Summary: Mind Blowing
Review: It's complex, so elaborate, yet, within the complexity lies so simple, so easy to understand, the good vs. evil battle. Our inner demons, everything. This a great book. Read it, go beyond everything you've heard about Rushdie, forget all the controversy revolving around the book, simply read it , and see what I mean.

Summary: a dull and confusing rendition of good vs evil
Review: I was thirteen years old when I read this book and found it to be the worst book I ever read. It is about two Indian men who are victims in a hijacked plane. Through some miracle the two survive but then become opponents in the war between good and evil. Despite the hype this book is extremely bad. The combination of dull, confusing narration, and the use of other languages make for long and arduous reading. It also includes some less than flattering coments about Islam. I dislike the characters as much as I do the book their in. Without good characters a book is nothing. I found myself strugling to get through it. The only reason I finished it was so that I could call it a bad book without being accused of making parts of it up. All in all I would have to regard this book as worthless and poorly written. I would not recomend this book to anyone. It is barely worth the star I give it and even then it is a stretch. The main selling point was probably the contraversy that it created.

Summary: How can it not recieve this amount?
Review: I find it impossible to give Satanic Verses less than 5 stars for the simple fact that this book is so well researched. I am an avid reader, yes, but i see no point in reading a book to say i have endured the whole 600 pages. I knew that this was a book i would like, if i could get through it. So at the suggestion of a friend i went to an amazing web site and downloaded page by page what each Indian term meant, as well as where names etc were originated. Never, and i mean never, have i had greater insight into a novel. I would highly suggest this method for anyone who has a wavering attention span, or does not know Indian. Some may think, hey, thats cheating. However, is the aim not to enjoy the novel? I would really consider doing this before attemptiing to conquer this, at times, tedious and difficult novel. You'll appreciate it to the extent it deserves.

Summary: Over-hyped because of the controversy.
Review: This book's high sales are solely due to the controversy it created. Rushdie has written far better books such as Shame and Midnight's Children. Although Rushdie is famous for his abrupt shifts in scene he seems to lose the thread of the story himself in the middle. His chatty style can also get irritating. The few lucid parts are engrossing, however. Not worth the effort, though.

Summary: excellent...though tough to comprehend
Review: i recently managed to get my hands on this masterpiece of the millenium.(though...this is banned in india.despite being an indian and my knowledge of islam and stuff...the book is still quite tough to comprehend (had to read parts of it 3-4 time to make sense).Rushdie demonstrates great skill and maturity in depicting various scenes in this magnum opus as it reveals....

Summary: Intimidating, but fulfilling...
Review: *****As a fifteen year-old, reading "The Satanic Verses" I am more than sure that I missed most of the religious parallels. However, this book was nonetheless a great read. The stories are original and present a lot of different outlooks on the human disposition. Much reccomended (Along with "Haroun and the Sea of Stories").*****

Summary: Oh, Please!
Review: I am an 8th Grader. I don't know what the other people say, but this book is incredibly easy to read! They must all be stupid or somthing, I had no trouble. It is an Exciting adventurous book with many curious twists. Easy to read. Thankyou Salman Rushdie!

Summary: A book of Biblical proportions!
Review: I keep aside a month of each year to re-read the Satanic Verses. It's like a heady dose of literary manna that needs to be sipped and savoured. A mastermasterpiece. Without the challenges this book presents to the intellect, life would truly be dull. Thankyou Rushdie.

Summary: The fatwa was personal
Review: Anyone amazed that this textually playful meta-novel earned the author a death sentence from the Ayatollah Khomeini need look no further than the first part of the segment entitled "Ayesha". It portrays an exiled Islamic cleric, the Imam, who surrounds himself with bodyguards to avoid seeing London (where he lives). Upon his return to his homeland, he metamorphoses into a man-eating monster. That this segment is a thinly veiled comment on Khomeini himself (who was exiled in London during the reign of the Shah) should be obvious to anyone. The (ultimately rather respectful) portrayal of the prophet Mohammed merely provided a useful cover for the Ayatollah's childish revenge on Rushdie for his satire.

Summary: Disgusting.Amoral.
Review: I don't think the book will serve to educate people. Very disgusting. I would give no star but had no more choices. I have seen the Satan in the minds of the author. He is the Devil that destroys spirituality of the people. No more comments.
