Rating: Summary: What is heaven like ? Review: The 5 People is a wonderful book, but so many people just focus on their own lessons they learned, which makes for an interesting story, but I am always looking for more - how does this apply to me? Do I have to have an NDE and come back, so I can tell others what heaven is about? I liked Tiffany Snow's book better, she had an NDE, and goes on to tell about the ripple effect of our actions. I'm not saying The 5 People is a bad book, really, but I guess I was just expecting more than a fairy tale.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT BOOK! Review: The Five People You Meet In Heaven is a wonderfully colorful tale. The story of Eddie was emotional, and well written. The author kept you going throughout, always wondering what would happen to sorrowful character next. What little clue about himself would he learn, and he would teach it? Albom did a really great job with this book! READ IT!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: What a great book! I read it all in a day, and I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: Mitch Does it again! Review: After the release of the book, I heard him speak about it at the Texas book Festival. This book lived up to Everything i thought it would be. Dont go in thinking it will be another Tuesdays with Morrie, its not. Mitch shows another side.
Rating: Summary: Maybe I'm not spiritual Review: This book is a nice little book, I guess . After reading it, I just do not understand how it is so popular. One of the customer reviewers even used the term, life changing. It certainly isn't heavy in insights. I suspect those who are moved by the book are very easily moved by simple little books. I agree with the reviewer who said a reader's time can be better spent on many other books.
Rating: Summary: There are better ways to spend your time. Review: The book is a simple little parable. It's neither very good nor very bad. It just doesn't really do much at all. With so much to learn and read about in this world and so little time to do it in, there are better books to put on your list.
Rating: Summary: Thought Provoking and Compelling Review: I must say I had been intrigured by this book when I heard about it. I bought it yesterday and could not put it down. It is an incredible story of spirituality and forgiveness. I highly recommend it to everyone.
Rating: Summary: In The Spirit In Which It Was Written Review: This is a lovely book if you take it in the spirit in which it was written--religion/philosophy/spirituality lite. What it lacks in literary depth it makes up for in simple, honest, emotional resonance. An easy book to make fun of, and the marketing and hype will turn off NY/LA/SF cognoscenti types, but for everyone without a PhD. a highly enjoyable read. My other pick for an uplifting book is "I Sleep At Red Lights: A True Story of Life After Triplets," by Bruce Stockler, a wonderful, wise and witty book about the definition of manhood--juggling career, marriage & kids--that deserves to be more widely recognized.
Rating: Summary: Compelling Parable about Our Connections to One Another Review: The title and book concept have intrigued me since I first heard about the book. I don't know any religions that describe the experience in Heaven as beginning by meeting five people from your past life, so I took the book to be a parable rather than a literal attempt to describe Heavenly life. I was quite pleased (for the most part) with what I found. I recommend this book to anyone who will not feel like their religion is being cast in doubt by the book's premise. Many self-help gurus encourage us to imagine our funeral service and what would be said about us. I think there's a lot of merit to that concept. Mr. Albom has added another important element to that concept: What were the unintended effects that others had on our lives and we on theirs? Cast in that light, even the most mundane life is suddenly filled with drama and greater significance. I hope Mr. Albom will consider writing a self-help book that allows us to think through the lessons of this book for our own lives. To describe what happens in Heaven in the book would be to spoil the book for you . . . so I won't. I found the book constantly surprising and interesting, and a quick read. One of the underlying themes of the book is the need to be more accepting of one another . . . and the consequences of our actions. In that regard, I thought the story was weak only in developing the resolution of his relationship with one of his parents. Other than that flaw, I would have enthusiastically graded the book at five stars. Let me quote the book's intriguing opening paragraph to give you a flavor of why you may want to read this book: "This is a story about a man named Eddie and it begins at the end, with Eddie dying in the sun. It might seem strange to start a story with an ending. But all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time." I think that's the best opening for a book that I have read in many years. Much of the rest of the writing is just as good. As I finished the book, I began to think about how my "failures" may have actually helped others to "successes." That was a new thought for me, and one that will make me act quite differently in the future. That was a great gift to receive from reading a single story.
Rating: Summary: I am a change person from this book. Review: This is a life changing experience. I listened on audio tape. Its was so intense and it kept me thinking throughout my whole day. I am going to change my attitude. They say we encounter angels on earth but. Really we are the angels ourselves. Just like a wonderful life. We do not realize how much we touch other lives.
