Summary: Over the top and unbelievable
Review: Bad Girlz really turned me off. This is the 2nd book I read by Mr. Holmes, and it's not that the story is so bad, it's that they are so unbelievable. Everything in the story is just too much, always some male that rapes the young girl, she then "does what she has to do" to make it. Okay I'll give it that. But I can't believe how absolutely ridiculous some of the sex scenes were (quite gratuitious, and basically nasty for no reason), always over the top on what everyone was doing. And then Kat, what was she doing wandering around in bus stations and what not finding these girls? It's all too convenient, and her being a pimpette or whatever, and no one really saying anything. That's not to say this doesn't happen, but the 3 characters are not portrayed that way. The seem like people hard on their luck, but not completely stupid. I think my overall issue is that Mr. Holmes tries to take every possible situation and stick it in one book, within the first 100 pages. Slow it down, give some character development (real) and don't try to take everything over the top. The designer clothes, superfly rides, all that...yep it's in the ghetto, that's what we usually do with our money. But these girls are making $1500 a week, they can't buy D&G clothing, Prada bags, Gucci this and that. One scene they bought about 8 designers for only $1500, please. I'm college eduacated and make more than $1500 a week and even I can't do that! That's what I mean by over the top...it's not that it can't be done, it's that Mr. Holmes tries to flash everything without consistency or reality. I admire that he has come this far with his books, the whole ebonics thing works my last nerve. I would love to see him progress, but if this is what he's offering, I'll have to take a pass and support brothers and sisters that are actually writing about something that makes sense.

Summary: Not satisified...
Review: The problem with this book, is that a man has written a story about a girl.. He can't tell her feelings, and that's exactly what I missed in this book. In the beginning it happens a lot of things to fast, he should have told more around those things. Like the rape and the mother leaving her. Besides that it was an OK book.

Summary: Money Can Make U Go Crazy!!!!!!
Review:
Just think about being beaten by your mother for something you did not do and then raped by her boyfriend while he put you under the influence of Angel Dust, and not having anyone to turn too because your mother think it's all you fault and she leave one day when you at school and you come home and all you see is you clothes and stuff and the rest of the house is empty.

This is the story of Tender, which is Latonya, a young girl who was abandoned by her own mother to fend for herself in the Badlands, one of the grittiest AND CRAZY communities in Philly. After coming to an empty home, Tender has to fend for herself she have no where to go and she is left to sell her body into she meet this girl name Kat, a veteran stripper and hustler, who tender though was so nice and wonderful and had took a girl name Goldie that was in the same situation as her. When it all comes down and they notice what's really going on. Tender and Goldie finally come to reality and find out that Kat is really just using them. This book will have you thinking do you really have friend or do you not????

Summary: Bad Girlz Was BAD!
Review: I just finished reading "Bad Girlz" minutes ago. I could not put it down. I am suprised that a man can get so "up into" the heads of strippers. Especially because they make it a point to keep everybody out of their heads. There is a message in this book, and I think it should be considered required reading for mature men.

The characters depicted are dead on, and so are the places. At times, I expect that the story-line may sound simplistic even implausable to rational adults. But having met some of these girls up close and personal, I found them terribly naive, short sighted, and extremely disingenuous -- magnets to the dark "dramas" of life. And to those of you who haven't been there, when they are not "fronting", they really do talk like Shannon writes.

As to my reading credentials, I'm a "Digital Fortress" and Clive Cussler kind of reader, over fifty, and usually find ethnic novels to cliche finish.

Summary: From The acknowledgments....
Review: Which includes the mention of the writer securing a "six figure deal" to the abuse of ebonics, unoriginal story line, underdeveloped characters, predictable outcomes and typical scenarios, I must say this was not my idea of an entertaining read. I feel Mr. Holmes may become a bit more profound as time goes on but for now all I see is the typical and redundant stories about growing up down on your luck, in the inner city doing what you must to survive, always illegal of course. This is not a guide for a teenager gone astray, if anything, with all the mention of "fly gear" "fly whips," etc. It may actually be appealing to a young vulnerable girl. This story is not new, and to be blunt I am fairly tired of new authors being repetitive, bring something intriguing, bold, unexpected to the table.

Summary: Who Wants To Be A Playah?
Review: This was a good novel but it's the same story as all of the other urban fiction titles out there. If you want to read a spectatular novel that holds its own, then you should read LUST OF THE FLESH by Beverly Roylat. This novel is truly a pageturner that will leave you on the edge of your seat. It's unpredictable and frankly the best novel I've read in a long time. There are a lot of AA novels out there, but LUST OF THE FLESH stands out from them all. You'll enjoy it.

Summary: Good Book, but almost too predictable..
Review: This was a good book, but was almost too predictible. I sometimes felt as if I was watching "Players Club" all over again, only without the comedy.

I did like the way Tender's character was portrayed. I loved that she did what she had to do in order to survive in her mind. She went through some hard times and had a hard knock life. Her mother was a pittaful soul, who deserved to be slapped. Her mother is a disgrace to mothers everywhere. I won't give away Tender's story or her struggles, but just know she had it bad.

Goldie, was a poor lost soul. I know some girls like her from around the way. Too bad she was such a follower, and never a leader, or she could have become a better person. Goldie just had too many "demons" to deal with.

Kat just needed Jesus.. She was a mother's worst nightmare in the flesh. She used and abused young teenage girls until she got what she wanted. She preyed on the needy, and those with self esteem issues, just so she could use and abuse them for her own greed. I loved to hate her character. She was definitely a trip and made the book worth the read.

Mr. Holmes is one of my favorite authors, but this book is NOT is best. It was not very original, and at times very predictible. However, it was a good read. I would recommend it to others, especially since I know Mr. Holmes is very talented.

I will continue to read other books by this author, solely based on "B More Careful". I love that book, and continue to recommend it to all my friends today.
