Review: THis book was GREAT! I loved the charecters they all were real. Not made up (To perfect or to evil). They all had their own demons and were living their lives. I can not wait for her next book.

Summary: Definitely one of the best books I've ever read
Review: This book was simply excellent. Pearl Cleage is an excellent writer who knows how to take hold of a reader's attention, and involve them in the story so much so to make them feel apart of the lives of the characters. You can not help but to fall in love w/ this book and the characters in it. It was just wonderful and I recommend that if you are contemplating reading this and you happen upon this comment - I advise you to order right away. You won't regret it.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I loved this book, I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my entire life. Pearl Cleage is a wonderful writer who entrances you from the beginning of the book, and keeps you enthralled unitl the last chapter. The characters in the story are so colorful and the reader can't help but want to talk back to each one.

Summary: Hope-filled, I cared about the characters
Review: I absolutely loved this book. Started it last night and finished this evening. Ava Johnson, HIV positive, comes home on a pit stop and becomes involved in her sister's life of helping young black women -- most teenage mothers. Uplifting, hopeful. Anyone who suggests this book is a waste of time or predictable is wrong! Yes, there are hints here and there of what is to come but the author's style and perspective makes you want to continue until the very end. Fortunately, the HIV positive diagnosis does not overwhelm the story. Rather, it makes you feel more alive and aware that we cannot waste our time on this earth. The characters, Ava and Eddie, give testimony to the fact that people can grow, learn and change through difficult situations -- HIV, Viet Nam. Joyce's character shows that there can be life after losing a wonderful partner. Absolutely worth every minute of my time.

Summary: Wonderful story
Review: I enjoyed reading and learning about the characters of this book. I think because they seemed so unlike me but then as the story progressed the more and more I saw they're universal qualities. It was an entertaining book to read that won't take up all of your time. I reccommend this one to anyone interested in a good read.

Summary: Read it in three hours
Review: Ok, I am a reader but I really don't have time to read but when I do I like the book to be captivating, vivid, and realistic. This book hits on all of those. If you or any one of the members in your family have a life threatening illness, this book will show you how you can get past all that and just... well just live you life. Kudos to this author!

Summary: Great Book!
Review: This was one of the best books I have ever read. It goes through the trials and tribulations of big city problems coming to a small town. Being from the area that the story takes place made the book even more realistic.

Summary: I didn't want it to end!
Review: I purchased this book based on the name alone. But once I began to read it, I simply could not put it down. The author has the talent to submerge the reader into a dire and seemingly hopeless situation and yet leave you feeling inspirated and uplifted. It is truly an example of the fact that life is what you make of it. I intend to give a copy of this book to anyone who is ever feeling down - it is better than medicine!

Summary: Predictable and boring
Review: This book was so predictable! I chose to read it because it was on the Oprah's Book Club List. Throughout the book, I was wondering what Oprah could possibly say that was positive about this book. I knew what the ending would be half-way through the book. I will choose from amongst the books on Oprah's list more carefully next time. Reading this book was a waste of time. I kept hoping for it to get better, but it never did. Thank goodness it was not any longer, and therefore torturous, than it was!

Summary: Very inspirational and enlightening
Review: I admit I only read this book out of curiosity because I am from Michigan and live near Idlewild. But, I was intrigued from the first page. It is amazing reading. I just wish everyone in this area would read this book. It is a shame.
