Summary: Maybe the best audiobook I've ever heard
Review: The print versions of this book have received high praise here, but I want to add that the audiobook (unabridged) is positively first rate. It deserves to be at the top of your list if you are a commuter or just like to listen.

Summary: Awesome desrcriptions of emotion, war, and death.
Review: i just finished the book today. i felt like i was experiencing what the generals went through while trying to make the right decisions, and the guilt they felt if they made the wrong ones. i could hear the guns firing and the cannons booming. this book is awesome and i recommend it to anyone who enjoys good war stories. 10th grade, Pennsylvania

Summary: Please read!!!
Review: Wow. I used to think history was all about dates and dead people. I've even been to Gettysburg and not understood what really went on. After reading this book, it is so much easier to understand. Although I would recommend reading it for the emotional content, the book is equally good if you want to just understand the facts of the battle. I LOVED IT! Definitely a must read, even for you High Schoolers (that's me, I read it for a class!) who think history is boring. It will change your mind!

Summary: Impressive, memorable
Review: Why did I choose this? I don't know. It was a Pulitzer, and those are dependably readable, high quality. I thought everyone else had read it (wrong). It was an extraordinary experience, and while the writing at times could be more obvious than aesthetic, it was highly atmospheric and immediate. It contributed greatly to my understanding of the Civil War and war in general. I thought the character of Arthur Freemantle had been invented for ironic relief and was surprised to find that no, the Queen of England had, in fact, dispatched that emissary to study the tactics of the Confederate leadership. I've since shared my interest in visiting the Gettysburg battle sites with people who have done so and have gotten an unexpected reaction: Why would I want to go see flat, empty spaces? Flat, empty spaces? The book is about anything but.

Summary: awesome breathtaking book that keeps you reading
Review: It is very neat how the book shows viewpoints from all possible aspects that there could be. It provides you with tons of facts while at the same time provding a nice element of fiction. A must read for any civil war buff!

Summary: Makes the reader feel like he/she was actually there.
Review: Michael Sharra's book is unlike most civil war novels. Instead of being an all out factual novel, Sharra goes deeper where he describes how the men felt, what the weather was like, what kind of food they ate,etc... Someone who has little knowledge about the Battle of Gettysburg will feel like he/she was actually there during the battle once they have read this book. The novel is so well defined, so well written, it almost put's one to tears. "The Killer Angels" brings the Battle of Gettysburg alive and shows the reader what life was like during that time.

Summary: This is a MUST READ for anyone who enjoys history.
Review: Comment for Lysette at AOL... "Honors History" Hmmmmm.

This is an excellent work which not only makes the battle of Gettysburg come alive but also makes you want to learn more about those pivotal three days in July 1863. Reading this work makes one realize how close we all came to having the Stars and Bars as the national flag or at the very least remain a Nation divided.

Summary: The best Civil War novel I've read and I've read MANY
Review: This book earned the Pulitzer on the strength of its vivid descriptions of the historical characters involved and the landscape they fought upon. Gettysburg is interesting from many perspectives: the military strategy of the generals involved; the unique landscape of the town; the impressions formed by foreign nations who tagged along with the armies in battle; and the difficulties of fighting a war without machines or advanced surgery in the 1860s, where a tiny lead ball could cost you your arm or leg. Just a superior novel and the finest I've ever read about Gettysburg and the Civil War in general. I've ready many other books on the subjects and they just do not have the author's skill for capturing the multiple elements involved in this historic conflict. Do not hesitate, click the buttons on this site and buy it now!

Summary: This book sucks!
Review: I had to read this book for my tenth grade honors history class. I had heard from several other people that this book was outstanding really gettin into the character's emotions, rather than all the factual stuff, like "They marched five miles north, turned, marched more", and that type of crap. That sounded pretty good to me because I'm not into that type of thing. So I decided to give it a whirl, and see how I like it. I read it, and I hardly got anything out of it. That's about it.

Summary: Brought me to tears...
Review: I was incredibly impressed and I was moved to tears. I have not yet read Gods and Generals or The Last Full Measure, but I hope they are equally as good. The Killer Angels was brilliant, a personal-feeling, real-life look at the Civil War, specifically the battle of Gettysberg.
