Summary: Obviously Works
Review: Despite its overlength and awful ethnic stereotypes, this remains a standard button-pusher. Uris wrote the book at the prompting of a public relations man for Israel (see "THe Persuasion Explosion"). The man chose wisely. Uris's tale of a love story across backgrounds so well sells the heart that people actually get angry if reminded that the book is racist towards Arabs and historicaly inaccurate in a malicious way. If you care about truth and decency you wil take Uris' book in amixed fashion, as a good tale on another planet where all Arabs really are "kill-crazy" beasts and the colonization of someone else's homeland will make one weep with sentimentality.

Summary: Best book ever
Review: This was my favorite book that I have ever read. It was my second Leon Uris book, the last time I read Mila 18, which was great, but nothing could compare with Exodus. The night I read about the Jews freeing Little Giora (Dov Landau) and Akiva, I was nearly in tears and pictured myself within the mass crowds trying to free the old man and the young brave Landau. I only wish the book had been longer so I could keep reading it over and over. For anyone who reads and loves Exodus, I would also reccomend Mila 18, which is the story of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

Summary: The single best book I ever read
Review: "Exodus" by Leon Uris was the single best book I have ever read. I am a 15 year old Christian girl who has never experienced anything close to the struggles of the characters in this book, but what touched me the most was that some of them are my own age. The book so descriptive that I felt as though I was one of the characters. It really made me think about all that I have as a privilaged teenager. I would reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys historical and thought-provoking books.

Summary: This book is awesome!
Review: I had to read this book as a sophomore in high school 5 years ago, and liked it, but didn't think it was great. A year ago, I decided to re-read it, and absolutely fell in love with it. I've read it a dozen times already, and plan to read it a t least a dozen more. It might mot be historically accurate, but it WILL inspire you to learn about the history of the region and the different people who inhabit it. The story between Kitty and Ali is more touching now that I am older and more aware of adult emotions. I truly recommend it to anyone!

Summary: NLS approved book
Review: Leon Uris' book, Exodus, is a great book. It is exciting and full of action, yet very educational. Exodus is about the story of the history of the Jews, and the Zionist movement when they reclaimed their homeland Israel. Most of where the book is set is in the unfamiliar lands of the middle east, but Uris does a good job of describing it and making seem as if you lived there all your life. The characters in Exodus easily relate to most readers. When reading, you almost feel as if you are being persecuted just as the Jews were. It's very easy to imagine that you are in fact a part of the Zionist movement, and are fighting for your own freedom.

The best reading audience for Exodus I would say is anyone over the age of fifteen. The reading is not extremely difficult, but Uris does use a large vocabulary. Many of the words are also unfamiliar since they are Jewish and Arabic words. I do not think that anyone under the age of fifteen would really appreciate this book, and the reality of the Jewish plight that it portrays.

There are many themes and lessons learned in the book. It teaches courage, bravery, and to stand up for what is rightfully yours. The over all quality of this book is excellent. I would highly recommend it to any adult.

Summary: This book is full of history
Review: I had to read this book for school. I usually just skim the books I read for school, but this one I had to read because there were no cliff notes. Much to my suprise this book wasn't as boring as I expected. It gave an indepth look into the formation of a nation and the devolopment of a socitey that was forced to form behind closed doors. The characters in this novel are very strong and sensitive. Many of the events that took place in the novel were actuall events that happened in real life and the author did an excellent job tying the events into the lives of the characters.I recomend to read this book even if you don't have too, it is a great story that is combined with actual history.

Summary: My favorite
Review: It is a great book. I always say to everybody who asks me about my feelings toward Israel that he should read this book. And to those of you who said it might be a little one-sided view and a bit against the arabs I say that you should read The Haj as well and you ll know most of the hístory as it happened!

Summary: Very moving and passionate tale of the birth of Israel
Review: This was a great book. I had known quite a bit about modern Israeli history before reading this novel, but after completing it, I wanted nothing less than to go there myself. It is a wonderful story about a beleaguered people trying to redeem themselves in the eyes of a prejudiced world.

The downside is that the reader must take into account the biased nature of the novel. It is very pro-Israeli, and if the reader is not careful, he or she might forget about the Arabs' claim to the Holy Land. One must not forget that it is a very controversial issue, and that no one side is completely right.

Nonetheless, it is an extremely moving book, and it is one of the most rewarding books I have ever raed - if not the most rewarding.
