Summary: A page-turner, for sure, but....
Review: I took this book with me on a business trip, wanting something interesting and easy to read. For probably the first third, I couldn't get through it fast enough. But about mid-way, as some of the plot points started to reveal themselves, disappointment set in. The puzzles started to remind me of "Encyclopedia Brown" -- fit together just a bit neatly. The structure of the book began to annoy me -- climaxes at the end of every short chapter. I found the prose style irritating and almost amateurish, but I suppose the author may have been using a style that I'm just not a fan of -- at least, unlike many novelists these days, he used punctuation! The big plot payoffs, for example what exactly it was the heroine saw her grandfather doing in the basement all those years ago, weren't worth the buildup. And (this is a sort of a spoiler, so don't read further if you haven't read the book!) are you telling me that this prominent family's true name was never discovered? Well, on that topic I may have missed something -- by the end of the book I confess I wasn't paying the closest attention. I found the ultimate resolution a huge letdown. It's not a terrible book -- but it's probably best suited to a paperback edition at the beach.

Summary: 2 stars is too kind
Review: I totally agree with operation-mobacracy. Only I think 2 stars is 2 too many. Brown is a hack.

Summary: One action packed Thriller
Review: I totally enjoyed this book. It seemed to grab me right away. I normally take about a week to read a book. With "The DaVinci Code" I couldn't put it down and I finnished it in two days. I will certainly put him on my must read list

Summary: Waste of Time
Review: I tried to like this book; gave the author the benefit of the doubt all the way through, but at the end I was so disappointed. What a waste of paper! The characters were mediocre, the plot line drolled on and on, and the conclusion was anticlimatic with just plain silliness. It is obvious that this author has been scorned by the church, and this nonsensical and disconnected book is his revenge. I mean really, the French all upset about some kind of religious sex act? Like they even care about strange religious tendencies. As far as the Jesus/Mary line, just because the author wishes it to be true, doesn't make it so. Attacking religious traditions is so tired and transparent. This author preaches to the disgruntled choir to make a buck.

Summary: A REAL Page Turner!
Review: I try to read as many books as I can, and honestly, I have found few books written in the past decade that I can truly call "page turners" - books you just can't put down. I had heard about this book through some friends who praised it profusely. I bought a copy and haven't been able to put it down. I read the first 150 pages or so without stopping. This book is a masterpiece of suspense and intrigue. Mr. Brown has shot to the top of my list of outstanding authors, and if he writes another book like this one, you can bet I'll be the first in line to buy it. A VERY important novel, destined to be a classic.

Summary: What a fun read
Review: I try to read many different kinds of books, but rarely read blockbuster best sellers because they are so formulaic. Based on a recommendation, I read this one and was pleasantly surprised. Now keep in mind, this is no great work of literature. It is what it is. A fast paced thriller with twists and turns and lots of adventure. While I do not profess to be an art or religion expert, it seemed to be well researched. This books was just plain fun, a great read for the plane or on the beach. You get hooked quickly and its hard to put down. You'll love it!

Summary: utter nonsense
Review: I understand that William Goldman is writing the screenplay for the movie adaptation of this silly novel. Maybe he can turn it into something that will work on screen. As a novel it is pure pulp.

Summary: Great book....front to back
Review: I usually bore easily when it comes to reading novels, but Dan Brown's "DaVinci Code" kept me intrigued from beginning to end. His attention to detail was amazing. I was in France a few years ago and found his descriptions of the Lourve Museum painstakingly accurate. Each plot twist made me want to finish the book even faster to see how it would end. I hope to see Brown write more novels involving the symbologist Robert Langdon. I just bought Brown's earlier novel "Angels and Demons", hoping his earlier works are on par with "The DaVinci Code". It was an excellent book....Highly recommended

Summary: Non-Stop Page Turner
Review: I usually don't read books of this nature, but after my wife and father-in-law raved about it, I had to read it. I was hooked on it from the first two chapters.

Being raised Christian, this book also challenged many of the ideals I was taught through out my life. If you read this with an open mind, it is even more entertaining. I read this book in three days, which at 450 pages, is not easy. ( my job provides me with a lot of down time). The suspense Dan Brown creates is that good.

Read this book, you will not be disappointed. You might even learn sometihng. I know I did.

Summary: Great fiction book -- even for a non-fiction reader!
Review: I usually feel like I'm goofing off if I read pop-fiction. Anything but classics or non-fiction is just a step better than TV.

This books has the best of both worlds.

It's an absolutely gripping, keep-you-up-all-night-to-finish type of a read, with a beautifully woven plot.

But it also builds on fascinating history. Some of it is considered a bit of a controversial version of history, but nevertheless, I felt like I was able to indulge in fiction without completely goofing off with this one!
