Rating: Summary: Christian nation? Review: You'll concede that (a) the U.S.A., in which amazon.com is chartered, maintains a separation of church and state; and (b) the internet is an international forum. Stop being so provincial and keep your bowdlerization to yourself. Do you burn books, too?
Rating: Summary: Impressive. Review: I thought over the book after I read it, and I realized the dialogue wasn't the greatest, but I learned to respect all the book afterwards. Before, while I was reading it, I thought it was stupid, I'll admit, but even before that, I thought it was some sort of a father's book, since it was him and his favorite books that got me into buying it from here. I thought it was very well written.
Rating: Summary: This book did not even deserve one star!!!!!! Review: This "novel" was the worst "piece of literature" I have ever read. If you can spare yourself from the agony of reading a hundred or so pages about an old man and a fish, than do so. This book brought the worst period of my life to a dramatic climax. I was more miserable reading this book than when my wife divorced me and my parents disowned me. I now have no one but at least I don't have to read this book anymore. Thank you god.
Rating: Summary: Clean up the reviews!!! Review: This is not a review of this book. I simply wanted to say that I do not appreciate the crude language that some people include in their reviews. Amazon.com obviously does not pay attention like they say they do. Please, clean up the reviews! The morals of our so-called "Christian" nation have taught children nothing. If you don't like the book, please say so with respect. Nobody pays any attention to the opinions of someone too childish to not be crude and nasty. Thanks for listening, I'm sure this book is excellent!
Rating: Summary: I wish I could have understood it. Review: I am not sure if I would have liked it because I didn't really understand. I am not interested in the sea or fish. I don't want to criticize it because I didn't understand it but bits & pieces.
Rating: Summary: Struggle between a man and the sea Review: "The Old man and the Sea," by Ernest Hemingway, is about a man who dreams about lions and sleeps on newspapers. His life is devoted to being a fisherman, and the book takes place mostly at sea. The Old Man dosen't have a name and is descibed as a strong person with the dedication and the will to hold on to a fish that he hooked that swims farther out to sea. This book has a lot of detail and builds pictures of the ocean's surroundings not only above the sea, but under the sea. Setting comes from the descriptions of the fish and the sea as the days turn from light to dark. The Old Man is alone and he descibes out loud his thoughts of how he knows where he is.
Rating: Summary: This is a stellar novel. Review: I first read Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea when I was a freshman in high school. I still read it. I have gone through about three copies of it (when there is no room left on the pages to right notes, I purchase a new copy). Hemingway writes dialogues that sit right with me. That is how I am capable of describing it. I love the book.
Rating: Summary: In a word, Gripping Review: Hemingway was brief and I will be as well. The purity and determination of the old man is gripping and touching. He boats the big one with his bare, bloody hands. It's his most glorious moment, and we have the opportunity to share in it and incorporate it into our lives. Sitting on a loung chair facing the ocean, this novel of immense proportion can not be put down. Thank you Ernest.
Rating: Summary: A demonstration of an old man's desire to catch a fish Review: Overall I thought that the book was a little bit boring. But what I really liked about the book was how an old man was determined to(catch a fish) acheive his goal no matter what obstacles he has to overcome. Before arriving back at the town the old man wonders if catching the fish was worth it because of all the trouble he went through but he has accomplished his goal that he once thought was impossible. And at the very end of the novel when the boy is laying beside the old man is dreaming about the lions(he has accomplished his goal and he is a happy man)
Rating: Summary: This was a great book! Review: I thought that this was a great book. It was a story of an old man who had great perseverance and determination. He never gave up hope no matter what the circumstances. I recommend this book to everyone, so they can experience the book themselves.
