Rating: Summary: IT'S FICTION NOT FACT Review: Here are a couple definitions for the uninitiated: ~Fiction, a literary work based on the imagination and not necessarily on fact ~Fiction, 1. the class of literature comprising works of imaginative narration. 2. Something invented or imagined, esp. a made up story. FACT: Dan Brown had his book "The Da Vinci Code" published as a work of FICTION. FACT: All complaints based on supposed inaccuracies in a book of FICTION are UTTERLY UNFOUNDED. Anyone who has entered a review containing complaints as to the content of this book are ignorant of the definition of the word FICTION. (see above) DUH, it's NOT SUPPOSED TO BE FACT! IT'S MADE UP! IT'S ENTERTAINMENT! IT'S FAKE! Just like our President's intelligence. This is an entertaining book of FICTION. Though it may not be exceedingly well written it is still indeed entertaining. I was satisfied with it as a work of FICTION. And I highly recommend it as a book of FICTION. The best thing about this book is that, as a work of FICTION, it has motivated people to get off their couches and learn more by reading non-fiction books, which this is not!
Rating: Summary: Great idea, mediocre writing. Review: Here are the things I liked about The Da Vinci Code: short chapters and fast pacing, intriguing riddles, ideas about alternatives to the basic story of Christianity with which I wasn't all that familiar. However, and it's a big however, the writing was pretty stereotyped and unsophisticated. In the hands of Thomas Harris, for example, this would have been dynamite. Still, it's a fun read, and I'm sure Dan Brown could care less what I think of his writing abilities or lack thereof. As the old saying goes, "he's laughing all the way to the bank."
Rating: Summary: Not the Worst Book in the Universe - but close... Review: Here I was, ready to read a great religious thriller that had been highly recommended by friends as the best thing they had ever read... Well, needless to say, I won't be going to them for reading advice again! What a disappointment. Thin plot (my wife's one-month-old pantyhose are thicker), cardboard box characters (three dimensional but empty inside), and cliches ("Outside, the wind howled in the trees." - please) detract heavily from the truly fascinating information Brown seems to have gathered together. This "hidden in plain sight" information is what should have made the book a great read. Instead, it seems to be just an excuse to string together a movie treatment for sale to a major studio. (I could just hear "Coming soon! The major motion picture the Catholic Church didn't want made! Starring Harrison Ford as Langdon and Meg Ryan as Sophie...") And wasn't it convenient how one piece of information led to the next? If all this is right out in plain sight for an intrepid symbologist and a plucky detective to find, why hasn't the "Priory of Sion" been exposed? Why don't we know more about Mary Magdalene? Oh well, buy it if you must, but don't say you weren't warned...
Rating: Summary: An Exciting Thriller with Substance. Review: Here's a book that lives up to its hype. THE DA VINCI CODE is a wonderful work which engages the readers attention from the first page until its fascinating conclusion. Dan Brown spins an exciting tale of murder, conspiracy and secrecy amidst the backdrop of religion and theology. The book has generated much discussion in Catholic and Christian circles as it interweaves a tale of murder with the 2,000 year old secrets of the church. Mr. Brown's gives great attention to detail in his exposition of various religious theories, yet never strays from the inherent suspense of the story.
Rating: Summary: Test: Are you going to like this book? Review: Here's a riddle. We need a five letter word for an orb: "It speaks of rosy flesh and seeded womb". If you think this is easy, you will not like this book. Unless you like to feel smarter than the best code breakers on earth. In the end, I felt cheated. Should be good for high school kids, though.
Rating: Summary: It's a Thriller. Review: Hey Folks, This one is just fun. Not even done yet and I'll recommend it. Yes its fiction but it does make you think about alot more than just the plot. The plot itself is straight-forward fare and it works well enough to keep things moving, it's thriller afterall. I have fun doing some research on the topics that make up the historical background to the story and when a book gets me learning new things while enjoying a good read well, I recommend it. So check it out and enjoy
Rating: Summary: Oustanding book! Review: Hey folks...It's a NOVEL, meaning it's FICTION! Lighten up! I loved the book. Very well researched, then artistic license taken AS IT SHOULD BE. IT'S FICTION! Besides, religion is for those who can't cope with death and refuse to accept the fact that when you die, worms eat you and nothing more. Does God really need money, or a church? Mankind wrote the Bible, not God. Get a life people, and read this book. It really is excellent.
