Rating: Summary: Love this book! Review: I read this book long ago in anticipation of the movie being released. I was in no way disappointed. I immediately fell in love with the book. The movie does no justice to the book. I have re-read the book at least 5 times since the movie version came out in theaters, and lent it out numerous times to be read by others. One person (a guy, ironically) said that the book humbled him. I agree. I guess Novalee's situation does really make you stop and think, because contrary to popular belief this does happen in real life. Abandonement, teen pregnancy, hoping to make it big... these are common day occurances across America. I don't know exactly what it is, but I can pick the book up at any time, even knowing everything that happens, and read it again in one or two sittings. It has to be one of my absolute favorites. A definite recommend for anyone looking for a happy-ending book, especially considering it is an easy read.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book Review: I loved reading "Where the heart Is", from Billie Letts. It is a very sweet novel, and I fell in love with the characters. This is an irresistible story about a 17 year old, pregnant, abandoned by her boyfriend at a Wal-Mart in Oklahoma when they were driving to California. She soon finds out about the interresting and loving people that live in that little town. Some people might find this book "cheesy", but I enjoyed it and recommend it too. I've read some other Oprah's Book Club books, and thought they tended to be a little depressing. Not this one, though. It is a great story, easy to read, and one of those books you want to read again someday.
Rating: Summary: A Worthwhile Read! Review: I sure enjoyed this story sometime ago when I read it, but it still stands out in my mind very well. Poor Novalee Nation was heading for California with her boyfriend, who was a real louse, in order to just stranded by him at a Wal-Mart store in Oaklahoma. She lives in the store, jobless, and pregnant not knowing for sure to what to do. She live in the store for quite awhile until finally, help is on the way from a nun, Sister Husband, to the rescue. Until she goes to live with Sister Husband, though, many things take place in her tough life, and as you read, you will see what happens to this poor young lady, and her luck in life until she gets going in the right directions. I don't wish to give too much away about the happenings, but you must read to know what I mean here!
Rating: Summary: Glad I read it! Review: I am glad that I picked this book up to read. I got it at a yard sale and was pleased that I read it. It is a simple story and easy to read. If you like a book with quirky characters, you'll like this one.
Rating: Summary: Cute, Feel Good book Review: This is a fun book that leaves you smiling. It's a quick read that reassures your faith in human kindness.
Rating: Summary: This is my Favorite Book! Review: I love this book. I have read it about 3 times already. I saw the movie and didn't know there was a book until my teacher read some of it to us. I had to go buy the book so I could finish it that day. I do like the book better than the movie. The movie is good too. I can't wait for her next book to come out. I think it comes out this week. I have read her other book too "Honk and Holler Opening Soon".
Rating: Summary: amazing characters---a must read Review: This is one of my favorite books. Billie Letts has the amazing ability to create characters you will always love and treasure. Her characters have good things, bad things, deformities, short-comings, and yet beautiful qualities all mixed together. She creates developed characters you feel like you know as real people, and learn to love. Even after I finished the book, I couldn't stop thinking about Novalee, Forney, Americus, and Sister Husband. I would strongly recommend this book. I bought it and finished it on the same day; it's the definition of pageturner.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: For story, character, plot, entertainment, readability, and all the other positive elements you will ever find in a good book, this one is a winner. I saw the movie before I bought the book, and still couldn't put it down until I'd finished it.
Rating: Summary: Great book--Great summer read! Review: This was an enjoyable book, highly recommeded.
Rating: Summary: Nice outline Review: Yes, this is a nice outline but I'm still waiting for the fully developed story and characters. Seems the author spent her time finding quirky names for her people (one more cute name and I would have thrown the book out) and did actually find herself "stumbling from one chapter to another, from one event to another", as she states in the "Q & A" with the author. Several major events occur but Ms. Leitts is happy to just drop us off a cliff. Oh, what a big, rich book this could have been had the author made the effort.
