Rating: Summary: If you liked the movie, you're in for a treat!! Review: This is the best book I have ever read. I'm not sure which you should do first; read the book or see the movies(part 1&2). Although the movie was one of the best, this book blows it away. This is a sure shot, you can't go wrong. I have sugested it to many of my friends and I havn't been wrong yet. Actually, one of them refuses to give it back. Puzo is God!!
Rating: Summary: The best book who enjoys Mafia fiction shouldn't miss Review: The first time I read The Godfather was so enjoyed that I coudn't stop reading every night. After a couple of years I read it again. When I watched the 3 The Godfather movies (and I saw them several times as well), thought the book was -and indeed it is- much better than the movies. If you think family values are important in life you should read The Godfather and so you will find out Corleone family values, delighting the way they love each other. The writing style and deep values of life are revealed in Mario Puzo's novels. I recommend also his book: "Salvatore Giuliano: The Sicilian".
Rating: Summary: Greatest book ever Review: This is the best book I have ever read. I am only 17 so I have not read many books but I really doubt any book could come close to the Godfather. While reading a book it has to interest me quickly or I stop reading it, and I must say I could never put the Godfather down. The book made me feel like I was part of the great Corleone family. It was just so realistic. I have not been able to finish a book lately because I'm expecting another masterpiece like the Godfather.
Rating: Summary: Immensely enjoyed spending a few nights with the family Review: Although I missed The Godfather movie when it first came out - I was only 12 - I have seen all 3 Godfather movies several times since then. With the recent 25th anniversary release of the first movie and the 4-night showing of The Godfather I and II on TV at the end of July, I made a point to read the book. It is well-written and a tremendous read. I thoroughly enjoyed the hundreds of lines and quotes that were copied over to the movies (Godfather I and II). The movies, with all its fine actors and directing, comes close to matching the quality of the book.
Rating: Summary: A not-so realistic story of mob life Review: I first read this novel over 20 years ago. Recently, I decided to read it again. My appraisal hasn't changed. This is one of those
rare examples in which the movie(s) is better
than the book. There is no question the book is
masterfully crafted and written, but the characters of the Corleone family are so lacking
in realism as to actually invite your sympathies.
Puzo succeeds in making Don Corleone seem
like a guy you would'nt mind living next door to.
The foul language and crude behavior of mafia
hoods goes almost wholly unrecorded. More than anything, this is a revenge novel with a
story base that could take place in any old
cornball western, the Corleones are painted as
the good guys, while all the other "families" are
the truly bad guys. In reality, all of them are
villains which the world be better off without
Rating: Summary: The movie isn't enough Review: I can't imagine how anyone could watch the movie and understand all of the nuances unless they've read the book. The whole Johnny Fontain part seems much more important in the book then in the movie, as an example
Rating: Summary: This is a MUST read for those who enjoy Mafia fiction Review: The Godfather is one of my all time favorite novels! It is a story about sacrifice and family loyalty. A story about a true "prodigal son" and the woman who loves him. The book is much better then the movie! It show the intense love of a son who wanted nothing to do with the family business but then ends up saving it and himself. It tells about the strength of these organizations. It also has a wonderful ending. Puzo's Last Don is also wonderful. And the Sicilian is about Michael (the lead in the Godfather) however I found it boring and much lacking
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK MAKES ONE UNDERSTAND THE REASONS OF THE MOB! Review: THE GODFATHER WAS A VERY TOUCHING BUT YET AT THE SAME TIME SICK BOOK. THIS BOOK WAS BAISED UPON A TRUE STORY ABOUT A
MAN NAMED DON CORLLEION. DON CORLLEION WAS A LEADER OF A MOB
FAMILY. THIS MOB FAMILY MADE THEIR LIVING RACKATERRING, GAMBLING, AND KILLING ETC.
I FELT THIS BOOK TOUCHED ON ALL ASPECTS OF WHAT WAS AND CONTINUES TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM IN OUR SOCIETY ORGANIZED CRIME.
IF YOU LIKE REALISTIC GANGSTER BOOKS, YOU WILL WANT TO PASTE EVERY PAGE OF THE GODFATHER ON YOUR WALL.
Rating: Summary: A MUST read!!! Review: I have the paperback version of The Godfather, I have another version which is the "Big Font", I have the set of video tapes and I also have the set of laser discs. I must have seen this movie about 100 times and read the books about 20 times .... you must think I'm in my mid-50s, but the truth is I am not even 30 years old yet. Does that tell you how great The Godfather is? The book is obviously much better than the movie as it goes in depth about each situation and character that the movie couldn't go into. If you haven't read this already, you are really missing out on an incredible piece of work
Rating: Summary: A Timeless American Classic Review: I had always loved the movies, so I decided to read the book. To my suprise, I enjoyed the book more than the movie.
All the characterizations were excellent, I couldn't put it down. When I finished I felt that I had learned something about law, justice and family during the first half of the American Century.
