Rating: Summary: Audio CD- exciting driving"read" Review: I listened to the book over successive days and found myself driving out of my way to keep listening. The ending pulled everything together nicely- humans and wolves.
Rating: Summary: The Loop: A struggle of man and wolf Review: This is one of those books that you don't want to put down. Every new chapter leaves you wanting more. It was amazing to see the struggle of the town of Hope and the wolves. The bottled up hate of the wolves is displayed in its full fury. This story also shows the age of innonence of an eighteen year old boy and his struggle to overcome his father's overbearing attitude and the guilt of his brother's death and love. Helen Ross is escaping the agony of lost love and dealing with the hatre of the town of Hope, Montana. This story also brings light to a wolfer the guilt that has accumulated over the years of his killings of the wolves in the West. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves nature. If this book doesn't bring a tear to your eye than nothing will.
Rating: Summary: Exciting book... Review: One question...Nicholas Evans, when are you coming out with your next book? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I absolutely loved this book. It gripped me from the minute I started reading. I bought the book in an airport book store and I read it coming on, during and off the airplane. I had a hard time putting it down. I couldn't think of anything else but this book while I was reading it and probably won't be able to read another book for a long time.
Rating: Summary: The Loop Review: Very interesting, couldn't put it down. But.....John Deere tractors are GREEN not RED. This disappointed me since we are farmers and know the difference.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't Finish Reading..... Review: this novel, but not because I thought it was badly written or not worthwhile. On the contrary, I made it as far as the description of what "the loop" really is. After reading about this particular type of wolf extermination (i.e. sadistic torture) I was so enraged and disturbed I had tears in my eyes and had to close the book. I'm sure Mr. Evans desires that emotion, but I also know that this particular killing method is-or at least was--quite real. I'll give Evans 4 stars for what I DID read-because it evoked such anger in me that I believe I'll use the time I might have devoted to finishing this novel, to writing my representatives about supporting wolf reintroduction and protecting those few that are out there.
Rating: Summary: The Loop Review: Heart warming, and enchanting. Long live the wolves!
Rating: Summary: Interesting plot, but controversial. Review: The depiction towards the beautiful scenery of Montana in the book was impressive, the plot was also intriguing, too bad some of the chapters seemed digressive and dull, but the last 10 were breathtaking. I don't know much about American ranchers, however, I found some of the characterizations were insulting and mostlikely to provoke controversies.
Rating: Summary: Realistic point of View Review: I loved this book. I had bought it this summer and left it sitting one the shelf. This fall a new reading program was instituted at my school. So inorder to be a positive role model for my students I also read for the required time. I was very impressed with this book that I would stay up and read until early morning. What really impressed me was the realistic view of Montana ranch life. Growing up on an Angus ranch and having very mixed opinions of the wolf reintroduction the book grabbed me. I found my self thinking that the rancher in the book reminded me of someone I knew. At times I had to laugh, but nothing was because a fact was wrong. I think this is one of the best Montana books I have read in a long time. Now I have to gt my copy of the Horse Whisper out and read it. The movie did not do it justice.
Rating: Summary: Captivating but Insulting Review: The book has a fantastic plot. The characters are interesting and the story line develops well. However, Mr. Evans would greatly benefit by more thoroughly researching his subjects before publishing a supposedly believable novel on the subject. Granted, most of his facts were accurate, from a rancher's perspective. I was impressed by some of the details he put in the book. However, there were some glaring faults in some of the details. I felt insulted that he just assumed that no one reading the book would know better. I found it hard to take the book seriously after encountering some of these faults. I think the book is a wonderful representation of some of the emotional idiocies in which humans tend to engage. I applaud Mr. Evans for his excellent writing skills but this applause is shadowed by contempt for not caring enough about his topic to research it correctly.
Rating: Summary: easy to read, characters are interesting , setting is great Review: This book was very easy to read . I wish that the author had developed some of the character's personalities more. I also could have used better descriptions of the mountain setting they were in. I was sorry that it ended. I would love to read more books like this- a woman in the mountains, past or present day, interesting characters and a bit of romance too! Any suggestions? email me!
