Summary: A masterpiece
Review: "All Quiet on the Western Front" deserves a place alongside "The Red Badge of Courage," as perhaps the two best first person military fiction books ever written. Remarque's descriptions of the terrible trench warfare of the Great War is so authentic it is hard to believe that the events did not happen exactly as he desribed them. One can measure the accuracy of this book in the fact that when Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany, this was one of the first books banned by the Nazi regime. No book that vividly portrays the horror of war had a place in Hitler's militaristic Germany. Never preachcy, the book instead uses its simple desciptions to show how war truly is hell.

Summary: Over-rated
Review: This is another book I had to read this summer for my AP English class next year. I truly enjoyed the first--Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston--but this one just didn't do it for me. It was very slow in the beginning, though eventually became I mediocre/decent/tolerable book, but nothing I would recommend. It is the narrative of a WWI soldier and his expierence in the war; the novel, of course, attacks the whole trite and over-used "extreme circumstances cause rapid maturation" theme. The narrative did not flow well as the author jumped from one expierience to another rapidly so as to include as many different types of expieriences one might feel in such a war in the novel--this only managed to irritate me and remind me that I was reading a book. Two biases that may also have led to this book being less appealing to me, but perhaps moreso to other readers are the facts that I hate wars and have no interest in them; the bigest being that I hate the military--particularly the U.S. Military--and this book demonstrated a few of the reasons as to why. Keep that in mind when taking my review into account.

Summary: This book paints a picture in your head in every scene.
Review: I think this book was very interesting and went into a lot of detail to paint a picture in the reader's head. It painted a picture in the reader's head because of the choice of words used, and the very descriptive adjectives. Also with these adjectives the reader can put him/herself in the narrator's or character's shoes. This made the book easy to read and comprehend better, and more importantly, you could picture everything clearly. One main element that i noticed when reading was when Paul, the narrator, would explain what war was like. He would describe in great detail what was going on, how an incident happened, and who was involved. This also helped to understand the text better. This book is best suited for people who are looking for a semi-action book with details about war, because this book is about war and has quite a bit of action.

Summary: Interesting but a little slow
Review: This book was very interesting. It told about how bad war really is. It showed the bad conditions that soldiers had to deal with. The book told about how the soldiers would lose hope, and some would even want to die. I like the story, but I felt it was a little slow and boring at parts. One element that stuck out was the style the book was written in. There were chapters within a chapter. There would be a story and there would be another story in the same chapter. I think this book is best for people in or above high school because there are events that are very descriptive about injures and how the soldiers die. High schoolers understand what war is like, while younger kids wouldn't understand how bad war really is.

Summary: All Quiet on the Western Front
Review: This novel was a great read and anyone who is thinking about it should. It gives such a different perspective from the German Soldiers eyes. This new perspective gives the reader a new way to look at the enemy soldiers. When I read this book, the character development and terror of war were amazing. I suggest this book to everyone.+ALA-

Summary: Th greatest war novel of all time!
Review: Eric Maria Remarque dispelled the notion that fighting in a war is heroic; he also destroyed the muth that there is good or evil in war. In fact, what Remarque is able to show in this remarkable novel is that war is hell. The hospital scences are especial powerfull and the carnage from the war is revolting.

Summary: Absolutely Amazing
Review: They say that every once in a while, a person is deeply affected and touched with a book. This is the case with All Quiet on the Western Front. This book is amazing. It takes you from a boy to a man in 300 pages, during WWI. It takes you from tears to laughs, and most importantly it takes you from fiction to reality. Everyone should read this book and be thankful that they live in a world without war. Absolutely amazing....

Summary: All Quiet on the Western Front
Review: A had conflicting feelings about this book. I found myself bored and often confused by the actual plot of the book. It was hard to follow the general action and characters in this book. On the other hand, I really liked the other aspect of this book, the lessons. The quotes and emotions of the soldiers were amazing. Their insight into life at the beggining and end of the book is a huge and interesting change. The scene where they were all siting around talking and they realized for the first time that this war wasn't a good thing. They also realized how insignificant they were on the big scale. There are many awesome quotes and hidden meanings in this book that are very relevant to any teenager and that is why I enjoyed this book.
