Rating: Summary: It changed my life... Review: I first read this book as a sophomore in high school because it was a war book. Society and the media had created within me the idea that war was a glorious, honorable action. I was shocked after reading it. It completely destroyed the glorified image of war and instilled within me a pacifistic attitude that I hope to always have. Please, read this book!
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Classic Review: Never have I read a book quite like this one. It's breath-taking descriptions and brilliant insight makes the reader think about the actions of man. Especially during war. This book is very old, but don't let its age fool you. It is a literary piece that compels any person who reads it. Brilliant!
Rating: Summary: A book everyone should read Review: Reviewing this book is a bit of a tall order, partly because everything I'd ever want to say about it has been said (and said better than I ever could say it), and partly because it is not easy to put into words the effect this book had on me.I first read this book when I was 14 years old, and found it horrifying, gripping, fascinating, and sometimes unbearably sad. Paul Baumer, a young student who enlists along with his whole class upon graduation, goes off to war with an enthusiasm typically found in those unfamiliar with war. He finds out very quickly that he's gotten himself into something so huge and so horrifying, it begs description. Much of the book is his about his struggle to say warm, dry, fed, rested, sane, reasonably optimistic (or at least not desperately pessimistic), and, above all, alive. This book was responsible for kindling my interest in the First World War, a war largely forgotten by most Americans nowadays. But more importantly, it made me understand that war was not John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and Frank Sinatra and the like beatin' up the bad guys, but a serious grave business. (No pun intended) War is the ultimate human endeavor, culmination of many sins, breeding ground of many more, and unleasher of passions that simply cannot be understood, let alone controlled. And it's pretty nasty to boot.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Novel Review: I just felt like reading this book because it had to do with War. The first time I read it I really didn't get it but when I read it a second time it made me feel sad. You also must see the movie(recommend 1930 version) to fufill the experience. The makes you feel why the young people go off to war when their life has only been lived so much.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Novel Review: This book should be required to be read. This book goes more in-depth about war. We see all these anti-war films and you see the horrors of war but you don't see what it is like when they go home and come back. He realizes that civilians think differently about war than the soldiers because they aren't in the war themselves. I own the 1930 version of the movie and I have seen it quite a few times and It has the same impact each time and so does the novel.

Rating: Summary: A wonderful WW I Novel Review: This Novel was well written and made me feel as if I too where along-side the soldiers on the front. The emotion and feelings where emmense, and allowed the reader to get into the head of the characters. Well done, I couldnt put this book down!
Rating: Summary: All Quiet on the Western Front Review: All Quiet on the Western front was one of the best books I have read. It is considered the best war novel ever. Erich Maria Remarque writes so vividly that you feel as though you are actually in the trenches during World War I. He focus mainly on the horrors of the war. He shows that war is not made of honor, but of death, anger, and sadness. The book is sad and depressing but is so well written that you can understand how Remarque sees war and how he based his on experiences of war in his book. I, without doubt, recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: A great war novel! Review: I had picked out this book for a book report/history report I had to do in AP World History on either WWI, the Russian Revolution, or the Industrial Revolution. I wasn't really looking forward to it because I hadn't read any reviews about it and I was expecting it to be a really boring book. As I started reading it however, I realized that it well deserves the title as the greatest WWI novel ever written. It tells the story of war, friendship, and loss through a 20 year old German soldier's eyes. I was crying throughout the whole book, and I rarely do that with books. I enjoyed it tremendously, and highly recommend it!
