Rating: Summary: FENCES,A BOOK OF CRITICAL LIVES Review: Fences,by August Wilson,is a great and strong play, which tries to teach it's audience about a poor African-American family that goes through a lot of changes while trying to achieve their dreams. In this play,Rose Maxson,a middle-aged woman who is a good mother and wife, tries to keep her family together, while dealing with Troy Maxson's faults and infidelity. She dedicated her life to Troy, but slowly everything changes everyone's life, especially Troy's surprise. I think one of the things that makes this play so dramatic is the way the people in the play lose trust in one another. It's really hard to forgive their faults. Even though they loved each other so much, one little mistake ruined it. I think this play was great. It talked about a lot of things that happen now in real life.Troy reminded me of my father, who is a hard-working and honest man.Rose relates a lot to my mother because she is very religious,a good mother, and also fears a future without my father. The lesson I learned was that you should never trust a person if you're not sure about their feelings towards you. Also, don't let problems get between your love ones.I enjoyed reading this two-act play.I learned a lot of important things about life. This is an intresting story.
Rating: Summary: PRETTY GOOD BOOK Review: This book was pretty good. It dealt with many issues and was true to life in many circumstances. Troy needed to understand how to change, and for a stubborn man he struggled with that. I feel that that is the main idea of the play. For a family growing up in that time with little money, Wilson portrayed the situation nicely.
Rating: Summary: Fences Review: The theme of the story was the best part of it. They also used great diolect to create the right setting. The chacters were descired very well and this made for a better story. It wasn't the best play I ever read but it was entertaining. It shows you the every day struggles that a family has to endure. I recomend it to anyone that wants to understand a father son relationship at the time the story takes place.
Rating: Summary: THATS LIFE Review: I think this was a great play, it seemed like reality. The characters were so real, the arguments were real, hell even the cheating was real! Generally I hate reading anything other than sports, cars, and news but this play reached out to me with the tension of family struggles. Troy reminded me of past father figures, he was a man who thought "This is my house, everyone listen to me, when I say jump you say how high" I really relate to Cory not only because we share the same name, but because we're so dedicated in our future goals. We also dont like to be held down, if we feel this or that event may be the right thing for our life, than so be-it we're gonna do it! Great book. Ending was kinda shallow and sudden, but still that's life.
Rating: Summary: Damn good book Review: I dont like reading books, I usually read car mags and news papers. But this book reached out to me because I can relate to some of the characters, especially Cory, not only do we share the same name but we're so dedicated in our future goals of life. Plus he is into sports and so am I. Football is a good sport, yet Troy has the right idea, because baseball is Americas favorite past time.
Rating: Summary: The play about different life relationships. Review: Fences by August Wilson is a great play because of the dialogue and relationships between the different characters. I especially liked the relationship between Troy and his son Cory, because it very realistic to the way children were raised in that day and age. I also enjoyed the relationship between Troy and his best friend Bono because they confronted each other when they were doing something wrong. All and all this play is a real good pick for most all ages. I recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Great play! Review: I think this is a great play. I was forced to read the book in my literature class at college. But after all, I enjoyed it. I like the theme.
Rating: Summary: August Wilson's, "Fences" Review: "Fences," by August Wilson, is a wonderful mix of drama and comedy that emphasizes the tribulations and confusions people were going through, during the changing sixties. In this two-act play, Troy Maxson is a middle-aged African American who is struggling to raise a son, keep a family together and deal with the new desires and needs everybody is beginning to feel as social standards slowly begin to change. As a child growing up, Troy did not have a great father figure, and he was not able to persue his dream of becoming a great baseball player as he grew older, because of racial limitations of the time period. Now as things begin to change for the better, he is still afraid of these limitations and overcoming them. His son wants to play football, but Troy doesn't want him to. He wants him to get a job and become good with his hands. As he refuses to let his son play, he pushes him away. He begins to push his wife away too, because he feels he needs his own space and has new desires. This play becomes a struggle for Troy to try to pass on morals he thinks are right and to be a proud man in a time where hatred is strong and boundaries are being broken. Troy Maxson is having to change his ways according to change and he grew up doing what he could to survive, so changing after so many years of living a certain way to survive is harder than anything he has had to deal with before. Will he come out of it successful?A wonderful blend of characters, hysterical, beautiful, bold, courageous and passionate; this play is sure to win your favor.
Rating: Summary: Fences is a story of triumph and freedom... Review: Fences is a refreshing play that portrays a young Black American struggling to find his own identity at a time when racial tension and individual liberties are at the greatest conflict. Cory breaks the mold that his family has formed over the past generations, and steps out - seeking happiness and his true identity.
Rating: Summary: Dysfunctional family relationships Review: The book was good. I found a few quotes, that reflect that of a dysfunctional family. The attitudes of the characters, and the behavior of the main character was that of a superior attitude to everyone else. The main character displayed an attitude of selfishness.
