Summary: Off the wall and a good gut-buster to boot!
Review: I loved it. The characters were colorful, disturbed, and slightly disturbing, though not so disturbing as Kyle's review above. Buddy, this is FICTION! I've been to Florida too and no, I didn't see any one there even remotely like the characters in the book. I should hope that if I were to die tomorrow and go to the Devil that I wouldn't find them down there either, because quite frankly they would scare me to death. And that my friends is the beauty of this book. If you appreciate post modern violence, sex, drugs, and rock and roll, or if you don't mind laughing until things best left unsaid come rushing out of your nose, then this is the book for you. All you other guys might enjoy a good Jane Austin novel, or even something a litlle more cerebral.

Summary: Disturbing view of Florida
Review: I bought this book hoping to read a crime mystery novel with Florida sites and history involved. After finishing the book, I felt sick. Dorsey paints a picture of Florida that would drive every sightseer out of the state. He kills off characters and bystanders with the flick of his pencil. Drugs, sex, and murder are commonplace in every characters story. As a resident of Florida, I have been to many places in the novel and have yet to encounter any of the types of people Dorsey created. The tempo of the book is that of a NASCAR race with setting changes mid-sentence. Characters who appear throughout the book are killed off in one sentence like they never existed. I hope Dorsey does not believe he lives in the Florida that he depicts in this stomach turning novel.

Summary: Blending of Edna Buchanan, Dave Barry and Carl Hiaasen
Review: This is a laugh out loud story in the tradition of Dave Barry and Carl Hiassen. Yet it is also part Elmore Lenoard and Edna Buchanan. What it is not though is boring. This is a book that almost must be read in one seating because the reading pace is so fast and furious that you are too afraid to miss anything. Buy this book and read it at your own risk, laughing may actually reduce the stress in your life.

Summary: Very Funny In Parts, Disturbing In Others
Review: This being my favorite genre I was very interested in what first time author Tim Dorsey had to offer. Dorsey does a fine job with the character presentation and does display the lunacy of South Florida very well. Dorsey tries hard to be like Carl Hiaasen but lacks the polish, that will come with a few more novels.

The story revovlves around many characters and case of money. The main character Serge is well thought out. A man with the love of history of Florida and a very brutal side. His sidekicks Coleman and Sharon are the most fun in the novel, tagging along with Serge's antics, and hoping they can find the money. Dave and Sean are also very likeable as the unknowing heros. The money switches hands a few times and all characters end up battling for it, at the Southern most part of Florida.

The problem with this book is the number of characters. There are way too many to follow and some get lost in the story line and then reappear a hundred pages later. The story get weighted down with all the major players. The killings are very gruesome and not for everybody. In total will wait for the next one, which could prove to be much better

Summary: Florida "OVER KILL" is more like it
Review: Too over the top, too many players to keep track of. Nice plot but Dorsey is killing himself trying to "out do" Hiaasen. The result is a really bad knock-off. Not funny, not witty, the characters are too extreme. My biggest complaint however, is the volume of characters that were introduced; the book was just too "busy" to be enjoyable.

Summary: LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY!
Review: Tim Dorsey has joined that small cadre of writers (Carl Hiassen, Elmore Leonard, Dave Barry) who make me laugh at the state I grew up in. FLORIDA ROADKILL is outrageous, sometimes ludicrous, but downright funny. I had to move into another room to read the book at night because my laughing kept waking my wife up. Dorsey's characters are hysterical, magnifying the best and worst of human behavior to the utter extreme. His descriptions of Florida, especially Tampa (my hometown), are so dead on I thought I was reading a travel guide. My only real issue is that the plot does take a backseat on occasion as Dorsey pulls out all the stops introducing characters, throwing them together in a neverending series of bizarre encounters, dropping them off and then picking them up again later in the narrative. It's easily forgivable, though, when you're laughing so hard at Dorsey's over-the-top descriptions that your sides hurt. I can't wait for the sequel.

Summary: Mr. Dorsey's Wild Ride
Review: Florida Roadkill was one I could not put down. I laughed out loud at the wild antics of these strange, yet frighteningly believable, characters. (I think I met some of these folks one night in an after-hours in Tampa.)

I ventured with the crew on their wild roadtrip, wondering who would finally meet up and how all the puzzle pieces would fit together. I find myself looking around now at people wondering if they could be Serge, or one just like him. Congrats, Tim, on one heck of a novel that makes me proud to be a Floridian!

Summary: Sick,Perverted Trash
Review: I can't believe all the positive reviews for this book.It is really, really, bad.I quit reading when I came across a character named "Cheese-Dick."Please.This is just disgusting garbage.I'm no prude.I loved "Pulp Fiction",anything by Elmore Leonard, but this isn't anywhere in the same class. And to the guywho wrote that the charcters in this book reminds him of people he knows,I would strongly suggest he get some new friends, pronto!

Summary: Deep down, we're all just a little sick!
Review: Anyone who's ever lived in Florida must read Florida Roadkill. That is, as long as you can take a joke! It's a roller coaster ride through the sunshine state with characters that all remind us of someone else we know, whether you like to admit it or not! You'll find yourself cracking up laughing, then ashamed at yourself for laughing at something so sick. But not for long, because before you know it, Tim finds a way to throw something even crazier at you. It's a talespin that you won't be able to put down until you're done, only to wish that the story lasted longer. This book really jump-starts your imagination: well done!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Dynamic novel that preys on the ironies our post modern civ
Review: The character story lines were well written and hilarious, though they could have been wrapped up a little tighter. An elusive tale that gets to the heart of power, greed, and sexuality and dissects them, giving the reader an insight to the inner workings of some shady characters. Take Serge for example, a psychological catastrophe, but a guy with a good heart. That is what Dorsey does, he brings these nefarious characters into a postive light and lets the reader relate to them. And for that I give him four stars.
