Rating: Summary: Silly, but one I really recomend. Review: I thought some parts were funny, but it is serious and a great book for ww1 lovers.
Rating: Summary: It scared the hell out of me but i really loved it Review: No one really tells you the deepest horrifying moments in war but this book certainly provides that for you. I was at first hesistant to read the book whien it was assigned in my history class but when I got into it I found it soo intersting that I read again . If you haven't read it yet you should because it provides in great detail what the soldiers went through in ww1
Rating: Summary: I loved the book Review: It provides a deep insight into war and makes the whoke book seem funny though it really is a sad story
Rating: Summary: This book was good! Review: All Quiet on the Western Front is a good war novel. I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a WWI novel.
Rating: Summary: Hey all you no-clue teenagers....read this book! Review: I'm a 12th grade high school girl and I read this book to make up a history credit for graduation. It was fascinating to learn what the German boys went through in WWI, and very, very sad. I really didn't have a clue about that war or the Germans prior to reading this book. It was really scary to say the least. If you're a teenage girl like me, you've probably been oblivious to this part of our history. It's something we all need to know. We owe it to all those young men who fought, died and suffered on both sides.
Rating: Summary: The disillusionment of men of war. Review: This is the best book I have ever read. Erich Maria Remarque has written a masterpiece of men of war. This book led to a great movie starring Lew Ayres. Remarque has also written other masterpieces notably Three Comrades, Arch of Triumph, and A Time to Love and a Time to Die. Remarque is truly one of the greats.
Rating: Summary: Quite simply the best war novel ever written Review: This is my favorite book of all time. I've read it so many times, I've almost got it memorized. It isn't a classic for nothing--it truly captures the horror, the devastating sadness, and the complete unpredictability of war. It's very touching, very moving, and very effective in sending a powerful message to the audience. It's not a book for the weak-hearted though. One of those books you can't put down--and you actually learn something from.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book showing the disastrous effects of war. Review: Great, thought provoking work of literature, it is an absolutely incredible book. I read it for school and for myself, I was like a Saving Private Ryan, but better. I watched the movie recenrtly and was disappointed, it needs to be remade. Brilliant work, Remarque is now a favorite author, somewhere under Ayn Rand.
Rating: Summary: The horror! The horror! Review: When I read this book I thought, "Why?" Then I said, "Because." It was all clear to me. This novel defines war, a terrible, horrible, no-good, very-bad thing. And the main characters were Germans! I didn't think it could be done! But some author named Maria actually put these charcters in a book. I was suprised at this novel, because I actually read another book by Remarque. However, it was actually nonfiction. You won't believe me, but it was a cookbook. No, I'm not joking. It actually provided recipes for various dishes to be made while on the front. It was written before All Quiet though. One dish even calls for spilt blood as an ingredient. Between this cookbook, and All Quiet on the Western Front, I am sure that Eric Maria Remarque is the greatest war hero in our planet's grave history. He was also very frugal, as we learn by his methods for using resources in his cookbook. Of course, I would never recommend these dishes to anyone who was not at war, because although sometimes delightful, they are often harsh and disturbing. But I'm just rambling... Erich was a great novelist, as his two books prove.
Rating: Summary: a really good war story Review: I loved this book and I think that it's great that Remarque wrote it in a soldier's point of view instead of an observer or a journalist. By doing so, he allows us to see things a whole new way. This book was very touching in some parts and it tells about the stupidity of war, pitting one man against another of the same kind because he wears a different colored uniform. I am doing this for my book report in 8th grade and even though I can't stand war stories, this is indeed one of the best ones I've ever read.
