Summary: This book was interesting, but it seemed to drag at times.
Review: "White Noise" by Don DeLillo is about the everyday life of a college professor in a small town in middle America. It gives an intellectual approacch to the little things of the characters life. Although this is interesting at times, there is often too much analysis and gets a bit redundant. Especially the talk of Jack and Babette's fear of death, which occurs throughout the book. After a while, I got very tired of this talk of death and the analysis seemed too much and unnecessary. This makes the book drag and at times I didn't want to read any further because I knew what was coming. DeLillo succeed in making the reader think and that may be enough to make it a book worth reading.

Summary: An interesting view into a family's troubles
Review: White Noise takes an interesting perspective into the somewhat unrealistic events that happen to Jack and his family. I don't believe that these events are quite realistic because how many times does one hear about a toxic cloud or how somebody has to secretly sleep with another person to get a, still experimental, drug that helps to erase the horrid visions of dying. I believe the novel could do a better job in the first section of getting the attention of the reader. I found it somewhat difficult to make it through the random events that make up part one of the novel. Overall I believe White Noise is worth reading at least once and I would recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: White Noise embodided the effect of the media and advertising in America. Although I disagreed with DeLillo's presentation of Americans accepting what they heard on the radio and read in tabloids as the truth, I found the novel comical and a joy to read. In the toxic air event, the radio calls the cloud of Nyodene D a plume. The children don't think it looks like a plume, but they continue to call it a plume until the radio gives the cloud a new name. When Babette reads the tabloid, none of the listeners give any hint of not believing what is being read. I have never heard anyone read a tabloid and not make fun of it.

Summary: White Noise summary
Review: Don Delillo's White Noise is unique and interesting. I found it difficult to focus on at first, but once I discovered the meaning of the novel I appreciated it more. The novel's main theme is about the fear of death. I soon discovered the symbolism and humor in the story, which made it easier to understand and more interesting. Delillo has captured what no other author of the book's I have read has, he has written a book about nothing and about something. The beginning of the book is all dialouge about everyday things that most people face. The second part is all about a toxic airborne event, and the last part deals with Jack's jealous and angry rage, which started because of his wife Babette taking Dylar. This book is very different, but enjoyable.

Summary: There was a differnt style to the writing of "White Noise"
Review: "White Noise" was an interesting book because the problems that each character dealt with were not the termed "normal" problems of today's society. Most people don't have an underlying fear of death that compels them to do outrageous things. Also, not very likely will you see an entire area of a city evacuate because of a cloud. These points made the story a bit hard for me to follow because I couldn't relate to the characters. The book does however keep your attention after the first section. The book finally develops a story line to follow.

Summary: WHITE NOISE: Literature :: Seinfeld : TV?
Review: With very comical situations throughout, laced with characters from who-knows-what-planet and dialogue about "nothing", this novel could easily be split up into several episodes of a successful sitcom. DeLillo uses excellent sensory details, leading to easy visualization. Although most books are better than their movie counterparts, I am willing to bet that WHITE NOISE could be easily translated into an excellent screenplay, and, with proper directing, filmed into a masterpiece. A warning to those who cannot live without a rapidly moving plot: The first third of the novel . . . well, it lacks plot. This is not to say that it is not entertaining, it just doesn'y really go anywhere. That is why I opted for 4 stars instead of 5. But, do yourself a favor anyway and read it.

Summary: White Noise is an an overall enjoyment to read...
Review: White Noise was recently required for a class, as well as this review. I have never enjoyed manditory reading so much. I found the book to be inciteful and entertaining. DeLillo's handle of the media was creative with his use of sporadic advertising outbursts and telivision dialogue. I have already recommended this book to my friends and peers and do so to you as well.

Summary: This book was informative and somewhat interesting
Review: White Noise was an interesting book. However, I never fully understood the plot of the book. I didn't ever see any climax or anything that would grab my attention. The book was alright. I found myself falling asleep at certain points.

Summary: Good interesting book
Review: White Noise is an excellent book to read as it incorporates the various aspects of popular culture and mass media in everyday life. DeLillo does a tremenous job in this novel.

Summary: White Noise exposes the role of technology in today's world.
Review: White Noise is a novel that presents the reader with an understanding of how technology has become so prevelant in our society. It is filled with random phrases and products to help clarify this. I think the novel does a very nice job in explaining the fears of technology and its advances. I could relate to this novel in that respect. Being overwhelmed with the new developments with computers and the internet has affected me in similar ways that it has to the characters in the novel. Overall, I found the book to be very interesting.
