Summary: As good as a vacation
Review: Marian Keyes' ANGELS is the best kind of beach read -- funny, loving, and ultimately respectful of all its characters. Maggie Walsh comes to Los Angeles for all the reasons that most of us come to Los Angeles -- our hearts are broken and we can't think of what comes next, and joining the Foreign Legion is not an option. Her L.A. adventure rings true, and she gets the happy ending we all deserve. Hurray!

Summary: Come back Marian Keyes
Review: Oh, how I so wanted to like this book. Going back to her roots with the Walsh sisters stars of 'Watermelon' and 'Rachel's Holiday' and writing in the first person again - I thought that my favourite author may be back on track. But this installment just covered old ground. The beginning was like 'Watermelon' - how it feels to break up with a husband and running home to your parents, the middle a confusion of unbelievable friends doing bizarre and not very interesting things like 'Sushi for Beginners' and then the end, trying to be like 'Rachel's Holiday' but without the gorgeous Luke in it.
I guess its true, even great authors only have a few good books in them. With Marian Keyes, the first three were exceptional and so I recommend them without hesitation. I'm afraid the rest will only ever be average chick-lit stuff. Still, I can't thank Marian enough for writing my favourite book of all time 'Rachel's Holiday' so I guess I'll just go and read that again instead!

Summary: Immensely Enjoyable
Review: I have read many of Marian Keyes' earlier novels, and I enjoyed all of them. ANGELS is no exception to this rule; in fact, I liked it the best of the Keyes books. Ms. Keyes is a marvelous writer.

She has been blessed with a wonderful ear for voices. Her descriptions of Los Angeles, its pretensions and affectations, all are particularly hilarious. Since I lived in LA briefly myself, I know how accurate Keyes has been in capturing its rhythms.

Unlike so many women's novels, ANGELS does not rely on heavyhanded foreshadowing. Many of the motivating incidents are revealed to the reader unceremoniously, and even the ending is a surprise. As a reader, I found these techniques a refreshing change from the norm, a change which made for an unusally rich reading experience.

ANGELS is a funny and believable novel.

Summary: Another treat from Marian Keyes
Review: Marian Keyes is the best! She has given us several fabulous, funny novels in the last few years (even releasing them in the UK and US at different times to keep us on our toes) and her latest is a speedy, enjoyable read as well.

Maggie Walsh is an unhappy wife living in Dublin, Ireland. Maggie has just discovered her husband has been unfaithful AND gets the sack from her bad job; her crazy family (characters we met in 'Watermelon' and 'Rachel's Holiday') is no comfort so she decides to take some downtime in Los Angeles with her best friend Emily who lives there, working as a screenwriter. Maggie is a bit different from the rest of Keyes' past characters; instead of just dabbling in illicit drugs, booze and sex, Keyes introduces some different plots. We see some bondage, a bit of lesbianism, venereal disease and abortion. Plus, there are not just perfect guys in this story...there a few jerks too. Maggie totally immerses herself in the LA Scene and tries out quite a few new things. All this with a happy ending to boot! I was so happy when I finished this but now I am sad b/c I have no more unread Marian Keyes books.

Oh well, I'll just have to re-read 'Rachel's Holiday' again!

Summary: Outlasts Milk
Review: Rita Rudner is quoted as having said "In Hollywood a marriage is a success if it outlasts milk."

Maggie Walsh is known to her family and friends as plain vanilla yogurt. At room temperature, no less. Of the five Walsh sisters she is the only well-behaved one (as far as people know). Having married her first boyfriend and landed a paralegal job that was "as glamorous as a cold sore," she is known to be the steady, dull one. So it comes as a great shock when she leaves her husband of nine years, loses her job, and takes off from Ireland for Los Angeles to stay with her screenwriter friend Emily. It isn't long before she discovers that culture shock is the least of her problems in the land of dissolving marriages, movie extras, plastic surgery, and casual sex.

Angels is a book full of joy and sadness, artistry and humor. There is a story underneath a story underneath a story here, and Marian Keyes works simultaneously both forward and backward from the break-up to lead the reader to the story's surprising conclusion. I read it, laughing out loud in parts, and thoroughly enjoyed what I thought was a well-written light read. But the last third of the book sandbagged me with its unexpected depths. By the end it becomes clear that if Maggie Walsh is vanilla yogurt, it is yogurt with raspberries buried underneath the surface. One last thought: this book must have been fun to write, because it sure was a blast to read. Definitely worth 5 s tars.

Summary: You can wait. Trust me.
Review: You'll be innocently browsing in a bookstore (virtual or otherwise) when suddenly, the new Marian Keyes novel will catch you out of left field. The cover will glow and wink at you enticingly, saying "Go on, blow the budget - buy the hardcover, leave work early today & binge read till midnight - you know you want to". But be warned. This novel lacks the wit, charm and unforced pathos of Keyes' earlier work (in particular Watermelon and Rachel's Holiday). Wait for the small paperback or buy it used.

Summary: Great summer read!
Review: Love, love, love the Walsh clan and thoroughly enjoyed this latest effort from Ms. Keyes! It's so easy to relate to the (mis)adventures of Maggie as she contemplates her life while visiting L.A. I strongly recommend this book to those who've ever questioned true love and/or the sanity of one's own family!

Summary: Oops! Marian Keyes does it again........
Review: Angels is the latest installment in the sagas of the Walsh family. Many of her novels are about the Walsh daughters. This one is about Maggie. Maggie's in her early thirties and her marriage is in shambles, she finds out her husband is cheating on her and flees Ireland to stay with a friend in Los Angeles. Most women will enjoy this novel and be able to relate to Maggie's emotions and life complications.
Although the book is well written & entertaining, I would recommend Last Chance Saloon or Watermelon (also by Marian Keyes) for a superior reading experience.....

Summary: Love those Walsh sisters
Review: This book delivered all that I've come to expect from Marian Keyes, and more. I heard her read from this one on her author tour in the States and did not think she could possibly keep the momentum of the quirky Walsh sisters going. But has she ever!

This is the story of Margaret, the white sheep of the Walsh clan. Never having done anything wrong in her life, she suddenly leaves her husband (which was warranted) and takes of for LA to stay with her best friend. Considering herself single again, Margaret must re-examine herself, and forage an identity in her new life. Well, lets just say she goes through lots of explorations in determining who she is.

Funny, real and someone anyone can relate to (as I think all the Walsh girls are) Margaret learns so much about herself and people in the flashy world of Los Angeles. Of course family Walsh comes to LA for a visit providing us with lots of laughs as well.

The chapters shift between Margaret's past that led her to leave Garv (the husband) and the present. The relationship between Margaret and her best friend is developed beautifully -- and the way Marian creates life in LA is a riot!

I hope Marian Keyes continues to write about the Walsh girls, revisiting them in various stages of their lives. They are the most "real" and fun cast of characters I've encountered in fiction in a long time. I love these books and recommend them highly for a feel good, fun read.

Summary: Another great from the Irish genius!!
Review: I think Marian Keyes is my hero! I wish she would release a book every week!
When Dubliner Maggie catches her husband cheating, her world is thrown into despair, even though she saw that the end was nigh before it happened. Cue a 'mad' decision to try LA for a while with her best friend, Emily, a few unexpected revelations about her past, more crazy happenings and , ultimately a happy ending.
Any writer who can make me sympathize with a cheating husband, is pure genius. READ THIS AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!
