Rating: Summary: YES! Review: I thought this book was excellent. I was entertained every step of the way. Just fabulous.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: I thought this book was fantastic; I couldn't put it down. Brown, no doubt, takes some liberties with history, but I can't wait to research what parts of the story were based in truth and which were fragments of his great imagination.
Rating: Summary: Used "Sophie" vs. last names of men Review: I thought this book was quite a page-turner and I enjoyed the religious conspiracy premise, but there were some annoying flaws that downgraded my rating.Cryptologist Neveu is referred to as "Sophie" throughout the book while all the male characters are referred to by their more professional last names only. After all the talk about revering the sacred feminine! (probably mentioned before but I can't read all 900 reviews) #2, the blindness these educated characters displayed when confronted with a simple mirror-writing clue was utterly ridiculous! I thought the writing was average quick-mystery turnout quality with more in the way of plot, but again, it was a "fun" book to read for those of us who weren't already up on all the conspiracy points. Go ahead and read it! It won't be the best book you ever read but you'll enjoy it and be able to get in on all the buzz.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I thought this book was wonderful. It is well written and very interesting. I recommend this book to my friends and family.
Rating: Summary: Learning while you read. Review: I thought this was a good book, an attention-keeper, and something that makes you want to learn more about what's going on in the conspiracies of the world. I probably learned more about mathematical sequences, ancient cults and modern-day tensions in the Church than I expected. Then again, I didn't expect any of that when I started the book. The only thing that I have against it, is that the death of the Louvre's director is the thread that keeps it going throughout the book. Whenever a little "pick me up" is needed, we find it in one of the clues left behind by this man. That in itself is not bad -- but then I realized how much this individual was able to accomplish in the twenty or thirty minutes that he had to live after he had been shot. In a way, it's almost like something from a Saturday-morning cartoon -- here's a guy who's been shot in the stomach, experiencing an agonizing death, and still has presence of mind to leave a large amount of clues behind for others to find. Truly amazing. Great read, makes you want to dust off those old math books and look for pictures of honey bees and sunflowers. Now I know whey they were in those books.
Rating: Summary: Good Summer Fun Review: I thought this was a good book. Of course most of the book will turn most conservative people way off, but it was fun to hear some thoughts on the other side of things, some of the items talked about could very of well happened. Look for yourself at the "Last Supper", I was surprised I didn't catch one of the things before. Overall a good chase mystery novel. The author is not "pushing" any particular views on you, it is just a novel afterall.
Rating: Summary: The Da Vinci Code Review: I thought this was an amazing read. Many of you avid readers - I'm sure- thought this to be a predictable story, however, those of us who have never read Dan Brown would agree that it was a page turner. Many years ago I read Holy Blood, Holy Grail and found it difficutl to follow because of the all the detail and historical facts. Tying to piece it all together was not easy; so when I read The Da Vinci Code it put all that information in the form of a story. This is what I totally enjoyed. I was also able to follow up all this stuff on the internet and found a plethora of information about the Kights Templar, The Priory of Sion etc. This book has made me question my own faith and confirmed many of my beliefs. Some have said that Dan Brown's previous books have been better, but having never read Dan Brown - I thought this book was awesome. I recommend this to anyone who has a penchant for religion and knowledge.
Rating: Summary: Remember that it is fiction Review: I thought this was an incredible book, and the sheer amount of people that said it was so full of historical inaccuracies just made me want to read it more. IT'S A FICTIONAL BOOK! The fact that so many people are griping about its historical inaccuracies is a true testament to how well it's written. These people are acting, like it's claiming to be a nonfiction book! I've read the true facts of the Da Vinci code, and for the amount of facts in the book it's surprising of how many ARE true. This book is still a wealth of knowledge; from religious symbolism to the mathematical golden ratio you learn a lot reading it. Plus, its gripping. the storyline keeps you guessing and makes you proud when you figure something out before the characters do. I enjoyed Angels and Demons more, but this still goes on my great book category
Rating: Summary: Why This Book Is Unique And Memorable Review: I took "The Da Vinci Code" to be what it was intended to be by the author, namely, a fictional mystery story that utilizes a huge amount of historical, religious, and cultural research. If you do the same, you'll find it to be a great read. Dan Brown did a wonderful job of giving the reader an education that is, at the same time, fun and interesting by brilliantly presenting true history, religion, and cultural information within the framework of a fictional mystery story. The only other book I have seen that does that is Norman Thomas Remick's "West Point...Thomas Jefferson" which also quite brilliantly presents true history and philosophy within the framework of a HarryPotter-like fantasy. Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" is truly a unique and memorable book. If you are a lover of books and learning, I recommend that you do not miss reading this book (nor Remick's, either).
Rating: Summary: Why this book is unique Review: I took this book to be what it was written to be, namely, a fictional story drawn on historical facts. If you do the same, that is, don't take it too seriously, you will find it to be a great read. The author, Dan Brown, did a great job of writing a fictional story, somewhat of a fantasy, presenting it within the framework of true history. It is unique. The only other author I have seen who did that is Norman Thomas Remick in his book "West Point" in which he writes a book of true history but presents it within the framework of a fantasy. I loved Dan Brown's book, and Remick's, too. I think all book lovers should read them.
