Summary: Time is very complex. Lightman's handling's pure simplicity
Review: For me, the subject of this book--the many theories of how time might work--is one of the most unusual I've ever read. I approched the book with trepidation. Especially after "falling out" of Hawkin's A Short History of Time when I couldn't understand hedrons. It was with great relief that I discovered Lightman uses a series of short stories to illustrate the theories rather than lecturing the reader about them. When I recommend this book to my friends, I always caution them that each story is as rich as a piece of Godiva Chocolate and that they should not be gobbled up all at once. Rather, savor them one by one. The only other thing I can say is read. And enjoy.

Summary: A lovely little mind game
Review: This is a great little book, but I thought I was the only one that had heard of it. It is a treasure for the beautiful images alone, not to mention the ideas that are refreshingly different.

An impressive little book, a fairy tale for scientists.

Summary: GREAT book
Review: This book is so cool! It goes into these almost anectodal stories about time as it would be if certain things were true, i.e., time moved backwards, there was no future, no past, etc. You really have to read it to understand.

Summary: Entracing, mysterious, and wonderful
Review: Lightman's work can barely be called prose -- it truly is poetry! This book will make you think by challenging your reality in the same way dreams do: by pushing the limits of your beliefs and begging the question "What if?" I am by no means a scientist, but I loved the way Lightman lets anyone follow him on his journey, no matter what your level of skill.

Summary: Provocative but over-rated
Review: How many ways can one describe the color of a rose

Summary: Alan Lightman writes a novel about human race
Review: This book portays Einstein's theories on time in the form of journal entries. His theories portray all of the different ways that life could be lived. It is a story of people and a story of time. A definite book that should be read by anyone open-minded enough to understand it.

Summary: this is one of the best books i have read
Review: I had originally bought this book for a friend as a present, but wanting to read it I chose to sit down, the day before giving it to him, to read it. By the time i had read the first story i was blown away. I continued to read, for the next two hours, and fell in love with this book. So many of the worlds described are reflections of many different schools of thought, and worlds in which many of us choose to live. This is definitely a book I will be keeping with me wherever i go.

Summary: an eloquent, thought provoking read
Review: Despite some small continuity issues, "Einstein's Dreams" is a lovely collection of parable-poems. Their strongly visual, textured appeal would easily inspire any student of science and art.

Summary: A Masterpiece!
Review: A series of short meditations on what the world would be like if time were different. Incredibly imaginative and beautifully written. Did you ever read a book that was so special that you felt it deserved to still be read 100 years from now? That's how I felt about this book. I came across this book because a friend enjoyed it so much that he sent me a copy so that I could share the experience. I hope by writing this review, I in turn am able to encourage others to share the same experience.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great Book!!
Review: This book changed the way that I look at my life. I wish that I could thank Lightman personally for his creation.
