Summary: Eugenides is an artist
Review: I must admit that given the title, the cover picture, and the fact that this book was being made into a movie, I had my doubts. I was sure it was going to be some sexual thriller or superficial detective story. I couldn't have been more wrong. This book is a work of art. It is obvious that the author took great time and care with its writing. Each word is carefully selected not just for meaning, but for impact.

Having grown up in a similar neighborhood in the same era, the imagery was particularly effective for me. However, I don't think anyone can read this without getting caught up in the atmosphere. You can feel the summer nights and the cold winter days. You can smell the burning leaves. You can feel what the boys feel as they watch the Lisbon girls from afar. Because,in the end, that is what the book is about-the way we feel, and the memories and images we come away with.

If you appreciate the magic that words can weave, you should read this book.

Summary: A humorous and extraordinary book that mixes tragedy into on
Review: This book is really interesting because it's so strange and at the same time it has a really good theme. The story makes you not put the book down. It was so realistic and involved real problems. The book was sad and at the same time it was funny because the group of sisters go through so much. I definately recommend this book because I think many people will find this book interesting.

Summary: The Virgin Suicides
Review: The Virgin Suicides was a very interesting book to read. This story of young girls' awkwardness while growing into women was captured well by the writer. When the girls had to stay around the house all day I felt sad, as if I could have done something about it, because the writer described the emotions so well. The symbolism in this book is great. Every death anniversay has so much meaning, as well as how each suicide was committed. I would definately recommend reading this book to anyone who had trouble while growing up.

Summary: Read it in Two Days
Review: After reading Girl, Interrupted I went on a whole kick where I had to read every book I could get my hands on about anything relating to depression or suicide. After finally getting around to this book, I was not dissapointed. The story is told from an admirer of the Lisbon girls, you never even learn his name. If you read this book expecting to find answers as to why the girls kill themselves you will be let down for the author lets the reader come to his or her own conclusion. However, this book is so well written you can feel how the narrater feels. Even though I already knew the end, I couldn't put the book down. It's got some funny moments and it also makes you think. I would recommand this book to anyone who wants to read something a little different. It's not real long and is easy to read.

Summary: Better Than Expected
Review: I didn't expect a male author to have decent insight to write a book about teenage girls killing themselves. It was summed up in the Cecelia's statement, "Well, obviously doctor you've never been a 13 year old girl." It was incredible the way he gave each girl a definitive personality, and yet in the end they seemed like one person. He captured the female spirit and personality much better than Wally Lamb in She's Come Undone. A very good read, but very dark as well.

Summary: An excellent depiction of teenage life
Review: As a teenager myself, I thought that this novel did an amazing job of describing the tribulations of everyday teenager thoughts. Though I would have liked to know how the Lisbon girls would have explained their actions, I feel that this book was incredible in the way that it showed the cause-and-effect theory. This book is now at the top of my list of literary favorites, and I would recommend it to anybody seeking answers in life.

Summary: Fantastic Book, Keeps Audience Guessing
Review: I couldn't put this book down. As I read the book, and got to know the Lisbon girls through the eyes of their neighbors. The one thing I didn't like is that it listed several "examples" and whatnot, and never talked about them again...it was sort of odd. As these sisters gradually take their lives together, I found myself on the edge of my seat, waiting to find out if they'd really move out, or if they'd do what they did... It talks about the 5 girls as one person, and their parents seem to have forgotten that they are human. All in all, a wonderful book. I only wish it were longer and explained more, maybe from the girls' point of view. I guess that's part of the book's charm though.

Summary: An Amazing work of Art
Review: Wow! I've read some books, but this one is like no other. It seemed almost unreal. Like nothing was really happening. But when you look closer you realize that so much more than you ever thought was going on. It seemed almost frustrating. You wanted to know how the Lisbon girls felt. What their motive was and just more about them. Instead you saw them through the eyes of characters who didn't even really know them themselves. It was the kind of book that really makes your brain work, you have to look deeper than what is just on the pages. It's even possible to determine for yourself part of the story. Read this book. It's like no other!!

Summary: a good intersting read
Review: The topic and main idea in which the novel centers around is told in the very first paragraph of this book. So the remainder of the novel is left to wonder HOW they did it and possibly why. The book is absolutely filled with haunting memories of the Lisbon girls and their role in a typical neighborhood. Eugenides' lack of plot development is made up through his thrilling descriptions and amazing flow throughout the entire piece. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any high school student especially those interested in phsycology.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: uninteresting
Review: I do not understand why others gave this book such a high rating. I thought this book was very dull with exception to the way in which the boys discovered that the girls were dead. I forced myself to finish the book, because I thought that there had to be something good in it, because of it's high rating. I can not recomend this book.
