Rating: Summary: YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN Review: This book was real. It was heartwarming and believable. I cried, I laughed, I wished, I anticipated, I saw myself there. It hits home. I'm moving out of state this month and I was hoping my cousin would send a guy like Eddie to pick me up from the airport. :-)
Rating: Summary: Helps readers gain an appreciation for living Review: I read this book in one sitting. It makes you want to live and love and breathe and dance and learn. But most importantly it gives you an appreciation of your own life and teaches the importance of taking chances--allowing yourself to love and be loved. And on another level, Ava's process of learning how to live with AIDS rather than concentrate on dying from AIDS is a lesson to all of us--healthy or not. Live life every day because tomorrow is not a promise.
Rating: Summary: well written and vividly expressed! Review: I could not put the book down. The development of Eddie and Ava played to all my senses. I could imagine every scene, conversation ,and emotion. This is how a book should capture its reader.
Rating: Summary: VERY REALISTIC, A MUST READ............ Review: This short novel was by far one of he best books I have ever read! It shows us,the reader, the reality of today's youth and the hardships that they face.I highly recommend this book to everyone !!!!
Rating: Summary: Great book. Focus on living with HIV not on dying Review: I enjoyed reading What Looks Like Crazy. Was at first intrigued by the title. Plot of the book reflects the title. What was especially refreshing was the portrayal of a positive strong black male character. He became very special to me when contrasted with the other black male characters who were your standard stereotyped druggies and rapists. The author has written an excellent novel with its celebration of life and living.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've read Review: Pearl Cleage did a more than well job with her first novel, What Looks Like Crazy On An Ordinary Day; and I cannot wait to read her next book. Ava Johnson, the main character of this book, is so REAL. She's a wonderfully courageous woman who takes life one day at a time, despite her fears, and looks at life with a lot of humor and honesty. Her sister, Joyce, is a real gem, as she is warm, caring, and intelligent. Eddie, whom becomes an important part of both of these women's lives, has real soul to him. He's lived a hard, sometimes shady life, and came out of it as a better man.Ava, dealing with a change of life and a deadly disease such as AIDS, has her real fears of ever finding someone to love, ever having a career again, and how strong will she be once she gets really sick. She deals with these issues in a courageous and positive way, even when she sometimes stumbles . . . she still manages to find her way. A story of triumph and victory, of loving and being loved, of facing your fears and trying to move through them anyway . . . this is one book that is difficult to put down. As I've said, I can't wait for Pearl Cleage's next one.
Rating: Summary: this story is so wonderful! an easy read. Review: this story is so wonderful! an easy read. i was captivated by the characters. i can't wait for pearl cleage to write another novel.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing Review: I felt the character development was shallow and the real issues were breezed over. The sewing circus solutions seemed unrealistic and like they weren't dealing with the real issues at hand. I felt like I was reading someone's political views on teen pregnancy, abuse and HIV.....but that they weren't really "dealt" with in the novel to the extent I thought they could have been. My only favorite part was Ada's developing love story with Eddie...which was the ONLY reason I finished the book.
Rating: Summary: A well put-together, inspirational story. Review: The story was definitely written with great skill and purpose. It is very inspirational and heart-warming. This is an excellent choice for people who are not very motivated by life and face, what may seem to be, insurmountable challenges, from depression to medical obstacles. "What Looks Like Crazy On An Ordinary Day" is well worth THE BUY. Read it!!!
Rating: Summary: This is a MUST READ for every young woman age 23 and over. Review: My daughter, age 26, and I, age 55, have very different taste when it comes to books, but this one we were in total agreement on. It is an excellent, "real life" story that leaves you with the knowledge that you can be truly happy no matter where you are in life. If you haven't already read it....do so NOW.
