Rating: Summary: A Unique Piece of Literature Review: I guess if you have to compare it, the most natural choice of comparison for THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN is either TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE due to the author or A CHRISTMAS CAROL due to the flashback of a life lived. However I feel it far more just to judge THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN for what it is...a self contained book. It is not a sequel or a retelling. It is a unique piece of literature and one I enjoyed much to the same great extent as SECRET LIFE OF BEES, MY FRACTURED LIFE, LIFE OF PI, and BROKEN MUSIC.
Rating: Summary: not as good as Tuesdays with Morrie Review: It was just a disappointment after Tuesdays With Morrie. The book was ok, but a bit reminiscent of A Christmas Carol and Its a Wonderful Life.
Rating: Summary: Much better than Tuesdays With Morie! Review: I read this book one Sat morning at my sister's house and couldn't put it down. It took me three hours, and although I was getting hungry for lunch, I couldn't put it down. It was awesome! I cried and smiled through the book! How many people do you meet in this world who are bitter about their life and their purpose? This book helps you believe everyone has a purpose on this planet... even those who think their life isn't worth anything... even those who think their life could have been different. I bought and recommended this book to everyone I know. Mitch Albom did such a wonderful job bringing you from the present to the past to the future. All I can say was it was awesome and a wonderful read. Keep the tissue box nearby!
Rating: Summary: Very Interesting Review: I was thought THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN was very interesting. The writing was not flowery and the story was very straightforward. The simple "voice" was convincing and had an enjoyable essence. The interweaving of characters was nicely done and reminded me of classic stories such as IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.
Rating: Summary: Not too bad... Review: I would have to say that this novel was pretty good overall. I think that I expected a little more plotwise than it delivered. The writing style definitely kept my attention which made it read very well. At no point did the book drag on and on as some do. Albom uses great description and paints a wonderful picture of the books main character, Eddie. This is the first one of Albom's book sthat I have read but I have to admit that it did leave me with a warm, fuzzy feeling. I would recommend this to a friend. It was sort of like It's A WOnderful Life pacled into a 200 page small book.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: I received this for Christmas and once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. I read it all in one sitting.
Rating: Summary: what a thought provoking book! Review: This story could be about any of us with just a little substitution of each of our life's story. This is about an 83 year old man who dies trying to save a little girl's life. Instead of going directly to heaven he meets five people who, through some connection to each other, have made a difference and have been influencial in how their lives developed. He thought his life was meaningless and yet was shown that he indeed was right where he should have been and that he had indeed been an important and needed person. Sometimes we all feel that we are not important and yet, unknown to us, there are many in this world we have touched and those who have touched and influenced us unknowingly. It is always hoped that it will be a positive and good influence. The book will touch your heart and give you faith in your place on earth. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Take an evening and read this book! Review: I received this book for Christmas and after all the gifts were opened and the kids busy I settled in and got reading. Well I couldn't put it down until I finished it!I passed it on to my mother and my husband immediately. I couldn't wait for someone else to read it and discuss the issues it arose. It had given me much thought of the people I had come across in my life. Those who I may have briefly known and those who stayed around longer. You never know how something is going to turn out. I found this book kept me going and wanting to know who his next person was and never being able to anticipate who the next one would be. I felt for a sports column writer, I was blown away and touched with this book and that he had been given a gift from above to send a message to us still here. Happy reading!
Rating: Summary: The World is Full of Stories, But the Stories are All One Review: The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom begins with the last hour of the life of a man named Eddie-strange, but fresh and intriguing to begin a story with an end. When Eddie dies he goes to heaven where he meets five important people that either impacted him or were impacted by him while he was alive. The five people are there to teach him some kind of lesson and explain why some experiences happened during his lifetime. This book explores events in Eddie's life that are similar to many peoples today-a neglecting father, illness and death of loved ones, fighting in the war, depression-and I think that his emotions are easily portrayed because of that. This book was very well written because it ventured into areas that are not touched often. The afterlife is an unknown and curious thing that almost every human being wonders about some time or another, and this book reveals one of those versions never to have been suggested before. It says that no matter what happens to us, everything affects someone else and all of our experiences are connected together-"The world is full of stories, but the stories are all one," says Albom.
Rating: Summary: So Refreshing Review: This book is awesome! It was a nice break from the normal fiction. However, it is so believable or you want to believe. I felt sorry for the character Eddie though. He did not have any self esteem and thought his life was useless. I instantly liked the stories of each of the person who he met the first time and what his role played in Eddie's life. Until the next person then I liked them the best...until the next one...until the next one...I highly recommend this book for anyone that has a question about the purpose of their life on earth and what hopefully will be a change in their outlook on the now and later.
