Rating: Summary: FAST PACED, GOOD START, BUT FIZZLES WITH LITTLE SUBSTANCE! Review: EXTREMELY FASTED PACED AND EASY TO READ, BUT NOT MUCH ELSE. GREAT FOR THE BEACH OR A PLANE.
Rating: Summary: A quiet page-turner which took my mind off my sore throat ! Review: I thought Patterson's earlier books like "Kiss the Girls" was one of the best thrillers I had ever read. I read them all PD James, Cornwall, Connelly and others. I found this book to be different, interesting and just enough fantasy to be intriquing. Sometimes you need a twist on the genre to suprise the reader. I recommend the book without hesitation.
Rating: Summary: Zoom into the Mystery Review: Though the main plot apperas to be childish(Like a eleven year old flying with the wings).....nevertheless this book is a pageturner. The first 50 to 60 pages leaves you a bit confused with the fast paced happenings but once the story gets into rhythm it completely grips you until you finish the last page.Don't miss this book..looking forward to the next book by james patterson.
Rating: Summary: An interesting book you wish you didn't like so much. Review: Yes, the book is a bit too far fetched, and yes, it did remind me of a fairy tale, but so what?!! I have to admit that I couldn't put the book down even though I like to think that as an adult I should be reading something far more intelligent. My point is that I haven't read a book faster in my life (6 hours!) and if the author is skillful enough to keep me interested in this fairy tale, then there is no point in arguing that the book was too simplistic and far fetched. Isn't that the point of fiction?
Rating: Summary: The cover should have carried a warning label. Review: Like many other disappointed readers, I purchased the book based on the fact that Patterson wrote it. It carried the same children's verse title as did Kiss the Girls, Cat & Mouse, etc. I fully expected another Alex Cross thriller. If the publisher had not packaged the book in the same manner as other Cross novels, I might not have purchased it. If Patterson was attempting to write a bio-tech thriller, he failed miserably. My impression of the book is a that it is a children's novel that includes sexual attraction, and ultimate consumation between Frannie and Kit. Patterson should have omitted all adult situations, and the publisher should have marketed the book for children instead of counting on the "accidental" purchasing by Alex Cross fans. The book should have carried the following warning label: "CAUTION: THIS BOOK IS ATYPICAL JAMES PATTERSON - IT'S AN ADULT BIO-THRILLER, CHILDREN'S FANTASY, ROMANCE NOVEL."
Rating: Summary: A Waste of Money Review: When I purchase a book I like to be entertained. I am usually a fan of Patterson's work, but this book was a big disappointment. I finished the book in just a few hours over two days. I guess it was entertaining enough, but the depth in this book just wasn't there...as it has been in his previous novels. It seemed to be written for another type of audience, maybe ten-year-olds?
Rating: Summary: I was hooked from page 1... Review: This was truly one of the most interesting books I've read in a long time. I absolutely loved it. I am a very big James Patterson fan, and love his Alex Cross series, but this was a wonderful, unexpected change.
Rating: Summary: Good Story Review: I, too, enjoy the Alex Cross books--and when I read the back of this book nowhere did it mention Alex's name--So I kind of figured this wasnt going to be an Alex Cross mystery and took it for what it was. Why is everyone whining for Alex when they know he's not in the book. Get over it. I thought this book was a refreshing change and I enjoyed every page. The characters are fun and not too deep. James Patterson writes good stories and thats it.
Rating: Summary: Not deserving of all the hype Review: I really enjoyed Mr. Patterson's series featuring Alex Cross, so I was quite excited when I found this book at the library. I've been hearing about it since December (including the television and radio ads). According to the hype, this book was something truly scary, an edge-of-your-seat thriller. Then I read the book. Instead of being scared, I alternated between amusement and disbelief. Patterson starts off with a good premise: what would happen if a bunch of rogue scientists starting experimenting with cross-species genetics, grafting animal parts onto human tissue. He creates interesting characters in Frannie, Kit and Max--then ruins everything with an unbelievable and unlikely plot. A genetic construct like Max is indeed possible, but then Patterson lets the ball drop, favoring action over substance. According to the author's note, over thirty scientists and medical professionals read and aided in the manuscript. What did these professionals do? Patterson's science is pretty accurate as far as it goes (he throws in buzz-words like "cross-species genetics" and includes such set decoration items as glass pipets and laser spectrographs) but there's very little science in this story. Patterson could have gotten the necessary information from a good biotechnology textbook without wasting the time of those 30 biomedical professionals. If you want a really good (and scary) story of what genetics could make possible, try Nancy Kress' "Beggars" series (especially "Beggars in Spain") or her excellent short story collection, "Beaker's Dozen". Mr. Patterson should stick to mystery and leave the science to real science fiction writers.
Rating: Summary: Even better than I expected Review: I bought this book only because I am a devoted James Petterson fan. I had read negative reviews on this website about When the Wind Blows, so I was not expecting it to be a really great book. I was very mistaken. From page one of this book, I was hooked. It was very different from the other James Patterson books I have read, but it was just as good. I will never again doubt the writing ability of James Patterson. I believe that he could make even the most boring subject or story interesting.
