Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not Bad
Review: It wasn't too bad for a book I had to read for school but it lacked the reality of All Quiet on the Western Front and Henry didn't seem to accomplish anything through the story.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Mediocre Hemingway...
Review: I have to admit that I haven't read much Hemingway; infact, aside from his short stories, I've read only two of his books: The Sun also Rises and A Farewell to Arms. One of these books I adore, the other just annoyed me; lets just say that I love The Sun Also Rises.

A Farewell to Arms, on the other hand, is clunky, especially with regards to the dialog. Many of the descriptions are beautiful, but the fact that this book is heavily dialog based pushes Hemingway's beautiful descriptive prose into the background.

The story itself is alright and typical Hemingway; I think that it would be safe to say that Hemingway wrote one book and spent the rest of his life trying to revise it, A Farewell to Arms being only one revision.

Aside from all of this, this book isn't a bad read. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could, but I just can't bear to give it four.

Summary: Never say farewell to A Farewell To Arms
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a great story about love. Even though I would have prefered a book with a um..... happier ending. I still recommend this to anyone who cares for a tragic love story.

Summary: Amazing piece of work.
Review: I loved this book. It was surely a page turner. I would recommend for everyone to read. It was well worth the time spent.

Summary: Nicely done
Review: I am a sophmore and I read this book for my AP class. I thought it was very good, although my teacher told the class that some students from the previous years detested it. It was very interesting and I really liked his writing style. I would recommend people to read this book and also other books written by Hemingway.

Summary: One of the all time great books? I think not!
Review: I went into this book thinking about how Ernest Hemingway is supposed to be one of the greatest writers who ever lived and set in a time period I love to read about. A Farewell to Arms was a disappointment.

It wasn't all that bad, but in no way, shape or form does it reach the level of one of the all time greats! I could never get any kind of handle on Catherine. Who was she besides some sort of mindless automaton?

I think what disappointed me the most is that the story of two emotionally wounded desperate people enduring and then escaping the horror of WWI has so much potential, but that potential is never fully realized.

Summary: Overrated and Underrated
Review: I found this novel to be neither splendid nor awful. The only other book by Hemingway I'd read before this was The Old Man and the Sea, and, though there's much to appreciate in A Farewell to Arms, I'm not itching to open a third one.(That's with a complete works on my shelf). The best part about this gracefully written book is the cold feeling of desperation it creates. Lack of specifics about the conflict itself juxtaposed with incredibly detailed descriptions of physical space and random closeup moments almost suffocate the reader with the immediate, sudden, and senseless tragedy one faces in wartime. The matter-of-fact tone can at times be chilling. However, the consistently stilted dialogue is surely hard to swallow, and fights the believability of the characters. Overall the book feels padded with unneeded descriptions that don't promise plot, making it a very slow read. While the ending is fairly good, it's an uphill chore to get there. I can't recommend it unless you buy into hype and/or have an extra strong affinity for war novels.

Summary: His Best
Review: Here's another one of those books, like As I Lay Dying, that high school English teachers force upon teenagers. Sorry, kids, you're not ready for it yet. Wait a few years and try again.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: This book was a waste of time and endlessly boring
Review: I'm a junior in high school in an AP English class. (sophmore level college class) It was pointless and I couldn't get past the first 20 pages. What a snooze! Even the cliff notes were dull. I've been online for hour to get some help for my test tomorrow.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: It's a good one!
Review: If you like the Hemingway writing style, this is a great book. I enjoyed the story setting and resolution. Hemingway also has the ability to let you believe you are close friends with every story character. Highly recommended!
