Summary: Outstanding Debut
Review: After seeing this book on the Essence list for several months, I purchased it after spotting on a bookstore shelf while I was looking for something "different" to read. The book does get you "caught up" in the plight of the main character from the beginning. If readers are looking for high drama mixed with a glimpse of street life, they can't go wrong by checking this book out.

Summary: A Sizzling Page Turner
Review: Caught Up, the debut novel by author Winston Chapman was written in just 63 days. In this book, Chapman invites you to enter the world of strip clubs, pornography and fast money. Raven Klein is a bi-racial teenager who lives in Iowa with her white foster mother who works at a diner. Dealing with racist comments from the local community and being the object of the white boys sexual curiosity, Raven wishes for a better life. One day she hops a bus, leaving Iowa behind to search for a place where she can connect with her African American roots. A chance meeting with Nia at the bus station leads Raven to Atlanta. What she finds there is a drama filled life that includes sex, money and intrigue.

Nia, a former stripper turned music video dancer, has dreams of becoming an R&B singer. Nia is the top girl in Rico's harem of strippers. No longer having to strip for Rico, Nia has enough pull with him to offer Raven a place to stay and assistance with a job. After reneging on a promise to Rico, Nia's role as Rico's top girl is quickly replaced by Raven.

Rico is the owner of two Atlanta area strip clubs, one for the everyday working man and another for stars in the music and sports industry. When he recognizes what an asset Raven is to his business, he gives her part ownership in the clubs and even proposes marriage.

Tyanna, Nia's tri-sexual friend (she'll try anything sexually), brings in big dollars for Raven. Having once sought revenge on Raven for causing Nia to lose her position with Rico, Tyanna later realizes that Raven has her back as well as Nia after she performs several favors for them. Tyanna returns the favors by helping to save her from a deadly situation.

I was truly caught up in this book. The erotic scenes were hot! Murder, blackmail and deception spices the story as Raven finds true love. Nia receives the fame that she seeks and Rico gets what is coming to him when his actions catch up with him. The plot contained lots of twists and turns up until the very end. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Summary: Don't Hate The Playa - Hate The Game
Review: Having been heralded by some as the "male Zane", Winston Chapman's CAUGHT UP! is creating a buzz deserving of its own merit, in the contemporary African-American world of fiction! Delving deep into the underworld of strip clubs, pornography and betrayal, Chapman keeps readers on the edge of their seats with this stunning debut filled with eroticism, suspense and drama.

Determined to leave Des Moines, Iowa and never to return, bi-racial Raven Klein, heads to the Greyhound bus station with no destination in mind. Sure to find her "roots" in Atlanta, GA, Raven sets off for HOTLANTA; but encounters more than her roots when she hooks up with Nia, a wannabe model/dancer in music videos, and her "boyfriend" and ex-football player, Rico. Quickly Raven is CAUGHT UP! - in the lifestyle of sex, money and power - and later murder as she gives new meaning to the phrase "don't hate the playa, hate the game."

Outstanding, intriguing and riveting! A definite page-turner from beginning to end, Winston Chapman has weaved a tale of deception, seduction and poetic justice so vivid it's like watching a movie. No wonder CAUGHT UP! has been ranked #1 by BestBlackFiction.com. I highly recommend CAUGHT UP! to readers of drama and suspense, and look forward to future works by this author.

Summary: Good Read
Review: I actually voted this book 3.5 stars. This was a good book, from start to finish. Caught Up is story about a young bi-racial women by the name of Raven, who is from Idaho who is tired of the small country life. She sets out to leave the small town of small minds and heads to a city where she can identify with others like herself. She sparks up a friendship with a young lady she meets at the train station and heads to Atlanta. Raven jumps head first into the fast life and soon finds herself in a world filled with sex, lies, videotapes and murder!
I still find it hard to believe that a 19 year old from Iowa, who has never set foot out of the state, can go to Atlanta and accomplish all the things that she did in the book. Overall the book was a great quick read.

Summary: Better than sex...
Review: I bought this book first because of the cover, then ye 'ol weatherman said it was going to rain the entire weekend. Okay, 1 out of 2 is not so bad. It rained one day, but I was able to finish this book in one night. The characters you can totally relate to, the plots and subplots flowed like the Nile River. And the ending? Not one of those 'happily every after' blah , blah, blah. But one of those endings that made you say, "Dayum!!" on a crowded subway during rush hour in Manhattan!! Simply put, I loved it, I loved it!!

Summary: okay book - but i have read better
Review: i hate it when reviewers tell the plot of the book, so i won't go that route. i purchased the book from a local book store because it got pretty good ratings on amazon.com, but i was very disappointed when i actually started to read the book. the writer's style was a little odd to me (ie question marks at the end of statements, not questions) and because he bragged about writing the book in abut 65 days, i clearly thought that he should have taken an extra week to edit it. this book was somewhat interesting, but i have read better. the plot was suspenseful toward the end, but not very realistic, thus making it difficult to keep my attention. the very last chapter was horribly short and left me with many unanswered questions. the book is better than a rating of 3 but it definitely does not deserve a 4.
