Rating: Summary: Very Good book. Review: My accalerated English class (8th grade) has been reading Einstien's Dreams together. It is a very fascinating book for people reading alone or together. In some of our class discussions we get so riled up arguing what would happen to us if time was in a loop or what does this story really mean (etc.) that some of the neighboring teachers have to tell us to be quiet. This is a very good book with lots of room for comment and argument while reading. Even me, (not a sci-fi fan) found this book enjoyable. I hope that other classes and people will get as much fun out of this book as i did!
Rating: Summary: Excellent insight into different dimensions of the universe Review: This is an excellent book that makes you wonder about how time could function. A great work of fiction that I couldn't begin to stop reading once I started.
Rating: Summary: Don't Have Any Time ? Review: Before you say "I have no time" or "Time is going too slow (or fast)" or any other such chronological cliche you should have some notion of what time is. Lightman's book will provide plenty of food for thought when you decide to try and figure out just exactly what time is. Or what it might be, could be , is and probably is not. As an added bonus it is great fun.
Rating: Summary: Worlds within worlds Review: I'm a senior in High School and I read this book for a class. This book is probably the BEST book I have ever read in my whole life. It is thought provoking and beautiful, filled with wonderful images and ideas. Everyone should read this book, at least once a year. It is a meaningful experience perfect for any age, this book is incredible. It is a story within a story, worlds within worlds.
Rating: Summary: A journey through the dreams of a genius. Review: This is the first of Alan Lightman's works I have read, but I know I will read more after reading Einstein's Dreams. Through the dreams, the reader gets different perspectives of time. Every chapter is an adventure. It is hard to stop readin. In fact I read it in one sitting. This is a book for almost all ages, although some of the meaning will be lost to younger readers. I personally read this book for a class, however it is not the typical school reading book they give out. Einstein's Dreams could be classified a masterpiece. This excellent novel is a must read.
Rating: Summary: I Dreamed with Einstien... Review: I absolutely loved this book! The author does a maginificent job tranporting the reader into the mind of a genius. It not only shows how Einstein views time, but how he saw people in their daily lives. The "dreams" are easily understood and can give great impact and meaing to a number of things. For anyone who loves Einstien's one-liners, you will love this book.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful diversion Review: If you want to spend at most two hours and be completely transported out of your daily routine and thought patterns, read this book. You will be forced to think along lines you've never considered. Well worth it.
Rating: Summary: The most amazing book I've ever read!! Review: I have been interested in time since...well, I can't remember. This book is like one of my day dreams. I read it first in 1996, and I've read it once a year since. Lightman personifies time and gives it an amazing essence and romance that I could never even dream of. Time is one of those things we take for granted, unfortunatly. If only more people knew of it's beauty and mystery.... This book actually brought tears to my eyes as I smiled while reading the book. Again, nothing better out there. Amazing!
Rating: Summary: This book made me cry!!!! Review: I heard of this book on NPR and decided to give it a try. I normally do not read novels, but this book is special. It is much closer to poetry than a novel. The images the author paints are so vivid I can bring them to mind long after reading the book. This is the only book I can ever remember making me cry. I literally had tears in my eyes after reading pages 70-74.
Rating: Summary: A whimsical ride through time! Review: This little book was sheer delight, in that it combined whimsical scenarios with profound thoughts. Upon first glance, this book could be cast away as too light but in fact this book contained deep statements that could motivate one into a higher realm of thought. This book was assigned to my university's master-level course in liberal studies so I was forced to read it initially. However, here's one book I'd buy and read on my own and encourage others to do the same. Very introspective. Stops you in your tracks and forces you to re-evaluate your life and how much, or little, time you have left!
