Summary: A waste
Review: Lately, I have been unable to find a book that could captivate my attention. After reading wonderful reviews of this book, I had my sister take me to buy it. Big mistake. I took me two days to read it, because the entire time I was hoping the book would eventually get better. Big surprise- it didn't.

Summary: Not classic literature but...
Review: ...it's not meant to be. There isn't a dull, wasted paragraph in this book; it kept me entertained for the single half-day it took to read it.

The characters are surprisingly three dimensional, even the least redeemable of the main characters had a moment or two that I felt pity for them.

Summary: Public relations firm hyping mediocre book
Review: It is annoying that so many of the reviews are written and hyped by the same person. "Heartfelt, laughed and cried, page-turner." Pleeeeease. I am in awe of the successful P.R. effort but after reading the book, you'll feel very disappointed.

Note to overzealous P.R. firm: Let the book rise or fall on its own merits without pumping it.

Summary: Depressing!
Review: I bought this book on a lark. Thought it would be fun, humorous and take my mind off some things. Instead, I wondered into a mock world where no one cares about anyone but themselves. The nanny is as unpleasant and nasty as the subjects she humiliates. No winners in this one.

Summary: Utter [garbage]
Review: Yes folks it's true - women who hire nannies are neurotic weirdos. This book mysteriously focusses very little on what Grayer's father could be doing to improve his child's upbringing. No doubt this is just the kind of utter garbage that will be stuffed down our throats by Hollywood in the near future. Well it is choking me.

Summary: Beautifully written and hilarous
Review: I could not put this book down. McLaughlin and Kraus have written a compelling, intelligent page-turner that kept me laughing late into the night. Their satire of the Upper East Side nouveau riche set rings scarily true (I grew up there too, so I've seen a lot of such behavior), and my heart aches for the hundreds of love-deprived childern and sleep-deprived nannies out there.

Summary: Reads like Sweet Valley High book
Review: This book is terrible. It's their first attempt at a book and reads like it too. The descriptions of characters and scenes are similar to something a high school level student would write for an English 101 essay. It's a waste of time.

Summary: The Nanny Diaries
Review: A voueristic look into the life of a manhattan socialite....Overall this book was extremely entertaining. The book is sad in the sense that there are plenty of children out there whose lives this book mirrors. It's horrible to think there are parents out there like this. This book is a good read, not the highest quality writing, but entertaining nonetheless.

Summary: Not What I Thought
Review: The Nanny Diaries was a good book, I couldn't put it down, but it wasn't at all what I expected. I expected a funny story about what it was like to be a nanny. Instead it was poignant, at times funny, but mostly sad and distrubing. If this is based on the authors experiences as nannies, it is indeed a sad comentary on contemporary life. The "mother" was such a horrible character, like a train wreck, you didn't want to look, but couldn't tear your eyes away. This woman goes way beyond self-centered and self-indulgent. She brings new meaning to psychological/mental child abuse. Her treatment of the nanny was reprehensible, but her treatment of her own child was something I never imagined. If people like this really exist, and I believe they do, it's no wonder our society is in such turmoil. I couldn't put the book down, but it was very distrubing.

Summary: Borders on absurdity, but not in a bad way!
Review: I don't want to ever be a nanny! Having said that, this book is a complete riot.

I found this "novel" (see disclaimer at front of book) to be very, very insightful and funny. It seems to me, the story the author's are trying to tell is one of complete absurdity. Mr. and Mrs. X are just so over the top, but in way, it makes them more real.

Other good books that border on absurdity (but not in a bad way!): "Heartbreaker" (Kim Corum) and "Bad Heir Day" (Wendy Holden).
