Summary: A Fun Read...Not a Literary Masterpiece
Review: The Nanny Diaries is a quick-read book. As in, you read it for the entertainment value--not as a serious tome on parenting skills. I originally hoped it would be more of an expose' of the NY wealthy, but it really was just Nanny's experiences with predictable characters and situations. I'll admit I couldn't put it down but by the disappointing end, I was relieved I'd finished.

Summary: Wow! A lot of talk about this book!
Review: 750 reviews? I couldn't even begin to try to go over each and every review. But after scanning several of them, I've come to the conclusion that people seem to either LOVE or HATE this book. I am one of the people who loved it. It was very absorbing from the start. It was a quick paced, enjoyable read. I agree with the reviewer that it portrayed a caricature of Manhattan's upper crust. I found it hilarious and wanted to see what would happen next, or just how bad it could get. I was, however, a little dissapointed at the ending. I felt that it wrapped up a little too quickly, without an adequate resolution to the nine month build-up of being in a "hostile working environment." This is where the book seemed to stray from its caracture format and slip into a more somber, graceful, and realisitic version of how such an employment might end. I really wanted the "War of the Roses" style blow-out, with Nanny and Grayer coming out on top and giving the Xes a taste of their own medicine.

Summary: Fascinating, funny and yet appalling.
Review: A great read, most amusing but quite horrific when you know that there are real parents out there with so little time for their offspring.
And that's what comes across, no time,no love, just a status
symbol.
But what makes this bitter reality so readable is the delightful humour and love, by the nannies, even if you realize the whole scenario is a tad 'black".

Summary: The Nanny Diaries
Review: Just notice that "The Nanny Diaries" is on the list of top-selling books this year, so I wonder what's wrong with Americans' taste... maybe the title of the book kind of seduced readers; or dull character, sloppy story, wrinkled prose make the readers trying hard keeping reading, trying hard to see if there is indeed anything in the book worth anything, keep it until the end of book disappointed or far beyond disappointed 'cause nothing worth it... A piece of junk book, don't quite understand what's up with Americans' taste...

Summary: Funny yet Sad
Review: These debut novel give us an inside peek at upper society's treatment of caregivers and even their own children. Nanny is hired to take care of Grover while his parents have a life. This poor child is so starved for his dad's attention that I felt sorry for him. His mother is more concerned with getting him in the right preschool and teaching him Latin than to hear about his day at the playground. The mother in this book has this kid eating strange foods I never heard of, taking classes that were meant for high school students and putting him fourth or fifth to every other event in her life. When she discovers her husband's infidelity, she doesn't realize what goes around comes around but plots to get pregnant again to save her materialistic lifestyle. I hope this book is the exception to how the rich treat their hired help and offspring but I don't think so. I remember when this book first hit the bookstores, many uppercrust families were in an uproar and wanted it banned from publication. I hope it was a wakeup call and they see their children as a human being and not an object to placed on a shelf when not wanted. This book had some funny moments in it and will give all parents no matter the financial status of their lives, some things to think about.

Summary: Entertaining and fun to read
Review: As a person who has been a nanny for as long as I can remember, I really enjoyed this book. It was entertaining and fun to read - I couldn't put it down!

Not for the highly educated types who are more interested in form than content. But if you enjoy a quick, light read, and you can relate to anyone who has ever taken care of children, you'll enjoy this book.

Summary: TRULY AMAZING
Review: As soon as I finished this book, I flipped right back to the first page and started over. There is so much to enjoy, that I had to experience it again. The situations and consequeneces in this book made me cry and laugh at the same time. It follows the main character, Nanny through her hardships and triumphs concerning the boy she is looking after. Summary: You'll Laugh, You'll Cry, You'll Explode with Rage! :)
Review: I just finished this book, and had to write a review. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Nanny Diaries", and would highly recommend it to anyone who works with children or has children. This is a very accurate portrait of the relationship between a parent and her child's caregiver. I could not put it down. I felt like I knew the characters and was really rooting for the heroine in the end. You really will laugh, cry and scream in frustration as you read this book. Please read it today!

Summary: Boring . . . Boring . . . Boring!!!
Review: The book was read by my book club. One person liked it, but the rest of us found it boring. Perhaps, former nannies will like the book, but I found it a waste of my time. But, I sure loved Seabiscuit, our next book club read!
