Rating: Summary: boring in the beginning and boring at the end Review: When I read The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara it never really grabbed my attention. I think that it was very confusing to someone who doesn't know much about the civil war. It did, however, give very detailed accounts of how war is. I think I would appreciate this book more if I knew more about the civil war or if I were a little older and liked to read. But I'm only a teenager so I didn't like it as much as someone older than me.
Rating: Summary: One Awesome Book. Review: Once I read this book I was hooked on Civil War literature. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes battles or relationships between soldiers. I read the book for fun and then did a project for school with it. I new so much from the book my speech turned out to be long! Michael Shaara did a great job writing it. I enjoyed all 374 pages of it. I liked how he told about each character. The battle descriptions seemed so real it seemed like you could see the battlefield. Whoever gave this book less than 5 stars should hit theirselves. It was the best Civil War book I've read and will proabably ever read!
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK EVER!!!! Review: The killer angels is the best book ever written(my opinion)!! I was in third grade when I read it. It magnificently and vividly tells the story of the Battle of Gettysburg better than any thing I have ever read. It starts with the aftermath of Chancellorsville. The Confederate morale high, and the Union's low. Filled with little known characters you will never forget. A must for anyone who has even heard of the Civil War.READ IT!!!
Rating: Summary: Sad throughout, but boring in the beginning Review: The book started out by what seemed like trudging thorugh mud. About 1/3 way through, it started to get very interesting. A worthwile read!
Rating: Summary: A moving portrayal of a tragic time in our history. Review: I experienced an insight into the minds of the southern officers who fought so gallantly in the battle of Gettysburg and came away with a whole new way of thinking of the southern army.
Rating: Summary: Wellington is dead; long live Chamberlain! Review: I own & have watched "Gettysburgh" on video some 10 times. Critics claim "Saving Private Ryan" is the best war film ever. I say they have not seen "Gettysburgh" To have seen the film is to have read the book! Whoever wrote the screenplay must have had the simplest task ever; it is virtually identical to the book. What an occolade, barely a word changed! The book is unput-downable, especially if you have seen the film. For 25 years I have been a Napoleonic Wargamer; my hero the Duke of Wellington. Sorry "Nosey" move over; Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, a college professor, has edged you out, together with Hancock, Armistead, Pickett, Jim Kemper and probably the greatest gentleman who ever lived, General Robert E. Lee. If you have not read this book or seen this film then you must do so forthwith. Unless you are completely insensitive to the history of the world and human relations, it will change you view on life.
Rating: Summary: What a book Review: What a great book it inspiared me so much! The movie was great and showed what the civi war was really like.Gods and gnerals is also a wonderful book and one to remberer. the sharahs make a great team of authors even though micheal is dead.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read! Review: Through The Killer Angels I learned things about the Civil War that I had never imagined. I actually felt that I knew Longstreet and Chamberlain by the time I finished the book. If you never read another book in your life, you need to read The Killer Angels. The literary world lost a master when it lost Michael Shaara. I am an avid reader and it would be safe to say I have probably read thousands of books in my lifetime. No other author has ever made me feel the way Michael Shaara did. This book will be a permanent edition to my library.
Rating: Summary: A dazzling, sobering novel of the American Civil War. Review: This is perhaps one of the most moving and insightful books about war I have ever read. Taking an unbiased view on the rights and wrongs of the characters' motivations, Shaara explains the lives and actions the historical protagonists with simple dignity and humanity. For the tacticians amongst you there is a feast of military fact which alone makes the book worth buying, the battle scenes are panoramic, you can almost smell the black powder, but Shaara never loses sight of the butchery of war and handles the various encounters with skill and empathy. If you buy any book on the American civil war, and in particular Gettysburg, buy this one.
Rating: Summary: Five stars is all I should have to say. Review: It has to be the greatest Civil War novel I have ever read. It is written extremely well and definately deserves the 5 stars.
