Summary: Excellent book!
Review: While some immature students of literature may think this book boring, it is anything but. Remarque does an excellent job of detailing his experiences in the trenches of long forgotten World War I. Unfortunately, eliments of that war still exist today in Kosovo and other regions of the former Yugoslavia. My hats off to the young surviver named Hasan from Kosovo who explains that Remarque's book is right on target. Remarque's writings are only perceived as boring because we live in America where war has not touched our shores for nearly one hundred and forty years. To Hasan, it is a description of everyday life. I think this book is a must read for every college and high school student and gives good incite into what our own fighting men went through to win us the freedom we enjoy. Oh, and if you are looking for a good description of life during the Holocaust, read Elie Wiesel's "Night."

Summary: Good book
Review: Good book, but not yet 5 start. Although there were good war scenes, details of lives of soldiers on the front line, I still find it to be lack of reality, lack of the real emotional thoughts of the ones who fought. There were some logical thoughts on the reasons for war, authority, death, bonds between family, friends, and strangers. But those ideas weren't psychologically correct (for example, people don't necessarily have to go through war to think that way). My question is how can one think so logically in a situation such as the "great war"? Or how can one even begin to think? For a real good book on emotional impact of war on a soldier I would highly recommend Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried. It's a different war, yet all are the same.

Summary: Shattering and tragic..
Review: After reading both Robert Graves' and Siegfried Sassoon's accounts of life in the British trenchs of the Great War, I found it of immense value to read All Quiet on the Western Front. Reading the three books gives one a nicely rounded account of just how horribly tragic, gruesome and terrifying it must have been to be involved in this war. I can't laud the book enough. However, as a post-script, I would like to say that I really don't think that disgruntled High-Schoolers who were forced to read these, or any other books, should be allowed to post utterly inane reviews here. I know that's not possible, nor would I truly wish it so, however I would like to voice my objections. Once again, I think everyone with an interest in Western "civilisation" should read all three books mentioned, especially All Quiet...

Summary: All Sad On The Western Front
Review: This book tells about the true life of war. It tells how young adults suffer through the pain and death of WW1.

Summary: blaahh
Review: This book had a good writer and all, but way too grusome. I mean I feel sorry for all of the people who had to go through that, but that description made me put the book down. I could not finish reading this novel!

Summary: "all quiet on the western front"
Review: The book signifies the aspect of the fighting man and devotion to ones country over things they do not believe in. The story is well written and explains some very gruesome scenes to give the full sense that nobody wins in wars.

Summary: University of Virginia
Review: An excellent book. Highly recommended by the German Department at the University of Virginia.

Summary: The horrors of the Great War unleashed!
Review: This novel has to be THE best wartime novel of all time. Showing the feelings and viewpoints of the " Huns", this novel shows exactly what pressures were placed upon the shoulders of the worlds young men. Remarque's writings are so realistic that you would be forgiven for thanking that you were not there. This book should become a compulsary reading text for all high schools, for anyone who reads it will benefit in some way.

Summary: Brief synopsis for All Quiet on the Western Front
Review: In Remarque's epic novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, he explores the themes of isolation and survival in World War I. Remarque fought in World War I as a German soldier so he had a good basis for writing this novel. He actually wrote the novel about himself. This is the best novel that I have ever read. If you are one who enjoys war novels, this is definitely a must read. Remarque does an excellent job portraying the horrific conditions soldiers endured during the "Great War."

Summary: This should be on high-school and college reading lists
Review: At first glance, this book may seem like nothing more than a war story. However, it is so much more than that. This is a gripping, heart-wrenching narrative that is actually one of the strongest anti-war statements I have ever come across. The fact that it is told from a German soldier's perspective makes it even more interesting. This book should be required reading for all high-school students.
