Rating: Summary: A Great Read! Review: K'wan, I have to give it to you. Being a die hard Donald Goines' fan, I didn't think I would find another author who could keep my interest as you did. Too many of these modern-day street/gangsta books are too cotton-candy like and bubble gum-ish for me. I must admit, while I did anticipate the ending mid-way, I enjoyed reading the sequence of events leading up to the conclusion, which still rang realistically. This book gave me a gritty first look into the mad world of gangs and really opened my eyes. I could easily see this one as a movie, the characters and scenes were so real and vivid.
Rating: Summary: Stop Bashing---This Book Deserves A Chance!! Review: I've read the numerous Amazon reviews on this novel and I agree with the majority that the editors just weren't on their jobs as far as checking grammatical errors and typos. Come on TCP, step your editing game up. With that said, some of you previous reviewers may want to keep your day jobs because your spelling and grammar is not that much better!! Note to some: Stop shouting and turn your CAPS LOCK key off!! No one wants to read a review in all caps. Some of you act like you didn't know what this book would be about, the title should have given you a clue. Why were you so surprised? For those who knew the storyline but just didn't like the book, you're entitled to your opinion. I apologize for making this review my personal forum but I don't think this novel is being given a fair shake. I made the mistake of reading Gangsta after I read Road Dawgz so I didn't expect the writing to be as good. An author should improve as he or she goes along, so I wasn't too disappointed with Gangsta as a first novel. It is a very good urban tale set in modern times. Yeah, the characters may be cliche' and the ending predictable but so what!! How many gang banging, dope dealers do you know that have happy endings? Weren't Donald Goines' characters in his novels predictable? I still love his work no less. Lou-loc had heart even though he was on the wrong side of the law. He did cry a little bit too much for my taste but K'wan always shows his characters' vulnerabilities. K'wan also makes sure to put positive points in his novels as well as speak on how our young black men can fall so easily into street life. Bottom line, if you like street tales, you'll like this book. And if you like this book then go cop (translation: "buy" for those that may not know) Road Dawgz, you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Too Late Review: Gangsta was a pretty good book. I just took a star away from the Cali way of talking, it was just a little too much for me, I ain't knocking it though. This story is about playing the game of the streets and paying the consequences. When you realize its wrong and you need to get out, you realize it a little too late. What I definitely liked about the story was how is showed the main character Lou-loc. He was very smart, but he fell prey to the streets and a dumb-a-- broad by the name of Martina, who was straight playing him out from the beginning, got pregnant from by the next man and the whole nine. She was one of the haters that initiated his downfall but she got hers in the end. Like the book says....ALL DEBTS PAID!! Later!!!!

Rating: Summary: Gangsta Review: This book is da bomb. I couldn't put it down. I love the characters and the story line. K'Wan keep putting out hits like this one. Excellent!!!!
Rating: Summary: Hmmm... could use some work Review: Granted, the story itself was good... it definitely had its' strong points, but as an avid reader of books (avg. 2-3 books a week) I was tempted to put it down just because the editing was so bad. The only thing that kept me reading was the fact that I wanted to see how it would end. I wouldn't say this is the worst book I've read in terms of storylines (although the character storyline was a little predictable), but the editing was TERRIBLE. I would highly recommend Crown Publishing Company to hire some better editors before final release to the public. Good first effort for K'wan though!
