Summary: I am a new Dan Brown fan after reading this book
Review: I loved "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. This is the first time that I have read one of his books and he has made me a fan already. I enjoyed the book from the first page to the last. I must say that the more I read, the more I wanted to read. I enjoy books with action and mystery and this definately is a favorite. I am sure that I will be reading this book over and over again in the future. If you haven't read it yet, you must!!

Summary: Great Subject but predictable Plot
Review: I loved Angels and Demons- and I really enjoyed the subject matter in Da Vinci Code but if I could guess what was coming with the plot line it was obvious. I never try to figure out mysteries I enjoy letting them unfold in the read. I had this one figured out way too early for my enjoyment. Still a good book- hard to put down but not nearly as fantastic as previous works. I learned a lot and will probably purchase a number of nonfiction works in this subject area.

I had to go on line and look up the art works that were described in the text and found that some of the pieces are easily mistaken (Madonna on the rocks and Virgin on the Rocks ) Some were even misnamed at a university site (astron.berkeley.edu/~kalas/disksite/ pages/madonna.html) should be Virgin on the rocks not Madonna- since this is the revised toned down image.

Well worth the effort- wait for paperback

Summary: Big publisher hype . . . disappointing
Review: I loved Brown's last book, DECEPTION POINT, and very much looked forward to reading THE DA VINCI CODE. Alas, this is one of the biggest disappointments I've suffered through in years. I agree with other reviewers about the many plot implausibilities. The prose throughout a lot of the book is stilted and wooden. The characters are all cardboard cutouts who serve as mouthpieces for Brown's (some say others') research. Protagonist Robert Langdon has zero personality, as does each of his supporting cast. Langdon returns from ANGELS & DEMONS, a book I enjoyed, though it too, was marred by several huge implausibilities (Langdon jumps out of a helicopter from several thousand feet up, clutching only a tarp as a makeshift parachute, and survives his fall into the Tiber River, virtually unscathed). THE DA VINCI CODE is burdened with many similar groaners.

Previous to this book, Dan Brown couldn't give his first three books away (even though they were all quality). Then he signs a big contract with mega-publisher Doubleday, who props him up with a gadzillion-dollar promotional campaign, and touts THE DA VINCI CODE as the thriller to beat all thrillers. Of course, the sheep buy into the hype and flock to the bookstores to purchase this mediocre effort. I'm afraid P.T. Barnum was right about a sucker being born every minute. Dan Brown is capable of much better. He's proved it in the past.

One star for an intriguing plot and comprehensive research, zero stars due to the less-than-stellar writing and lack of character development. The guy I feel sorry for is author Lewis Perdue, who has written similarly themed novels and yet still labors in relative obscurity (Perdue even authored a novel in 1983 titled THE DA VINCI LEGACY. Hmmmm . . .).

Summary: Da Vinci Code was fantastic
Review: I loved Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. It was such a compelling story and the book was hard to put down.
I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good read.

Summary: Couldn't put the book down!
Review: I loved every minute of the book. It combined fact, theory, and fiction masterfully. For those of you who happen to be fundamental Christians, do yourselves a favor and do not read this book, you will probably be offended by its controversial content. For everyone else out there, it's an exciting book that brings into light other theories that do exist and have been documented about Christ and the bible intertwined with a fictional murder mystery. Summary: Funny Reading the Reviews....Either LOVE IT or HATE IT....
Review: I loved the book....was trying to analyze why I enjoyed it so much....

It captured me from the very beginning, part of the appeal due to the familiarity of the setting and my interest in art, I suppose. It was so easy to envision the whole thing. I felt like I witnessed the murder and then was right there with Robert & Sophie trying to escape from the Louvre and elude the police. I enjoyed the entire chase, was fascinated by the emerging theories throughout. I have to admit, at times I was a tiny bit uncomfortable with some of the ideas he was suggesting, but in the end I was neither offended nor were any core beliefs altered! : ) Just a great ride, if you ask me!

Summary: The Truth Revealed
Review: I loved the Da Vinci Code. Any truly serious biblical scholar has to accept many a premiss put forth therein. If you have read 'New Testament Revelations of Jesus of Nazareth' and/or 'What Happens After You Die' (two books which contain many of the messages received by James Padgett between 1914 and 1923 via automatic writings from Jesus and other Celestial and historical characters,) you will be very at home much of what is written in the Da Vinci Code. The debunking of the Trinity, the Virgin Birth, and Jesus as God was all revealed to James Padgett over 75 years ago by those who were there. Mary Magdalene wrote as did Mary the Mother of Jesus. Jesus himself wrote Padgett of his true mission on earth. As a Christian minister I can happily recommend all the above.

Summary: Ultimately disappointing thriller
Review: I loved the first third of this book, with its intricate twists and fascinating look at art and the Louvre and Paris and the depth of research into the history of the Catholic Church. But then it just started getting to be too much; too many details, too many symbols, too many cliffhangers until I found myself exhausted by it all, yet still racing through it just to see how it would be resolved - but it really wasn't worth the race.
The curator of the Louvre is found murdered in a locked room, so to speak - and in a macabre start, leaves clues drawn in his own blood, including the name Robert Langdon. Langdon is a professor from Harvard visiting Paris to give a lecture on religious symbolism, and coincidentally had an appointment with the murder victim, who of course failed to show. The victim's granddaughter, Sophie Neveu, is a cryptographer with the Paris equivalent of the F.B.I. but the two of them become the chief suspects in the murder. Their only hope is to solve it themselves, but with the cops hot on their tail they have to stay one step ahead as they race their way through France, then England, in this complex yet ultimately disappointing thriller.

Summary: Great Story But......
Review: I loved the premise of the book. Secret soieties, clues hidden in world famous paintings, and some of the best-kept secrets of the world. This book is absolutely phenomenal and I would recommend it to all my friends. It is no wonder that it has stayed on the bestseller list.

The only thing that I can find at fault with this book is the ending. It leaves the reader with the sense of, "Wait, what just happened?"

Other than that, I think this book is one of the best books of its time.
