Summary: Keyes does it again!
Review: Whenever I hear that Marian Keyes has written another book, I automatically put it on my wish list ~~ and a dear online reading buddy sent it to me as a baby shower gift! What a blessed afternoon I got to spend reading about Maggie Walsh's escapades in Los Angeles. Worth every page of it!

Maggie Walsh Garvin is the "responsible" Walsh daughter. She didn't have her husband leave her the day she delivered her baby like her older sister Clare. She didn't experiment with drugs like her other sister, Rachel did. She was the one who seems to be perfect in every way ~~ married to a respectable man (whom her family members only think she married because she "settled" at a young age) with a good job. What could go wrong?

When a box of chocolate truffles caused her husband, Garv, to say something that enlightened her to the realization that her husband was cheating on her, Maggie's adventures to self-realization has only just begun. After staying with her parents moping for a few months, Maggie decided to mope in L.A. What could go wrong there? She's with her best friend Emma, there's the sunshine and the beach close by and maybe men to keep Maggie's mind off her failed marriage. And what a fun and sometimes riotous adventure!!

Maggie tried to downplay her "straight" image only to rediscover that she cannot change who she is. She runs into an old flame and secrets from her past tumbles forth. Maggie has to make a decision ~~ a decision that could affect the rest of her life.

Marian Keyes writes like she knows you. Out of all the Walsh's sisters, Maggie is the one I most identify with. And Marian does a wonderfully good job of bringing Maggie to life ~~ it makes one gasp and say, I know her! This is me!! And while writing so realistically sometimes, Keyes also takes you away from your daily life for a few moments. I couldn't even put the book down in the doctor's office ~~ and my husband was sitting next to me! And like usual, Marian writes with her own flair that you'd recognize anywhere. She's definitely one of my favorite authors and one to keep. She doesn't have a formula writing style yet ~~ like a lot of those contemporary authors do ~~ which is why she keeps you on your toes while reading this! Don't hesitate to pick up this newest one ~~ it'll be worth your while!

Summary: Thank You!!
Review: I want to thank the author, I absoulutly loved the book. The characters were beleivable, and the reader is easily able to feel and see what the characters are going through. This book helped me through a break up, and helped me to move on. This is a great read for those who need to rememeber that life will move on. I love how when you read the book, (if you have read other novels by this author), you already know some of the characters, and those that you don't you start to love instantly. Pick it up, give it a read.

Summary: Really Not Her Best
Review: It's just so, so, so dull! Don't do it. Poke your eyes out with the nearest kitchen utensil if you have to.

Nothing happens - really nothing at all.

Other books by the same author are great for a holiday (vacation) read (perhaps because they actually have a story line) e.g. Rachel's Holiday, Lucy Sullivan and I recommend The Other Side of the Story.

Summary: Wanting More!
Review: Marian Keyes has a way of engaging you and making you feel so connected with characters, you never want to leave the world of your book and have to face "the real world". After I read Rachel's Holiday I thought (much in the same as after Watermelon) "I will never love another Keyes character as much as Rachel", but Keyes somehow always proves me wrong.
Angels is a perfect example. From the very start Keyes builds your relationship with Maggie, and by the end of her journey you feel like a long lost sister. When she first sets foot in LA she makes you feel exactly what Maggie is feeling. That was way Angels was such a joy to read! Although perhaps not as laugh out loud funny as Keyes' other triumphs, Angels still has it's own quirkes and charms that will definitely leave you, as it has me, wanting more!

Summary: Touching and Funny
Review: I usually read genre fiction, like science fiction, fantasy, and romance. But even though I'm not normally one for mainstream, "chick-lit" novels, I found this one to be really quite good. The main character was interesting and complex, and I was moved by her journey of emotional healing. Also, the "fish-out-of-water" aspect of an Irish woman coping with life in L.A. was just downright hilarious! This book was moving and funny by turns, and sometimes simultaneously. Highly recommended.

Summary: Not Marian Keyes' best effort!
Review: I have read all of Marian Keyes' novels and would give them all 4 to 5 stars for enjoyability, but this novel just did NOT grab me at all. I found it boring and didn't think it accurately described Americans. I enjoy her novels for their escapism into London and Dublin life...this just made me want to finish it so I could continue my claim that I'd read them all. Dear readers, PLEASE don't choose this as your first Marian Keyes read. Try reading them in order of publication...she is truly talented and funny in her other efforts, this one just fell short in my opinion.

Summary: Hysterical
Review: A friend lent me this book so that I'd have reading material for my trip to Hawaii. I started reading it on the plane and laughed out loud so hard that a passenger seated in the next aisle asked me what I was reading because 'she had never heard someone enjoy a book so much'! I finished it before our vacation was over so I made my husband stop at a bookstore enroute to the airport so that I could buy another for the trip home (I bought "Watermelon" and "Rachel's Holiday" to complete the Walsh Family Trilogy). I have since read "Lucy Sullivan Gets Married", "Last Chance Saloon", "Sushi for Beginners", and her recent release, "The Other Side of the Story" and have enjoyed them all. Marian Keyes is not only witty and entertaining, but her books touch on subjects that many can relate to, expressing them in way that can make you laugh and touch your heart all at the same time. I've never enjoyed an author so much and am completely hooked. Must be the Irish-American in me!

Summary: Great characterization, lovely story!
Review: Whenever an author writes more than one book, there's the inevitable comparison to the others. However, I thought this book was fabulously written and charmingly witty. And it stands on its own. Granted, I haven't read Rachael's Holiday (but I will because I loved this one!) I loved the character being compared to plain yogurt at room temperature. Which of us hasn't felt that way? And doesn't that one sentence tell you a mint of information? Marian Keyes deserves her kudos for a fabulous book. I can't wait to read more.
