Rating: Summary: this book spits the truth in the face of the nation Review: Having watched the film, lots of time, i felt that i should read the book and see which was better, having done that i can say that it is a tie! While the film follows the life of the main character Mark Renton, the book gives a brilliant insight into what the friends really feel about each other and can provide a lot of humour in the writing. Another the thing the book has over the film is the overwhelming feel of scotishness which at time's in the film, fails to come across through the lack of decent a Scottish lead actor. If you can manage to get through the first couple of page's, where you will for sure find out how scotish this book is, then you will find Trainspotting a brilliant read. if you dont agree with what i said e-mail me and tell me how yoou feel.
Rating: Summary: Great book...if you can handle it. Review: I really enjoyed Welsh's book, Trainspotting. Unfortunately, I saw the movie first, which I thought was great...until I read the book. The book shows a much more painful side of drug addiction, which couldn't be captured on film. The language! I loved the use of dialogue in the book. I loved the way Welsh presented the story in the method that is generally used in oral story telling. Each character had a story to tell, and they told it in their own dialect. This caused me to be a bit lost in the story line in some places. The many different characters and experiences caused some confusion for me in the storyline, and this made me want to quit the book more than once. This is the reason why I didn't give the highest rating. I would definitely recommend this book to a person who may have a problem with drugs or have an interest in the drug lifestyle. This book will not offer a solution to the problems of drugs, but will definitely make a person think about the emptiness and pain of a drug habbit. Unlike many of the books on the market that explore the problems of young adults, Trainspotting does not romanticize the culture; it makes you feel for the people who get caught in this lifestyle. Welsh makes you realize your inablility to reach these people.
Rating: Summary: A serious crack in the teeth! Review: This intense novel really hits hard and exposes us to the fact that it's so important to maximize the one life that we have. Mr. Welsh really wants us to know that we must choose responsibility, work, the right friends, growing up, and not to let life pass us by or we will be forever "trainspotting".
Rating: Summary: A classic! Review: Welsh is the rave- generation`s spokesman. The best thing that have happend for worldwide fiction for decades! Read it imididiately.
Rating: Summary: awful Review: This is one of the worst books I¡¦ve ever read. I could hardly wait to finish it. I thought the beginning especially had the hallmarks of ineptitude. I certainly wouldn¡¦t look forward to reading any of the author¡¦s other works. I have no regrets about giving this 1 star.
Rating: Summary: Absoutely Disturbing, Insane, and Wonderful Review: Trainspotting is the most naughty, disturbing, and most riviting book I have ever read. From cover to cover, my emotions were on a roller coaster. I wish I had seen the movie after I read the book. If anyone reading this has seen the movie, but not read the book, I insist you read it at once. You will totally be blown away.
Rating: Summary: worth reading, just! Review: Whilst Welsh's novel has achieved cult status, it is unfortunate that this would not have happened without Boyle's vastly superior film. The book is in the majority entertaining, but the author is obsessed in the self-rightousness of his own part of society and does nothing to challenge the reasons or solutions of their problems. It is easy to get on the high-horsed band wagon about this book, but the praise is richly undeserved.
