Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A challenging but powerful and even entertaining novel. Review: In the more famous half of the novel, Rushdie was trying to be the Islamic Voltaire--challenge Muslim fundamentalists and examine their faith in the light of history; but the rest of the book is devoted to an impassioned exploration of the lives of South Asian immigrants living in England, focussing on the prejudice and ignorance of the British. It is also a very funny book, provided you don't identify too closely with the targets of his satire. Some specialized knowledge will help you enjoy the book more. Such knowledge is available in my Web notes to the book. If you have a taste for highly intellectual multicultural satire, the book can be thoroughly enjoyable.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Rushdie's novel is a brilliant tour de force. Review: I read this novel over a year ago, and still name it among the best that I have ever read. Rushdie's poetic prose takes some getting used to, but once you've become accustomed to the style, it flies by. Although I am neither a scholar of Islaam nor of India, I absorbed this magical piece of fiction on many levels: as compelling fiction with meaningful characters, as humor, as tragedy, and as a social commentary. This book has changed my paradigm, and that's the highest praise that I can give.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Garbage for Idiots Review: What a piece of thrash this book is ! Most of Rushdie's supporters havent even read the book or understand it fully because of they lack an understanding of the hindi/urdu language in which Rushdie hides his blatant insults against Islam. The End.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: great on all levels Review: Rushdie is a master of the English language. His prose is comic and quirky but at the same time tender and beautiful. The same is true of the novel itself. Rushdie brilliantly and successfully tackles the problem of discussing good and evil in the context of 20th century moral ambiguity. The Satanic Verses is everything a novel should be. It is witty, moving, and important, and it is fun to read.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Breathtakingly boring with an ambitious goal Review: I finally decided to buy this book and read it. I am not much into religion and don't understand the fuss about this book. It is a breathtakingly boring book. I really don't think Mr.. Rushdie wanted to enlighten his fellow Moslems by this book, he must have had a much more ambitious goal in mind than that, I think he wanted to bore them all into a coma. I spend my money on this book, and it is nobodies fault but my own, I should have not been influenced by media frenzy.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Book ia a mirror Review: Any book is a mirror reflecting the state of the mind of its author, less so for scientific books and more so books of "novels". I found this book to be a reflection of the author's mind than to be an objective or enlightening work on religion. My assesment was to be proven right when Mr. Rushdie, in an interview offered his final solution to complicated world problems:" people need to get together and make love to each other more." hmmmmm, Could the current situation in DC be the result of impleminting " Rushdie" spiritualsim?
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Difficult to read, even more difficult to understand. Review: A bookclub I belong to read this book. All of us are well read, and don't read trash. None of us found this book enjoyable or easy to follow or understand. Most did not finish the book. I don't understand why it is considered so good.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The most original book I have read in a long long time! Review: I can't put this book down! Mr. Rushdie is a classicly skilled writer - not a beginner to the art - and those of you who hunger for well written prose will not be disappointed. Satanic Verses is a classic reiteration of the age-old question "Who are we and why are we here?" There is much provocation for the mind in those pages, and I highly recommend the book.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Well thought out!!! Review: In this book, Rushdie does an excellent job of bringing out creative ideas. Metamorphosis, the description of Saladin and Chamcha's life has made this book one of my favorites. The books notorious reputation simply comes from readers who perseive this book in a way it was never meant to.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Not Salman Rushdie's best, but still great Review: I enjoyed this book. It is based largely on the koran, which meant a good deal of the characters and story were unfamiliar to me. That was a mixed blessing. Read this book if you're a fan of Rushdie's other books, but if this is the first time you're reading one of his books, start out with something else, preferably Midnight's Children.
