Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Of De Profundis Review: De Profundis often wavers between being pathetic to be profundly insightful. The idea that it wavers in the realm of patheticness is something Wilde more than readily admits within his writings. What most moved me was his arguement, with substantiating evidence, that Christ was the first individual, and that Christ isn't so concerned with the one's appearance of good or evil as he is with what is within one's spirit. His comments on Jesus come well over mid way through the book (letter), but anyone interested in an interpretation on the nature of Christ well ought to read it. It is the interpretation of someone who is far from gaining anything material as a broker of the name of Christ. I feel more than ever that Jesus' name can be used as that of a friend. I wonder how many people of the 20th century stole his cornucopia of ideas and turned them into theses, or worse, misguided theses. The greatest complaint that I have with wilde is his lack of pursuing an idea or belief or prejudice until it fully argued and rooted in something. His over riding principle of life was being who he was, his ideas were rooted in him, and he was incredibly gifted at showing the truthlessness in so much that is taken as truth. If you're interested in an interprtation of Jesus, weed through, and find the four or five pages he wrote on the importance of Jesus, or if you have lost faith and are wondering where to find it because it seems stolen by the noise and profiteering of life, find those 4 or 5 pages on Jesus and Dante, well worth reading.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The essential guide to sagacity Review: It's not really necessary to say that Wilde is one of the best authors ever. His works are obligatory to any serious reader's bookshelf. If you are not a native English speaker, it's also a good fountain of vocabulary and "Brit" wit. Well done Oscar, wherever you are!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: There's only one Oscar Wilde. Review: Most delightful were his plays which were acutely sharp, witty and poignant. Absolutely fabulous.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Recommended Review: Most paperbacks the size of this one, nearly 3" wide, are hard to hold onto but the quality of this paperback is very good and text size easily readable. So far I have found every Oscar Wilde entry I was looking. Highly recommend.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Recommended Review: Oscar Wilde is one of my very favorite writers. He wrote some very interesting stories such as "The Picture of Dorian Gray". He also wrote very good dialogue. I place him second only to Shakespeare where the dialogue is concerned. Wilde also created well-developed and intriguing characters. I would highly recommend his works.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: GET TO KNOW THE MAN Review: Oscar Wilde wrote some of the most brilliantly crafted, witty plays of all time. Get this book and read everything in it! You're really missing out if you haven't read any of his work. His humor is so wicked and will have you cackling evilly at the genius of his dialogue. "The Picture Of Dorian Gray" is also one of the most unforgettable and captivating stories I've ever read. Highly recommended.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Wilde the Wit Review: Oscar Wilde's best plays, like "Salome", "An Ideal Husband", and his masterpiece "The Importance of Being Ernest" are among the finest in the English language, second only to Shakespeare's incomparable masterworks. Through his incredible talent and gift for words, Wilde takes what would otherwise be merely a silly parlour-room drama and turns it into an unforgettably amusing experience that tickles you with its smart humor non-stop. And the fact that you "get" the humor makes you feel rather sophisticated. I can't think of a single writer to match Wilde's gift for coining clever and witty remarks and paradoxical epigrams, both in his work and in his life. A few of his poems are also very fine, like "The Ballad of Reading Gaol." Lastly, Wilde also wrote a highly thought-provoking novel full of ideas that can be called "poisonous" and provocative even today, about a good-looking man who falls in love with his own portrait and sells his soul for eternal youth, but with each immoral deed he commits, the portrait grows older and uglier while he remains beautiful and young. Very clever plot for a novel, no less clever than the dialogue that makes plays like "The Importance of Being Ernest" such a stand-out.David Rehak author of "Love and Madness"
