Summary: Best War Book Out There!
Review: No book has ever showed the reader the horrors of war quite like this one has. i recommend it to everyone, even if you don't enjoy reading these types of books, you will be amazed at the details this book gives you as it follows the trails of Paul Baumer. It is a book that should be read to understand that war is more than just two sides of people shooting at each other.

Summary: Great novel about peace found in hell
Review: All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque, is a great anti-war novel written in great detail by a man who fought through the thick of the horror. It is a testimony to the world on the death and destruction wars can cause. The description of the pretty place and benevolent peoples who fought followed by a massacre and destruction gives way to tears and draws your eyes to the many wars that exist today. I love how Paul and Kat seem to make themselves like kings while at the mercy of a great killing machine which literally wipes out an entire generation. Being an animal lover, I was cringing from the descriptions of dying horses, torn apart by shells. Every person in a war-torn nation should read this book because of the universal issues it poses. I loved every minute of the reading, but had to walk away from it a few times to escape from the lengthy descriptions of death.

Summary: Of Course War Is Gruesome
Review: I was assigned to read this book, and though it was a really good book. For those who gave this book a bad rating just because of the descritions, of course the book is going to have bloodshed and gore, it's war!! You shouldn't put down a book just because of that. I thought the Remarque's message was great. This entire novel is about how the wrong people are fighting wars, and what the horrors of war can do to a person's life. There are so many other war stories out there and Remarque did a great job separating his from the others.

Summary: A MASTERPIECE!!!!
Review: This is an awesome book. Erich is splendid. The BEST World War One fiction book out there! The best military fiction book ever! A masterpiece! A showcase of amazing talent and skill. It is geniunely crafted to a good read. It may seem long but maintains short, simple sentences that give you the image of WWI in vivid detail! A must-read for WWI die-hards!! And a must-read for any reader! If books were rated however, I would recommend this only for kids above fifteen (or, in other words, teenagers). Anyway, it is a great read! A GREAT book! 5 stars, definitely!

Summary: A Powerful Story of Innocence Lost
Review: The untimely story written by German author Erich Maria Remarque (pronounced Remark) in 1928 about his experiences during World War I. It is a frightening, violent, poignant, and moving story of seven German schoolboys who volunteer for the war and realize the horror that comes with it.

Our narrator is Paul Baumer, an idealistic youth of 20 who marches along the roads, dives into trenches, and kills the enemy. His friends and comrades in battle are Albert Kropp, Stanislaus Katczinsky, Haie Westhus, Detering, Tjaden, Leer, and Muller. They are the proud, brave few who are sent into battle after battle, eventually bringing them closer to death and destruction. They live through the code of battle - serve your country, protect one another, and live!

The book is filled with many poetic anecdotes which fill the pages with a contrast of beautiful images of peace and the brutal, harsh vision of war. Remarque doesn't spend too much time with mindless description that other writers usually do, but rather he elaborates on a time now lost to us - and to him and his countrymen. It is rare to see author's taking a brief moment to explain what the poplars look like in the summer, or the way the tree sway when the wind blows over the countryside.

We are exposed to the sick and dying side of war, the loss of limbs and disease, and the personal failures of each man. We sympathize with these boys, all of whom are in their 20s (with the exception of Katczinsky, who is in his 40s), these boys who we, as Americans, fought against during this war and eventually World War II. It's that quality that everyone, everywhere, can understand, or hope to understand.

I was impressed with Remarque's style, which made me come to the conclusion that he was also a poet - and a good one at that! I recommend this for everyone of all ages.

Note: ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT was made into a 1930 Best Picture Oscar-winning film by Universal Pictures starring Lew Ayres and Louis Wolheim. It was later made as a TV movie in 1979 with Richard Thomas and Ernest Borgnine.

Summary: We relate through Human Nature.
Review: I read this book in my English class. Usually I'm not one of reading many fiction books but this one was a good one to read. I found at times myself drifting off in the begging. Some parts of the book are hard to catch onto, for instance when he describes certain things about the characters, you don't always know who he's referring to. A lot of the characters have the first letter of their name begin with a "K". Taking tests for this book wasn't easy. Some of the characters have a couple of nicknames and that can be hard as well to follow. I enjoyed this war novel, although I'm not in the same exact situation as Paul (main Character) some of the experiences he goes through I can truly relate to. I can say, if you truly think about it, probably anyone can feel almost the same as Paul has. Most of his experiences are of human nature. Some of the readers find his experiences to be of greater dept and can very much relate to the experiences emotionally. Others find the book to be about how much a war effects the people, and how much damage it can do to one's life.
I rate this book a 4 because I do find some of the area's of the book boring and hard to understand. The book has many exciting points and some very dramatic scenes. I would recommend this book for 9th grade and above. Adults would probably enjoy this book as much as my teacher did. If buying this book as a gift I would recommend this only to someone who reads for pleasure. Young students might not understand some of the content or experiences the Character goes through, also it has some high vocabulary words. It's a wonderful story.
