Rating: Summary: A good read, read in one sitting! Review: I really enjoyed this and enjoyed the writing style. It was a good read in my view and I would recommend.
Rating: Summary: Boring and predictable, but down to Earth Review: The story was indeed a page-turner because it was so realistically funny. The author did a good job of imagery of the main character, narrating the whole story in a sarcastic tone. However, the story line was predictable, and middle seemed to drag on a bit too long. A book is never perfect... go ahead and try it!
Rating: Summary: A Good Read Review: This was a really good read. A truely joyful book. A lovely story of sisterly love and more. Loved the characters. The only problem? It was too short.
Rating: Summary: Realistic but also a dreamy get-away Review: This was a fast read that I hoped wouldn't end. I want some more of Ava and Eddie. And, hey, where are the Eddies of the world. What an awesome guy. Too good to believe, but I still hold out hope. The author is straight up and believable. This book is entertaining and also brings up some current event issues that we all need to acknowledge and address. Can't wait for her next book.
Rating: Summary: Good Story Review: I could relate to this book on many levels. I could find similarities with my own sister to sister relationship where one is the stronger personality. I thought it was well written and made you feel for the characters.
Rating: Summary: The vote from our book club was unanimous - we loved it! Review: From the first chapter we were hooked. Traveling with Ava from Atlanta to Michigan and through the trials and tribulations Idlewild sent us on our own journey of identification and self-discovery. It is a great book for all levels of readers.
Rating: Summary: Best book read this year!! Great reading & informational Review: I was inspired by this novel to read and research additional information on the subject of HIV - it was written with, what I feel, sensitivity, humor and education needed to address such a touchy topic so anyone can relate to all the characters. I could feel the anger and ugly characteristics of the ignorant (ones who felt they could throw stones and stifle a project that should be encouraged in all of our major city communities). I finished reading this book with positve feelings on how a community can make it happen, and I felt I would love to live in such a community. I just hope this author doesn't stop with this first. It could be and it definitely is a blockbuster of movie material if someone could take the time and produce a piece with as much sensitivity and realissm and refreshingly as it should be treated as Cleage wrote the book. Rating: Summary: Wonderful!! Review: This book was one of my all time favourites. I have been dissappointed with some of Oprah's selections but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was everything a book should be: educational, funny, suspenseful, thought provoking, etc... I would recommend this book to anybody.
Rating: Summary: TERRIFIC!! Review: This book was incredible...Totally captivating. I loved every minute of it, and the last line was a classic.
Rating: Summary: The characters still live with me Review: I still can't get this book out of my mind and I read it over a year ago. I feel like the characters are friends I haven't seen in awhile but care about very deeply. I have quotes from her lovely book all around my home where I can read them often. It doesn't get much better than this: "And we sang too loud and we danced too long and hugged too hard and kissed too sweet, and we howled just as loud as we wanted to howl, because by now we were old enough to know that what looks like crazy on an ordinary day looks a lot like love if you catch it in the moonlight." Perfect!
