Rating: Summary: Not so good Review: I wasn't too thrilled with this book. The story was boring until the last 30 or so pages. It felt like something was missing, better luck next time.
Rating: Summary: Life Review: The truth of living a hard life as a woman: Shannon Holmes novel Bad Girlz says it all. He takes you in the life of three woman that all have something in common...pretty faces, tight bodies, and a major need for survival. Although these girls differ they are all struggling trying to make it. Kat, Goldie, and Tonya find a life of survival on the strip scene. The need for money only brought them a higher need for money. Never in their wildest dreams would they realize the potential their bodies could make. Kat, raised by a mother that was no stranger to the streets led her to follow in her mother footsteps; wanting to live above her means. Kat was coldhearted but strong-minded, she realized early on in life that she didn't need a pimp. She knew that she wasn't laying on her back giving her all up to strangers to take care of someone else. She found more pride in her self than that, yet she preyed upon the weak. Kat was out on the prowl always looking for a pretty face and the right body. Yes, she was a pimpstress, slick and cunning, she was hell on hills. Goldie, a Latina girl brought up by her immigrant mother had no family after devastation took her mother away. Living on the streets was tough for this young girl until Kat saved her. Goldie, always trying to run from her past found a love in money. She knew there was no such thing as survival with out finance. For Goldie life only got worse, she continued to fight for survival until she had no fight left. She was spiritual in her own way but not even that could keep her from the drugs she used to exonerate her soul from pain. Tonya the youngest of the young, fresh and ripe was thrown into a life of hell. She had no choice than to turn to the streets. Her mother's live in had raped her and her mother turned her back on her. She tried to turn to family members but her mother made it sound as if it was all Tonya's fault. Family members weren't willing to take the risk of a young very developed girl in their house around their men. Tonya's main purpose was to use her body as a stepping-stone. Shannon Holmes does a wonderful job of bring the strip club and placing it in your hands. Once you get passed the dialect that the characters use you have the real deal of highs and lows of the day and a life of a whore. For all the young girls of the ghetto I would say this is a must read, to keep you focus of what a rough life the streets have to offer. Stacy
Rating: Summary: good read Review: This was a good book. It could have been great if it had lasted a little longer. I found it to be too short. Bad Girlz could have told some more of their experiences and or more characthers.

Rating: Summary: How could you put a price on something that's priceless Review: SEX MONEY MURDER SURVIVAL.........PRICELESS
This isn't a fairy tale where the girls grow up and turn into the princess of the ball like Cinderella, and these dates their doing sure aren't Prince Charming. When home hasn't been what you needed in order to accomodate then what's left? C-I-R-C-U-M-S-T-A-N-C-E-S
Our 3 renegades lead by Kat, the veteran of them who teaches them stripping 101 as your only way for eating in these mean streets. A natural born stripper Kat is taught to lead early and with her mouth she's able to guide them to where she wants them. Tender & Goldie both products of left behind with tragic stories of physical and sexual abuse, find themselves out on their own doing whatever to make it. Wide eye naivete will take them to new heights where they mistake greed for friendship. This would cost considerably but that's the crash course in the streets. Shannon, I like how God was present in this story. It's important that people realize regardless as to what the situation is He's always there!
Rating: Summary: Not for everyone Review: I could not get past the stilted "ebonics" in this book. While it is indeed a reality that some folks speak this way, I feel that Mr. Holmes could have portrayed the essence of that without actually mispelling the words...it made the dialogue seem fake and forced. Also, the sex in the book was particularly gratuitous, giving the novel a pornographic feel...there are more subtle and powerful ways to portray things other than graphic descriptions. It was difficult to feel anything for the chracters because of the dialogue and Mr. Holmes' penchant for graphically describing every sex scene. It was a worthwhile and necessary story to tell but could have been told in a different manner.
Rating: Summary: Best book so far Review: This book was so good. I enjoyed every minute of it. The characters all had a story. Kat was a mean spirited gold digger and Holmes did good in making you hate her. Tender changed a lot through out the book living her life you proably would too. Finally goldie she seemed a little two-faced in the beginning towards Kat but she was only trying to help Tender see the truth this book is really good a must read.
Rating: Summary: Don't Knock The Hustle Review: Don't let me to be the one to knock Shannon Holmes hustle. But there were a few things about "Bad Girlz" that annoyed me to the core. The constant use of words such as "wit, dat, fo, da, fa, ya, and iz" frustrated me. It really gave the reader the impression that no one in the book had an education beyond sixth grade. Heck, I know sixth graders who don't use such poor English. Perhaps the author was really trying to give the book a "street" feel. I have lived in the inner city of Los Angeles and the South Side of Chicago and I didn't even know so many people who talked so bad. On top of that, the book did kind of make me think that this was a continutation of "Players Club." Kat reminded me of an extention of Ronnie from "Players Club." Also, one thing kind of confused me about the book, it took me a minute to make the connection between Gloria and Goldie. I am a writer also, and I'm also an educator. If Holmes ghetto-fabulous books can inspire this younger generation to read, than more power to him. As for an educated person like myself, I almost needed an Ebonics dictionary to finish the book. The book was way drama filled and a bit over the top, but entertaining.
Rating: Summary: The BOMB!!! Review: I read B-More Careful and was craving another book by Shannon Holmes, and I must say that I was not disappointed. Bad Girlz gave a detailed and very precise look into the days and life in dier straights.
Rating: Summary: Too much information Review: Please people stop giving away so much of the story in your reviews. I have not read the book yet. I was hoping I could get a few opinions before buying the book but everyone seems to be giving away so much of the plot. Thank You
