Rating: Summary: A funny yet touching book Review: The Nanny Diaries is a book you will pick up and not want to stop reading. Nanny's adventures with Grayer and the X'es will make you laugh and cry. Seeing how the X'es treat Grayer and Nanny will surprise you. Just when you think, NO they WOULDN'T... they do. Overall this book is easy reading, has a great story line and is very entertaining. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Very funny Review: This is one of those fun books that you can breeze through in an afternoon or two. But, it is not pure fluff- this one has real substance.I found myself thinking about it long after. The authors know Park Avenue and effectively satirize it right down to the tropm L'oeil doors. The descriptions of these apartments/parties are worht the price of the book. I understand whyt the protagonist is simply called "Nan", but it made her too impersonal. Seeing her relationships with the little boy she watches as well as his parents grown and change made for a book that I did not want to put down. My (minor) complaint was the ending felt rushed and could have been better. This was fun to read and I hope for more from this author.
Rating: Summary: Review Number 189 Review: The subject matter is good, certainly kept me up much to late and the coffee the next morning didn't do DIDLY! Ok, so the authors don't really have a style, and it ooozzzes in write-for-a-hobby style. The girls are genius' in one sence... they know how to get the middle-class entertained, by dangling the silly lives of the upper-class in front of us. It did do one thing which I think was worth the price of the book... it made me feel good about my home-cooked meals and the hands-on time I spend with my 4-year old, 24 hours a day!!! REAL WOMEN DON'T NEED NANNIES!
Rating: Summary: The best...coming from a Nanny Review: I absolutley loved this book. I am not a reader (in fact this is one of few books I've ever finished) but I loved this book. I loved the bitchiness of Mrs. X and the cute relationship Nanny shared with Grayer. Emma and Nicola did a wonderful job on this book. I can't wait until the next book is written. I'd like to see a series begin. If anyone who has ever wondered what it is like to Nanny a rich kid...here is your op to step into the life.
Rating: Summary: Terrific!! Review: This book has it all: wit, truth, and entertainment. You don't have to live in the New York area to know parents like these.
Rating: Summary: Good, but weak ending Review: I found myself rooting for Nanny the whole book, and really enjoyed the story. However, the ending was weak. The reader is left with a lot of questions, and the story concludes with many loose ends. Did she find a new apartment? A new job? Etc, etc.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I really enjoyed the story- it was a fun, easy read that was incredibly realistic. So I'm not surprised this book has the elite of NYC pointing fingers up and down Park Ave as to who the real Mrs. X is. The reviews seemed to be based on whether Nanny was a snob- the truth is, if you were discussing Nanny's personality, her likes, dislikes, thoughts or feelings then you were absorbed by the book. And that, my friends, is the sign of a great book.
Rating: Summary: The Nanny Diaries Review: The plot of this book is already displayed on the page, and in several of the other reviews, so I won't bother to retell the story now. The only thing I could add to influence whether you will read or buy this book or not is my personal opinion and views on its content. This book is highly enjoyable. The writing style is easy-to-read, and in many parts witty. As for the plot, I believe many find it a great read because it puts down the rich; it says that "you may be rich, but you have no soul; you may have a child, but dressing them in babygap does not make you a parent--the nanny spends more time with your kid and more time organizing your life than you do!" While this might not be true for every rich person in the world, I believe that the average person envies the rich, and reading this book makes them feel slightly superior to richer people. This book is a comedy. It is an enjoyable read, and would be great to take to the beach. It is not a classic. I wouldn't read it again, years from now, reminescing about how it changed my life; it didn't. The reason I gave this book a lot of stars is because it fulfills its purpose, which is to entertain. My advice to people interested in this book is this: check it out at the library--it's an enjoyable and funny read--but don't buy it.
Rating: Summary: Nanny Truth Review: The Nanny Diaries was a halerious book. I identified so much with Nanny, being one myself. She told it much of how it truely is. I laughed out loud at parts, and felt so bad for Nanny and Grayer at others. It's passionate and down to earth. It's rather easy reading, and keeps your attention so you want to finish it in one sitting. For all the hype it has caused, it is worth it.
Rating: Summary: So, this is how the other half parent their children. Review: This book makes me glad that I don't have any money. (or rather my kids should be glad I don't). This novel is funny, tragic, and moving. The authors make Nanny so real you want to go to central park and tell her to run for her life! While I hope that some of this was exaggerated, it was great fun. Kudos to these fresh new authors!
