita wanted to make sure no one would get to it or its vast treasure. This tomb had special meaning to him. He designed highly effective booby traps and winding mazes to keep people out of the tomb. His hierglyphics were unlike any other. They were beautiful, further proving the ingenious mind of Taita, the Egyptian slave who lived four thousand years ago. Smith's novel is an edge of your seat, page turning, and thrilling adventure. It includes twisting plots, exciting descriptions of ancient tombs, a variety of dangerous settings, and all the emotions of human nature from love to jealousy. I often found myself wanting to tell the characters what was lurking behind them or send them encouraging words through their travels. Wilbur Smith has again written an adventure that will keep you enthralled from beginning to end. --This text refers to the mass market paperback edition of this title

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good Stuff Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this romp through parts of Africa rarely touched by authors. It certainly was predictable but what isn't? And there was a nice twist towards the end. When I saw how long it was I was a bit wary but thee pages flowed past and there is very little "padding". The only downside is that if you were sick of "wonder boy" Taita being an expert in all fields known to man in River God this theme is heartily continued. Read it!!!!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This is one of the best books that I have ever read. Review: Wilber Smith creates fasinating characters in the book The Seventh Scroll. With vivid detail, Smith engages the reader into the world of the wealthy and brainy, yet brings them into the world of the Nile. The book reminded me of a Hardy Boy's novel for the big kid in all of us. The entire book is filled with action and passion, while all of the problems that the characters encounter are solved by the use of intellect. This is a true page turner!
