Summary: GREAT NOVEL
Review: I think that this was one of the best novels it was ingeneously written and recreated as the movie Gettysburg. This novel is a great teaching aid and a great piece of literature in general.

Summary: The book to put you in the battle of Gettysburg!!!
Review: This book is a must have!! Shaara takes you into the minds and lives of four different men who play key roles in the Battle of Gettysburg. He gives you a front row seat and the inside info on the thoughts, feelings, and strategies of each side fighting for their lives and their beliefs. It was the battle that became the turning point in the war and it has become a turning point in my life as well. I cannot stop reading civil war books now!! If you love the Civil War as much as I do, but don't want all the military lingo, this is a must read!!

Summary: Bautiful Book
Review: Very early in the book, Colonel Joshua Chamerlain bows his head and thinks, "A man who has been shot at is a new realist, and what do you say to a realist when the war is a war of ideals?" That question summarizes the dilemma and the tragedy of the American Civil War. A tragedy this book illustrates so poingnantly that it must surely bring tears to anyone's eyes. Shaara shows us that, whatever our history teachers had told us, this was a tragic war that men fought -- not because they wanted to fight it but because they felt they had no choice. There is General Lee ordering the desperate assault because he wants the war to end more than anything , there is Joshua Chamberlain repulsing assault after assault at Little Round Top -- a professor turned famous commander, there is Longstreet sending men into a battle he knows they will lose, sending them because he does not know what else to do, there is General Armistead of North Virginia sending his personal Bible to Mrs. Hancock his best friend's wife -- the wife of a man who repuls Armistead's assault. It is their stories seamlessly interwoven together that make this book the best account not only of the battle of Gettysburg but of war. All students should read this as part of their American history curriculum.

Summary: THE BEST GETTYSBURG NOVEL IN PRINT
Review: I have never in my life read a civil war novel that was so interesting. You can really feel what the generals were thinking. This book was so interesting, I read it in 3 days! Many people have said that this book isn't historicly correct, but that's not the point. Michael wanted to write this becuse he always thought history was boring, but you won't, no, can't be bored by this book!

Summary: A great war novel by Michael Shaara
Review: Killer Angels by Michael Shaara: There were many great generals in the Civil War. This book shows how the generals and there soldiers wound up in Gettysburg and the battles that were fought prior to the great one in Gettysburg. The book has chapters on the great Robert E. Lee to a hatted spy with valuable information. It shows how both sides were almost destroyed and how the Union won. This book is a great war thriller. And what is even better is that it is a true story. Anyone who likes historical fiction, action or books about war will love this book.

Summary: A flawless re-creation of Civil War history
Review: Many times as I read The Killer Angels, I stopped and wondered, 'How does Shaara know?'. I asked that question because what he wrote seems impossible to question. He must have known. He knows what they thought, what they said. The account of words, thoughts and actions is just too real to have been made up. If The Killer Angels doesn't make you hear the rumble of the cannon and smell the sulfur in the air, nothing will. If The Killer Angels doesn't put a lump in your throat or a tear on your cheek, maybe your blood isn't American.

Summary: A heart-rending study in leadership
Review: Although a Civil War buff since junior high school, I did not discover this marvel until attending the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College, where it was required reading. I was not the only student who read it in one sitting. It also caused some of the most lively discussions, debates, and arguments our class engaged in throughout the course. The most compelling thing about the book was Mr. Sharra's ability to draw one completely into the characters' thoughts and emotions. It was also a concise and riveting look at commanders' relationships with other commanders and the soldiers they would send and/or lead into battle. If you are only interested in gory battle scenes, this book is not for you. Although the battle descriptions will make you feel as if you are a participant (one can almost feel the ground trembling under the largest artillery barrage ever conducted in North America), the real story is about the individuals. It is, easily, the best historical novel I have ever read. If it doesn't make you want to run out and become a Civil War reenactor, or at least read Jeff Shaara's prequel, then you need to borrow Commander Data's emotion chip. Now, where's that hoop skirt pattern?

Summary: Must-read
Review: One of the best books I've ever read. Since reading this book, I have become engrossed in Civil War books. But none have compared with this one. I would never read a "war" story until a friend of mine insisted that I read this. There is amazingly little fighting in the book. It is a study of the emotions and driving forces of four major players in the Battle of Gettysburg. You won't be able to put it down - guaranteed. P.B., male, age 40

Summary: Premier Civil War Narrative
Review: Killer Angels is the definative Civil War narrative. Written clearly enough for a "Dont' Know too Much" crowd, but detailed accounts of tactics and strategies that will appeal to the well read historian. A great read for anyone interested in the Civil War. The novel is worth reading just for the sections on Chamberlain's stand. Shaara has given us a masterpiece
