Summary: Absolutely Wonderful!
Review: It is amazing to me how Mr. Irving created such a readably-realistic character (Owen), and readably-believable situations that upon verbal explanation to my husband seemed a little "out there." I don't know if I have ever laughed so hard while reading a book--3:00 a.m. I was afraid I would wake the whole house! Wonderful, admirable, lovable characters. This book has made its way into my list of all-time favorites. It gave me the shivers--in a good way!

Summary: Very Interesting
Review: This was such a strange story to follow. I think the only reason i actually finished this book was because i wanted to see how Irving would pull it together at the end. Which he did, and i was impressed....as usual. At times I found myself reading the same paragragh a couple of times. But i base alot of my opinion on a story's ending, so i would have to recommend this book to anyone who is a believer of God, or even just mildly religious. i honestly think it will bring you more faith than you thought possible.

Summary: ********************
Review: The novel follows the antics of two young boys, all the way through their adolescence. The writing, the situations, the characters all mimick the youthful stage of life; they are innocent, mischievous and goofy. But what gives the tale its spin, its authority, its tenderness and, ultimately, its foreboding threat, is that this innocence of youth is coupled with issues and themes of severe import. There is, in every instance, monumental spirituality, pathos and angst; insight into the formal institutions of politics, religion and wealth; and a lonesome, plaintive, strong wisdom regarding personal struggles with doubt, emptiness, love, loyalty and death. The characters are children, but their messages are almost uncomfortably sagacious.

This is a novel that, I think, intends to instruct. But what is it trying to teach? Is this novel a call to renounce self- will and determination in favor of fate? Is this a practical manual of sorts, or can we relegate its moral down to fairy tale status?

And what of the narrator? What can we make of his rather passive, sometimes unintelligent position? Is he a hero just as Owen? Or is he the general public, the people struggling to recognize their own ignorance and inability?

In any case, A Prayer For Owen Meany asks us to make choices between those things that are powerful and those that are weak; those that are difficult or easy, tender or harsh. Above all, I think, the novel addresses an issue as simple as childhood: the bonds of love, between mother and son, husband and wife, firt time lovers, and most of all, best friends.

Summary: The Best Book Ever Written
Review: This book was simply amazing. It was beautifully written and was not easy to put down. I simply loved Owen Meany. He was heartbraking, CUTE, mature, smart, hypnotic, one in a million... I could go on. The way Mr. Irving portrayed the life of this wonderful human being was truly great. I don't understand why the movie was so under rated.

Summary: I thought this was an extrodinarily moving novel
Review: I was forced to read A Prayer For Owen Meany for school. Reading books fro my English class is a task I do not usually folllow through with because to be quite honest I do not find most of the novels we are forced to read interesting. Although, A Prayer For Owen Meany is one of the only novels I can truthfully say I could not put down! I suggest it to anyone.

Summary: Simply Outstanding
Review: Absolutely wonderful. A simply remarkable book, heavily layered with religious and literary subtext. I can't say anything more than I began reading it after picking it up in an airport bookstore and ended up finishing it in the parking lot of my gym (I'm a bodybuilder). I read the last 3 pages sitting in my truck in a gym parking lot, unable to put it down, with tears, quite literally, rolling down my face. I still can't get it out of my mind. Truly a glorious work. I already want to begin it again.

Summary: A Brilliant, Unforgettable Book!!!
Review: Nothing can compare to the joyride of experiencing this novel. Never have I read a book that was so exhilarating, albeit an exhilaration tempered by the knowledge that something TRULY AWFUL was coming. I read on, like a moth drawn to the flame, knowing I would hate to read the last page. It's a wonderful, wonderful book.

Summary: An instrument of God? Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes.....
Review: I was a John Irving Virgin before Owen Meany. The only reason I ordered the book was because I was on a reading binge, Stephen King is behind in his writing and I had seen the previews of Simon Birch. Well, Owen has ended my binge. This book has touched me in so many way. I laughed, cried (still do) and re-evaluated my own Christianity. Owen Meany takes you through a part of our history the same way Forrest Gump did. John Irving has created a character that will stay with me for a very long time, if not forever. I am not used to Irvings style of writing, but thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't know if I will be able to see the movie or not. I am afraid I will be too critical and I know I will be crying before the opening credits start. Someday maybe...In the meantime I carry Owen in my heart the way the kids carried him around the Sunday School class; tenderly. I finished the book over a month ago and have not been able to pick another one up. I have one in the wings waiting. When I find the courage to move on and finish it, I plan on reading another Irving novel "The Cider House Rules".

Summary: COMPLETELY BRILLIANT!
Review: What can I possibly add, to all the rave reviews, that already exist for this book? Simply....DITTO.

Summary: A book where you can discover yourslef
Review: Owen Meany is one of the best develped characters I have ever come across in either a book or in person. In fact his character is so overwhelming that we could only wish that a person such as Owen Meany could acctualy exist. He touches a part of us that we never knew was there. A discovered a new sense of mysticalism, life and love. It's so hard to find such a book that can change ones life forever, especially in the novels of today. I must give Mr. John Irving a lot of credit for being so creative and imaginative. Is is truely a geneous.
