Rating: Summary: This book was hard to get into but the end is worth it Review: This book was really hard to get into. Although now that I think about it, all the details were actually a major reason for the book's success, while reading, the details got kind of boring. Details though, everytime I think about the book I think details. The author definately knows how to bring you into his emotions and feelings. If you like detail you'll love this book.
Rating: Summary: A deeper look into war Review: This book gives me a picture of war that I havne't found anywhere else, even in movies. I think the difference is that All Quite on the Western front gives the long story of a soldier's experience from the begining of his service to the end. You can see how his attitude changes along with the war from begining to end. There are points in this book that are great but on the whole the book is booring and goes into too much detail on subjects that don't warrant it.
Rating: Summary: I DON'T LIKE THIS BOOK Review: I don't think that this is the best war book ,the reasons because don't show the war in a really interesting way compare with war book like night or others.
Rating: Summary: Never read this book Review: This book was so bad, I would never consider reading it again. The book was slow and boring, and the reading level is fairly low. Paul was a boring character and there was not much characterization. His friends were much the same and the small adventures they had were the only good parts. There was a lot of violence and it was not very good at keeping your attention.
Rating: Summary: Slow boring book Review: This book was not very good. It digressed to much. The main character, Paul was a flat character with too many thoughts. It was trajic and to vivid in some parts. I would not recommend it.
Rating: Summary: NL-S Approved Book Review: All Quiet on the Western Front is the best WW1 novel that I have ever read. The book provides wonderful insight into the trials and tribulations of a common soldier. This book was very enjoyable to read because Remarques' ability to tell how the people who did the fighting thought and acted. Paul, the main character, is a volunteer soldier who is caught in the midst of war. He tells of how he and his fellow soldiers share the special bond that only they have. They debate over the purpose of war and why they fight. They worry about what this war has done to them, and what they will do when the war ends. The book has graphic depictions of the horror of being on the battlefield. Although it is impossible for me to know that fear, I think the author does an excellent job of helping me picture the people in those situations. There is a frequent theme that war is for the elite returns periodically. The point of view is one of the best things of the book. It shows how gruesome war can be from a German soldier's perspective. It is easy to sympathize with the main character as his closest friends are killed. This book isn't for the squeamish. Men die in many ways, and Remarque describes most of them. The descriptions of being out in the trenches are outstanding. But the book is a classic for a reason, and I think everyone should read it.
Rating: Summary: A Decent Book Review: I really don't see why this is considered such a great novel. It has it's moments, but I really think it was kind of boring. I can understand any praise this book gets, but I found it to be a little bit dull. I don't think that high-school aged kids, such as myself will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: I was supposed to read it for a book report, but I didn't. Review: The summary pretty much says it all. The part that I read was really good. I probably should have read more. I think that the book portrays that war is futile and that we shouldn't fight wars as much as we do.
Rating: Summary: An undeniably honest explanation for a lost generation Review: No choreographed explosions or Hollywood hero-sculpting here. Just the horrific, honest truth which is sometimes told but seldom heeded. Remarque tells the tale of the haunting war of attrition he survived, through lead character Paul Baumer. Like millions of others, Baumer enters war a starry-eyed schoolboy. By the time he realizes the truth about war, he cannot turn back. He is then forced to consider, where does a war-torn soul go after his comrades are dead and there is no more war to fight?
Rating: Summary: All you need to know about war Review: All you need to know about war. Once and for all. No need for Spielbergs hero stories anymore.
