Summary: What is all the hype about?
Review: A good looking guy, a good looking girl, both very smart, both in danger, both with incredible luck... Ok, I've read books like that before...
Too many things seem to happen just at the right time in this book. We just happen to have 2 people with bottomless knowledge on cryptology and symbology, perfect for the story. And then, oh no, can you believe it? We meet another person who knows all there's to know about the Grail! It's just too farfetched in my opinion. And what was the author trying to do with that simple code that never one of the main characters can figure out for a good while (you know the one)? Come on, it was easy to see how to read it, even I who do not have any cryptology background could decipher it! What, am I supposed to think that these 3 super intelligent characters cannot figure it out at a glance but everything else is a breeze to them?
Although I found the descriptions of the two religious groups and the da Vinci paintings interesting, I still cannot see why this book has been a bestseller for so long. By the end, I didn't care if the Grail was ever found... But that's just me.

Summary: Starts better than it ends
Review: A great book to read on a plane. It starts out very strong and keeps you guessing throughout. Ending is a little weak.

Summary: Couldn't put it down
Review: A great book. A very pleasant surprise. I finished it very fast and kept awake to finish it.

I liked its use of puzzles, a great historical perspective and its gripping pace.

The twists and turns are truly amazing. Very well crafted.

I also liked its perspective on the current state of the world and how by incorporating elements of compassion we can improve.

A 'must read'.

Summary: Fast-paced and fun
Review: A great pell-mell thriller with intriguing bits of history and and art and religioso speculation thrown in. Surprisingly well-written for its genre (and far, far more readable than the turgid Umberto Eco). Brown orchestrates the plot and juggles his clues beautifully. I have to wonder at the agenda of the naysayers on this forum--it's a slick thriller with a great hook, so why all the puffery about the accuracy of its historical speculations? (As for those who claim that's it's too predictable and they figured everything out--don't believe 'em.)

Summary: Neal Stephenson For Dummies
Review: A great premise and fascinating historical religious esoterica are married to a pedestrian mystery and monochromatic and predictable characters. Brown is what Harlan Ellison would call an "author", as opposed to a "writer". He is capable of producing easily digestible, and therefore popular material, but his work has no literary merit. A typical MTV attention span is ideal for optimum enjoyment. This would actually be a good beach/airplane read. The reading experience would be enhanced by crying babies, people noisily noshing cheap peanuts and occasional turbulence induced nausea.

Summary: A great read!
Review: A great read!

I truly enjoyed reading this It's a rarity these days to find an author capable of such good storytelling. The story is well written and very engaging, and despite the fact that it lost some momentum in the middle, I found myself eagerly turning pages to find out what would happen next. All in all, though this is not quite a perfect novel, it comes close.

Summary: Excellent read
Review: A great read. It hooks you in from the beginning. Dan Brown weaves a great story around the the theories of the Holy Grail, Catholism and art. I really enjoyed this book.

Summary: A good mystery, well researched
Review: A great thriller that involved a professor and a crytographer searching for the holy grail after the death of the curator of the Louvre (who was also the leader of a secret society protecting the grail). Lots of twists and turns. Well researched book that looks into the Freemasons, Catholic Church, and pre-Christian religions. The end of the text was a little disappointing but all and all it was a good book.

Summary: Great
Review: A great thriller, whose shortcomings are more than made up for by its strengths. The factual historical and religious interweavings with a first-rate fictional plot make for educational reading--yes!--as well as page-turning reading. And it's even a bit daring in its summing up of a major religion.

One caveat: I came to this book as a layman who knew almost nothing about the Holy Grail other than what I learned from Monty Python. That obviously helped me enjoy this book. From reading the reviews below, if you have a PhD in theology, a lot of the suprises in this book won't be surprises.

Summary: 3 levels of interest!
Review: A great who done it, on the surface! Following Da Vinci as a person, his interest of history and spirituality was intense! All the clues are there. His belief system shines through. The book was well written. Can not put it down once you start. I will read it again and again. Recommend to all.
