Summary: Have you ever read a book that made you sigh? This is one!
Review: I cannot say enough about this book. I have read it cover to cover three times (it is not very long, mind you), and each time it touches me. Christine is wonderful. Joe is beautful. And your soul will feel like it just got hugged when you read this book. Not only do I keep rereading it (and its sequel Heaven In High Gear), but I love suggesting it to friends and buying it as a gift. I will truly speak to you and give you either encouragement or courage or both. It is not about self-help but the joys and permanence of SELF ACCEPTANCE and SELF LOVE. Can't take a vacation. Read this book. It will feel like one!!! Thank you Joan Brady!!!!!

Summary: "Hosannahs" for God on a Harley!
Review:

Some people find Spirit in a church or synagogue; some folks find Goddess in a grove of trees; some seekers find their Higher Power within; and some people, like Joan Brady's main character, find God on a Harley! This character, Christine Moore, has reached that stage of life where all the unachieved dreams, unwise choices, old mistakes, and new questions of meaning are rising up in one big black swirl of angst. She realizes she is existing, but not really living.

And then comes the night she walks home along the boardwalk and sees a man on a motorcycle out on the sand. He beckons to her and she finds herself answering him-- even though a lone woman meeting a leather-jacketed man on the beach late at night is not her usual idea of a good thing to do. There's just something about him...

It isn't long before he convinces her of who he really is, but once he does, Christine reacts with anger: "I want to know why you let so many of my prayers go unanswered? I want to know why you made life so hard for so many people? And furthermore, why did you lay down a bunch of rules that no one could possibly follow one hundred per cent of the time...?"

The man, "Joe" responds, "You're right about the Ten Commandments... That's why I've come back... I want to reach everyone again and give each person their own customized set of commandments. You know, guidelines that will work for the individual, not the masses."

The rest of the story involves discovering the personal guidelines for Christine that allow her to live life peacefully, meaningfully, and fulfillingly. Of course, she faces some challenges along the way! First, she doubts her "god-encountering" experience altogether. Later, she moves to the opposite extreme and finds herself falling in love with God! (After all, he IS a hunk of a guy, with shiny black hair and a muscular chest...) Ultimately though, she finds her way and ends up with her own six "commandments" that lead her to a life filled with more time, more joy, and more love.

It's always an amazing thing to find YOURSELF in a character in a book, to watch them live YOUR experiences and speak YOUR words! Perhaps I only enjoyed this novel so much because I WAS Christine! But wherever you are in your life; whatever your concept of Spirit; whatever your ideas about "Divine intervention"; or whatever you perceive god/goddess to be; this book can offer some fun, a few smiles, a little comfort, maybe even a bit of insight. With an open mind and a stretch of the imagination, who knows-- you may just find yourself on a new spiritual odyssey of your own!

Summary: GREAT READING!
Review: I picked up this book purely for the title (I own a Harley), and then couldn't put it down. Really restored my faith in God and that he will return someday in any form possible! Am now reading "Heaven in High Gear" by Joan Brady...

Summary: This book must have been written by an angel!
Review: I had just learned that the job of my dreams had been given to someone else. I was devastated. My self esteem was at an all-time low. Then I read God on a Harley. And there was "Joe" telling me that my ego was getting in the way of my happiness. That the world didn't revolve around me. That my not getting that job didn't mean I couldn't have done it; it just meant that someone else could do it, too. I was so happy I cried. Now I'm ready for "Joe" to give me my personal commandments

Summary: The literary find of my lifetime!
Review: A simple, unpretentious yet profound book that can be read in one sitting -- and will be reread time and time again. My first reading produced not only excitement but also the need to share: I was immediately compelled to buy this book for every 40- or 50-something woman I care about! I have never before been so moved. Joan Brady has read our minds. She knows how lost we have been; how much blame, shame and misery we have heaped on ourselves; and how, quite simply, we can rethink what we demand of ourselves. Thank you, Joan, for bringing "Joe" into my life; and thank you, "Joe" for reintroducing me to my "authentic" self

Summary: Light, Bright, & Witty Spiritualism for the 90's
Review: Joan Brady's "God On A Harley" is one of the books that is never long on my bookshelf because I am always taking it down to lend it to someone or re-reading it myself. This light, bright and witty fable reads like an amusing version of your favorite 12 step meeting (or should I say "6 step"?) but buried beneath its humour is a message for everyone who lives too fast, longs too hard and spins their wheels in pursuit of whatever seems to be around the corner. In fact, Brady takes a fantastic premise (woman meets God, who is clad in a biker jacket and leaning against the sexiest machine ever built) and immediately draws the reader into a story from which there is no escape. As the reader follows the journey of the novel's protagonist, Christine, she or he finds themself inadvertantly reflecting on their own journey through life, and evaluating who they are and where they want to go. The prose is catchy and stylized in a way that steals your heart and challenges your mind. It is impossible to emerge from the pages of Brady's short novel unchanged. It's OK to be over 30 and not an idealist, but if you can read "God On A Harley" and not be moved to appreciate who you are and the world around you, then you truly have no heart. And don't worry, after you put down (and pick up again, and again and again) this book, you'll find your own Joe will show up in strange and mysterious ways.

Summary: Spiritual; Uplifting; A Life Guidebook
Review: This book had a profound effect on me. I now have "new Commandments" to live by. It is like someone finally put down on paper what was whirling around in the back of my mind. I have recommended this book and have loaned my copy to friends over and over again. Rarely, if ever, does a book touch me and make a difference in my life

Summary: Easy to read. Easy to understand. Easy to feel good.
Review: The book is not long. I finished it in one afternoon. Nothing new or big. Just something we knew all along but needed a "being" like Joe to softly and patiently convince us that we CAN live happier. And shows us exactly how to achieve that

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An eye opening, feel good, laugh, cry, and ponder book.
Review: This is THE book to buy for people you care about. I must have purchased at least 12 already. The book challenges the way we look at rules and regulations. It help you understand guilt and what purpose it should serve in relationship to your life. I felt the need to read it in one sitting and then to call my best friend to share it with her. Joan Brady has written from her heart to ours. I would reccommend this book to all people from antheist to archangels. One read and I know you will agree with me. Breegee @AOL.co

Summary: Mind-popcorn for stressed out women seeking inner peace
Review: Are you a working woman who seems to give everything to your work? And do you find yourself lacking passion for life? And do you feel apprehensive that there's nothing else to life but this? If yes, you'll connect with 37 year old Christine Moore as she meets God on a Harley and learns some great lessons in how she is living her life. I read it once simply to enjoy it and then read it a second time to reflect on how the lessons relate to my life.
